  1. Changing history to suit your personal narrative doesn't make it fact. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/id-rather-be-a-billionaire-and-not-be-loved-by-everybody-charlie-munger-shrugs-off-controversy-over-200m-donation-for-nearly-windowless-dorm-11635547043
  2. Forget the money, look at the achievements of the man, they are remarkable. He was told he would lose his sight so he learned brail beforehand and began to use brail as his means of communication, even though he could still see. Despite having vast wealth, he gave 98% of it away to schools, universities and charities he supported yet you see that as not contributing to society, really! As a wise old sage, for younger people wanting to learn something from others, you could do a lot worse than to read the quotes of Charlie Munger, they are priceless.
  3. Here ya go Mr Sad Emoji, Loy Krathong lanterns it is, locals and tourists to blame https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40033278
  4. Mid bonk, knock, knock, passport please.
  5. You know that how? Most likely this will have been caused by one of three things, electrical wiring, a Loy Krathong lantern or Chinese lightening., at 3 am there wouldn't have been that many people there to start a fire, if any at all.
  6. Charlie was a brilliant mind, a lawyer first and an investor second, some of his quips and quotes at Berkshire AGM's are pure gold. RIP Charlie
  7. I can only explain it to you, I can't understand it for you. We're done here. Byee.
  8. Assuming other DTA rules don't apply. yes. If the money is already tax paid and there is a DTA, maybe not. This type of offshore income is exactly what the new tax law is designed to capture.
  9. Allowing a Thai real estate agent to select a lawyer and to give that person a POA and handle the sales proceeds sounds like very very very high risk to me. I personally know of one person who allowed a Thai lawyer to act on his behalf and after nine years discovered the property he had purchased through the lawyer, was registered in the lawyers name.
  10. Leaving after 179 days and then returning, has a cost that is not small. I think they only need to sit back and wait let the fear factor go to work as people begin to file tax returns. Then, as time and willpower allows, begin to chase down some of the bigger fish, at their own leisure. The fact that retired pensioner Henry from Sidcup didn't file a return, so what! Many posters are talking up a good story about leaving and throwing temper tantrums but at some point they will begin to weigh the effort and cost of filing a return and begrudgingly will do so. Within nine months, this will be a none issues.
  11. Thai law is based on, I'll say that again, based on UK civil law but that basing does not require it to adopt all the facilities of UK or any other country's format for law. For example, the system of precedent does not have to apply here, just because it applies in some other countries. Also, the crown is able to enact new laws here which is not something that the crown would do in say the UK. Read this and then come back to me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Thailand#:~:text=The laws of Thailand are,see also world legal systems).
  12. Semantics and word games, there is a near universal definition of what is a Tax Resident which has no bearing or relationship on or with Immigration status or lack of..
  13. Some people, even ones from wealthy western countries, don't even have the aptitude to express themselves using the written word and are forced to rely on emojis and other pictures, the inhumanity of it all.
  14. And yet another. A sport physiotherapist who branched into diet and wrote books that he now promotes by saying things that will promote his book sales. THIS IS NOT MEDICNE, chumps.
  15. Keep the long row of shops on your right and head underneath the building at the very end, you can't miss it.
  16. Exactly why the general public should be reading research papers in order to conclude whether a product such as statins are suitable or not, escapes me. OK, if you have interest in such things and it's a hobby or you worked in a related field, fine. But most people wouldn't be able to disseminate fact from assumption or be able to grade such things in order to make a useful decision. This is not a hole in a bathroom wall and a video about how to patch it. This is a subject that required millions of days academic qualification and research, trials, tests, peer reviews, etc etc etc, the general public is deluded to think they might be even a little bit equipped to decide or judge these things.
  17. You can't stay on topic, instead you want to make me the topic of debate, I'm not playing, now you're forever gone from my view....Byee.
  18. Useful confirmation that all land border crossings have online access to the Immi databases, which means the reason for the visitors entry/exit is known. This in turn means that the TAT international tourists figures almost certainly do not include day traders and are reliable.
  19. The content in this case is from someone who may or may not be medically qualified but appears to be a medical blogger who has cherry picked articles and extracts to make their argument which may or may not be supportable, we'll never know. And therein lies the problem. We're being asked to believe what he says yet how can we when his reference is bits and pieces of articles and studies, cobbled together to make the case that supports his belief. That is not medical science at its best and if you want to convince the public of something to do with their health, it needs to be.
  20. I rate your last comment as being of major concern, you have no control over the selection of doctor who performs the procedure which may be an intern.
  21. My Thai language abilities are irrelevant, I'm not teaching a class full of ten year olds a language and pretending to be qualified.
  22. If I was hiring for a school I might do the same. The Asian option would be cheaper, less visa hassle and would assimilate more easily, probably less trouble too.
  23. Our neighbour is an English teacher in a Thai school teaching under eleven year olds, she can't come even close to making a sentence or begin to have a conversation with me. Very disappointing.
