The future of masking -- will it ever end?
farang9392 replied to ultramarine's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
A cheaper pleasure is buying a covid test in 7/11, of course demasked, they literally start trembling processing your order, well worth the 25baht... Don't worry, it's not wasted, there's a charity bin nearby and they go in that, high demand amongst the fearing. Doing my bit for charity ???????? -
The future of masking -- will it ever end?

Have definitely seen this, there was some real farang little mask policers back in the day, worse grassing people up to condo staff, less worse passive aggressive offering masks, some boasting about it like some scout honour, and acting like they worked for the WHO, now they are like hey man I always thought it was stupid and pointless, I just did it for pollution or old people or 20000baht is a lot, good to see the thai smile again blah blah blah. Yeah mate, jog on, your name is marked, everyone knows, considered moving condo? ???? -
The future of masking -- will it ever end?

Not this non-sense again. Pre-covid masking was always less than 2% even on the polluted seasons. I'm sure in a large enough sample size you'll find one or two people masking even in the West. Don't phrase it as if it was common. -
The future of masking -- will it ever end?

Sometimes in Bangkok it's like a black hole that time travels you back to 2021. Definitely dropping though, slowly, many are understandably struggling to let go after being brain washed in over the top fear for so long, and the fear news even continues today in Thailand... But i think witnessing some of their own peers demask, and increased travel internationally, is prompting some of more critical thinking ones to question their own all day, every day, always masking routines. Kind of like when the Chinese watched the world cup and nearly fainted - wtf transparent masks? wait... wait no masks? no masks? what is this sourcery? why aren't they dying in the street? it was a big seed in the protests over there, although they were quick to censor the demasked stands ???? I thought thailands coverage of the world cup was going to do the same -
Thai Baht to Malaysian Ringgits
farang9392 replied to ChrisKC's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
At both KL and Penang there is a row of ATMs in arrivals. They have always taken Kasikorn and Bangkok bank so I presume SCB no difference. It's been a while but last visit something something islam bank did reject Thai cards but the blue machine next to it took it, I think there was someone at the CIMB machine. They dont have a monopoly encouraging regulator like Thailand so different machines have different prices or free nothing like Thailand though even in worst case scenario except .... The only one that was near Thai robbing price was HSBC -
Thai Baht to Malaysian Ringgits

Use your bank card at CIMB bank, there was either no charge or it was so little that it wasn't a concern - not the 220baht thai thieving banks charge. If you do have any cash left over sell in Malaysia, it will be a better rate than doing the conversion back here. -
Line them up, throw them off a cliff... I have about as much empathy for these predators as I do for those advocating for masking kids in 2023. 0. You can be gay or take a letter of the alphabet beyond LGBT that I don't know what it means without wikipedia, but you're not going into school to confuse kids, especially when some of this is aimed at single digit ages..

Had problems with eBay, fake football shirt, didnt get anywhere with it other than seller refunded if withdraw complaint, the account continued trading for another 6 months with around 50 positive reviews a day then one day suspended.. I followed it as at this point I was just interested to the point of hoping on a flight to Tunisia and doing the same thing myself, I didn't but man so easy.. He must of made a killing in meantime, a lot of consumers are too stupid to notice

Yeah like S0ny offical and P@nasonic Direct 3431 etc.. I know real-time moderation is hard but they seem to deliberately turn a blind eye to everything. People give Amazon a bad rep but it's a million times safer than these platforms A lot of dodgy ones try to move stuff off platform quickly, line ID as a watermark always a good sign leading to COD off platform etc..
-
The platform is going south quickly. Not as extreme as the above, but variations. I want to buy a utility knife, but I cant do any price comparisons, because the first variant is replacement blades, or in one example a plastic f'ing cap for a utility knife. I'll just buy from global house going forward I think. Then I see a vacuum that I can use with the sander, 800baht, but the variant is actually replacement bags. They could police this easily but choose not to. Can still get some good deals on the big ticket items from official stores, but small items under a 1000baht probably easier and cheaper to buy it when out shopping, anything under a 100baht you'll probably find in your local 20baht shop or Mr.DIY for a cheaper price

Yep had the same thing happen to me when I was carrying an old Thinkpad, it had value to me but little value to anyone else thus checkin, I got escorted to where all the luggage was being processed, it's like backstage tour, damn cool, and then out under the plane bridges, up some steps and back into the terminal. Wont get anyway with batteries in luggage
-
Do you get something to show that you can print off other than a screenshot saying Approved? I think I will need prove of my 90 day report when applying for my extension, first hurdle at the ticket machine guarded by document check person, and then at the actual counter. I'm thinking if I just go in person and get the stamped half a4 piece of paper like last time to be safe? or is it a no concern?

Thai banks are becoming more modern, I would say they are around 1990 era right now. Many moons ago you had to go the same branch to update any details, get paper statements for immigration, request new card etc.. but recently I've been shocked that Bangkok bank can print and stamp statements - at a charge mind you - from a branch that wasn't the one I opened at account at. I was also pleasantly surprised that K Bank allowed me to change my contact details at a branch that wasn't the original one too. And the icing on the cake I managed to do something over the phone without "go to branch sir" ... Truely modern times.. It looks like you can even order a new debit card on the KBank app too? ???? Other than the 15 baht fee its probably not necessary to transfer banks nowadays

This is probably the best approach, it's not the worth the hassle on something this dated to deal with the implicit warranty for what will likely be around 3,000baht all in, is there a kid in the area that can benefit if you lump it with an old LCD screen that you might have lying around? or HDF mercy center perhaps - but check if they are accepting PCs..
-
You don't have much going here, resale values on PC is terrible and rightly so given a price of new with warranty, a home assembled white box PC with 8th gen processor you'll probably be able to get 1500-3000baht, it's pretty ancient. However if the Windows license really is genuine, not your $5-$10 keys from aliexpress, lazada, shopee, ebay that claim to be OEM genuine, you may be able to get closer to 4000baht - almost exactly what you paid for the license - as the license should be transferrable. If it's small and quite, and not some loud monster that home assembled PCs often are, coupled with a real license, for a media center maybe some expat will pay 4500baht. I can't see you getting anything more than 5000baht for it in any scenario unless you find a mug.

I can't see how this is a practical expectation - just shifting the trust, what if the shoe is on the other foot? whats the advice for a seller? If I'm seller than I'm reluctant to hand over the chanote and blue book until I've got the cash or banks draft in my hand firmly, old Somchai ain't nipping to the car to get the draft or doing something shifty with the docs. I'm reminded of those that talk about COD and inspecting the product thoroughly before handing over the cash, as if the Shopee guy is going to allow you to rip open the outer box, break open the packaging and plug in your new Samsung S30 phone and boot it up to ensure its not some fake brick.. i wonder if they just spout this without having actually tried it.. I'm not saying it's not a good idea but if I'm on the other side then Id be focusing on covering my own a... and won't be taking all the risk. Ideally I'd be hoping the land office does the escrow somehow
-
That's terrible. How did it happen? If I had a lump sum and was going for new property I think I'd be tempted to still use a bank mortgage, let them and their processing agent handle a lot of formalities at the land office, and if it goes belly up - somehow they manage to pull one on the bank then you're potentially out of your downpayment, better than losing it all. Of course there are early repayment fees in the first few years to consider, valuation fee, and sometimes a mortgage fee, and you'd have to consider how you can deploy your capital elsewhere to partially offset the interest rate payments.

I'm confused. You bought this AC deal from an electronic/appliance store then why would the subbie buy the unit from a big box store? And if he did the freebies he did or didn't get don't matter, it's only what the store you bought it from agreed that matters. On the promo stuff, it does change daily for some big box store, but I imagine installation is rather consistent, other stuff varies if it isnt included by default - one day you don't even get 6 free dishwasher tablets with a Bosch, other days you get a free mop, 4hr delivery and install within bangkok and whopping 12 tablets.. and a treasure map to find more tablets that cost less than gold..
-
The big box stores often subcontractor the free install, even if they call your misses to tell her they are predictably late with name of the store, and arrive with the store t-shirt, it's the same for other home services we've noticed such as curtain install, they could be working for a few companies etc.. Think of it like Grab or Uber. I'd had them install aircon few times over the years in rentals where I wanted to make use of a non air-con room, usually the cheapest, used to get small units for as little as 8k installed back in the day on promo so just write it off when move, but theres always been at least 500-1000baht for something or other, paid in cash. It's good to see now they publish price lists so you know if you're being screwed. It was for the unpredictable added charges this time round, that we avoided the big box stores for our aircon as I wanted to be more precise with positioning and expected these charges to accumulate quickly, and opted for the builder to arrange in lieu of a discount - no extras to be paid - tell them where and how you wanted, the builder arranged an independent expert with his own big van and team of subexperts... and what a disaster, drilling into wrong places, missing vibration pads, endless missed appointments, not calling to say they weren't coming to 4.55pm, dust and rubble just tossed in the bin unwrapped, unnecessary blue pvc pipe for drainage on some, what he had left of white pipe on other, one unit giving out electric shocks.. I mention this as on another thread people were saying go with the independents, I didnt cross reference the telephone numbers listed but this wasn't a lone subbie, point being it's not always greener on the other side. Perhaps the high margins on the extras provide an incentive for big box free install subcontractor to do to a consistent quality. Also, at least with big box store they are usually scared of loosing the contract and you have a point of contact to reliable call and kick off, think I'll be using HomePro next. At the end of a HomePro install too you have the sign the ipad thing they have, can refuse if it's sub quality..

Fraudster nabbed after swindling millions in Bangkok investment scheme
farang9392 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
It shocks me how Thai people, of all adult ages, continue to fall for these too good to be true scams, visibility is high, and almost every day the comical thai news covers a scam and within a week at least every variant is covered, from the DHL scam to crypto to gold reselling to durian to police drug bust... It's not like the news is focused on world affairs, war, scientific breakthroughs, and so on, they get a warning, every single week and if they are consuming social media multiple times a day. -
Even a passport is optional I find, unless one of stricty stricty banks, if you no have and say you stay long way a way, they sigh, they tut, they do the act then they just do it. Just another less opportunity for identity fraud, your mileage may vary,,
