  1. They are licensed and governed by BOT rules, it's near certain they do report.
  2. I understand, I also have rental income from overseas. I don't think the TRD is going to be too interested in how other countries interpret gross and net rent, they will have their own version that they will apply. I did the standard deduction math for my property rental income which comes out ever so slightly ahead of the actual costs, but that is likely to change year on year. It might well be, for the reasons you state, that claiming the standard deduction will avoid complicated debates and keep life simple, even if it means a small loss. Anything for a simple life.
  3. That is exactly what I have done, in years gone by and the TRD has been quite happy with the approach and has said nothing.
  4. Same old same old......yawn! I have zero interest in asking or answering any of your questions....get used to it, go find somebody else to argue with.
  5. There's a standard deduction option of 30% of gross income, to cover all rental income expenses.
  6. It may be helpful to know that the total thyroidectomy is a painless and easy affair, from a patient perspective. Even after waking up after surgery, there was no pain, no discomfort and swallowing was normal. The most arduous part was the constant blood tests every few hours, even through the night - my hospital stay was five days. The following six months or so can be interesting whilst trying to get the hormone replacement levels to the desired levels. The FT4 remains in the blood for six weeks, that means, blood test, adjustment to the Euthyrox replacement hormones and then more blood tests six weeks later....eventually you get there. Eventually everything settles down and normality returns.
  7. A post showing links to the TRD online tax filing system. Note: it is possible to file late for the past three years.
  8. Money changers are regulated by the BOT, the same as banks are. They no doubt have reporting requirements also.
  9. I'm pretty sure that Sheryl will confirm that the results of a biopsy is the only sound basis on which to discuss action with a surgeon.
  10. I think I mentioned before that my ultrasound was inconclusive so I had several biopsies, all of which were also inconclusive. I do not believe that an ultrasound alone can detect the existence of cancer in the thyroid although I'm happy to be corrected on this point, it was certainly never mentioned to me at the university hospital, hence the biopsies that followed. I believe the ultrasound can probably assess probabilities, and that's all. I ended up initially with a 28% probability of cancer, which subsequently turned out to be unfounded. Do not try and google medical answers on this, it's unhealthy and unreliable. And until the cancerous cells have been seen under a microscope, following a biopsy, your wife does not have cancer.
  11. Exactly how many DTA events have you invoked in Thailand....not Germany, not Europe, not Scandinavia....Thailand? How many reports exist, Big 4 or otherwise, regarding DTA's being invoked by foreigners in their Thai tax returns and where are they please? At this stage in the game, nobody understands how the TRD may handle DTA clauses that are invoked by foreigners, it could even be as simple as check and pass, nobody knows. And since nobody knows, there is no basis whatsoever for the earlier post that I criticised, ergo it is fear mongering and worst case scenario, nothing more.
  12. You either have a visa that is applied for in advance, or you have a visa exemption which means you get stamped in at the airport for 30 days (or whatever it is now). Do you have a visa?
  13. Wow, lots of comments from ex/current mongers who only know the entertainment areas. and from people who've never visited for a long time or for very long. We were in Bangkok last month, I used to visit often in the late 1990's and early 2000's, today's Bangkok is nothing like it was, not even a little bit similar. Getting around Bangkok is a breeze these days and even lots of fun, buy a day ticket and cruise the MRT/BTS and see everywhere in comfort. Catch the passenger ferry on the Chao Phraya and see Bangkok from the river, brilliant on a hot day. Shopping and super malls such as at Emisphere, Paragon, Centralworld and Icon, compete with the best anywhere in the world that I've seen in the past couple of decades. Twenty twenty five years ago Bangkok was a bit of a culinary desert, for those seeking international cuisine, today it exists in spades. The other stuff, nana, patpong and cowboy.....nah, they've had their day, relics of bygone age.
  14. Of course that's what it means, the measurement was passenger trips, not the number of tourists!
  15. I fail to see the basis for this continued fear mongering which is little more than opinion. It has no basis in fact, other than third hand opinion from two anonymous and unidentified tax accountants and subjective opinion that, things will it, "will not be a simple matter". There are no current first hand reports from anyone who tried to utilise a DTA option; there is no report from Big 4 or even small 4 accountancies regarding the complexity involved; there is no new information from the TRD regarding this process. All we have a personal subjective opinion from somebody who was the target of a services selling exercise and who is now concerned at the costs involved. My recommendation is that everyone bide their time, quietly and patiently and ignore the rumours and scaremongering. In the fullness of time, either first hand reports will emerge or pertinent information will be announced.

  17. The first year my wife filed a return for her business (self employed), the lady in the local Tessabhan TRD office fiddled things to where she didn't have to pay tax....the woman lives in the community. When she came home and told me I made her go to the District office and file a corrected return and she paid about 10k in tax. The District Office made all kinds of excuses about the woman in the Tessabahn office not understanding something or other (like her entire job). Just before we left, the officer said we may get a call from the Regional office to ask what we were doing and why, a call that never came. Now, my wife understand the tax system and knows to file correctly.
  18. I continue to think those questions are banking related KYC and AMLO related, they are NOT typical questions a money transfer company should ask, in my experience. If me, I would check with WISE directly on this point to confirm or otherwise.
  19. I already wrote that the FM is very highly regarded investment manager who heads the F&C UT. He's also head of asset allocation for Columbia Threadneedle. I don't know the answer, that's why I posted here. You don't know the answer either and just want to guess. Go troll somebody else!
  20. Nonsense! 0.29% for a managed fund is very cheap. I take it you didn't look inside the fund or that you don't know.
