  1. No you cannot. But the sender can contact Customer Care and resend using your daughters name.
  2. If you transfer last years money, there is nothing to think about, it is regarded as savings and is free of all tax. It is only income earned from 1 January 2024 onwards that requires some thought. Your military is exempt to Thai tax by virtue of the DTA, regardless of which year it is earned. There is no space on the current Thai tax form to report exempt income. What I do is to not report my exempt income, you may wish to do the same with your military pension. That leaves your company pension and what you call, Government Pension, it's not clear to me if you mean State Pension or some other form of government pension, perhaps you can clarify? Feel free to PM me with the transfer amounts from last year but only your Government and Company Pensions and I'll do some sums and PM you back, later in the day. .
  3. Higher interest rates in countries such as the US, benefit savers more but impact the less wealthy less, because loan rates tend to be fixed. Plus, there is a greater percentage of wealthy people compared to poor ones. I think it's reasonable to presume that a 5% base rate in the US, has equal impact to a 2.5% base rate in Thailand, because the greater impact is felt by the larger section of the economy, which is poorer people.
  4. The thought in my mind is: Does the punishment fit the crime and is the response proportionate? If so, fine, if not, everyone needs to be very very careful.

  6. I can't imagine Somchai the hood money lender adjusting his loan rates, just because BOT shaved 0.25% off the base rate. But I agree, that's a bigger problem to be tackled than lending to SME's.
  7. "Banks make money every time you use a credit card". I'm shocked, mortified even! 🙂
  8. What debt? Is that the debt they don't have but suddenly did, because they debased their currency and the cost of oil imports broke the bank?
  9. The poster does not provide sufficient information for me or anyone else to give a full or exact answer. As poster UKResonant asks....are they UK pensions? Are they on the lists he provided and as such exempt? Plus in order to give a full and exact answer, we would need to know the precise amounts involved since this can vary the answer. As main contributor to this thread, I have an obligation not to mislead and to provide only factual answers, rather than guess or assume anything, and those things I have done. Lastly, let me be perfectly clear once again that this thread, the simple tax guide and our involvement in trying to help readers and answer their questions, where possible, is voluntary and does not represent professional tax advice. We are perfectly happy to try and help where ever we can but but we are less happy about being chastised because somebody thinks we should have done more research, watched a particular video or given a better answer!
  10. It's fun to bash but let's be fair and reasonable shall we! Credit card spending abroad by Thai's has been low by comparison to other countries but has grown year on year, today, the amount spent is sizeable. Previously, Thai banks were happy to make their money from credit cards, solely based on domestic usage hence the ability to use the cards overseas, free of charge, was a perk. But using the card overseas comes at a cost to the issuing bank, currency exchange, overseas levies and settlement costs, all come at a price. I'm surprised the Thai banks have waited this long before acting. https://www.ceicdata.com/en/thailand/credit-card-statistics/credit-card-spending-value-abroad-usage
  11. Untrue, companies are checked and audited, far more often than individuals because they are a major source of tax income.
  12. You have no clue what you are talking about! The Revenue Department is the same as the Inland Revenue or HMRC, it collects taxes on behalf of the government, it does not handle cash and cannot divert cash. The RD is also one of the friendliest departments to deal with and certainly the most professional. The most corrupt department is Customs.
  13. Yes, very common with UK and US banks
  14. Hate to sound like a broken record but you have to read the simple tax guide, it will answer all your questions....linked below: EVERYTHING earned before 1 January 2024 is free of Thai tax, just be certain you can prove it if asked later (statement etc). If your income in Scotland is taxed, you should not be taxed here, again, just make sure you can prove it was taxed, if asked later. You don't say how old you are, I'll assume you are under 65. That means your tax deductions here are 60k Personal Allowance but may be more if married, have children, buy Thai insurance etc. There is also a deduction for earned income which is equal to 50% of the income, to a maximum of 100k. IF your income in Thailand (assessible transfers made to Thailand that are not exempt) is more than ABOUT 210k Baht, you should file a tax return. There is no penalty for not filing is you don't owe tax but there are serious penalties for not filing if you do.
  15. Should be less, depending on the amounts, you may get away almost free of Thai tax because two out of three sound like they may be exempt.
  16. If you live here for less than 180 days per calendar year, you are not Thai tax resident so none of this affects you. There has not been any comment from Immigration regarding taxes and visa extensions, as of this moment in time, nothing has changed..

  18. I recall many years ago, Buriram airport was only open on certain days between certain hours, all the locals used to go there when a plane arrived and departed because it was a novel experience. Entertainment, life in the fast lane!
  19. As far as I can tell, having an airport is the new status symbol, almost every province seems to be trying to justify one, I count 39 so far! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_airports_in_Thailand
  20. This three year old thread has been closed because its contents are no longer relevant.
  21. One off topic post hidden and one helpful but no longer necessary post removed from view.
  22. Two baiting troll posts removed, don't go there again!
  23. Moved to business and banking forum
  24. Below are two links showing passenger traffic at Swampy and other AOT airports. The first link shows traffic by year and breaks out domestic, international and transit. The different AOT airport stats (there are 8 AOT airports) are on different tabs of each download. Swampy does generate a majority of the traffic but the volumes of international traffic at other AOT airports should not be under estimated. Similarly, the volumes of international passenger traffic at non-AOT owned airports should also not be underestimated. https://investor.airportthai.co.th/transport.html https://bangkokairport.net/statistics/
