  1. Picture courtesy of Phuketinsta. On April 1st, Patong Police conducted an operation targeting illegal employment practices in the area, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. The operation, led by Colonel Chalermchai Hearnsawat, focused on a construction site located at 162/37 Phra Metta Road, Patong. Authorities detained one Thai national on charges of illegally employing foreign workers, along with six Chinese nationals who were allegedly working without valid permits. The arrested individuals were taken into custody and transferred to Patong Police Station, where they will face further legal proceedings. Officials have not yet disclosed whether additional charges will be filed against those involved. This incident comes amid shifting trends in Phuket’s labour market. Previously Burmese workers have been seen securing official employment, while Chinese labourers are now increasingly being found working without proper documentation. The arrests raise questions about the patterns of illegal employment in the region. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on unauthorised employment and ensuring that both employers and workers comply with Thai labour regulations. Further investigations are expected to determine the full extent of the violations at other sites. -- 2025-04-03

  3. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A Vietnamese street vendor was tragically killed when his motorbike was struck by a car on an overpass in Ayutthaya. The devastating incident occurred just two days after his wife gave birth to their child in Vietnam. The crash took place at approximately 01:30 on 2 April, on the Ayutthaya overpass, heading towards Wang Noi district. Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a damaged black Honda Jazz with its front end crushed, and a Honda Wave motorbike, modified for selling grilled squid, lying wrecked nearby. The vendor’s equipment and supplies were scattered across the road. Underneath the car, officers discovered the lifeless body of Mr. Thinh Vientheng, 39, a Vietnamese national. His injuries were extensive, with severe wounds to his face and head, as well as multiple broken limbs. The driver of the car, a young woman, told police that she had been driving home from central Ayutthaya to Wang Noi when she suddenly collided with the motorbike. She claimed she did not see anything before the crash occurred. Upon hearing the news, the victim’s Vietnamese friends rushed to the scene, overcome with grief. Some collapsed in tears, devastated by the loss. They explained that Mr. Thinh had been selling grilled squid from his motorbike to support his wife and newborn child, who had just returned to Vietnam to give birth. Following the crash, police gathered evidence and took the car driver in for questioning. Authorities have also contacted Thai immigration and the Vietnamese embassy to notify the victim’s family. His body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Pathum Thani for an autopsy, as officials proceed with legal investigations into the case. -- 2025-04-03

A shocking family tragedy unfolded in the district of Chian Yai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, as a man suffering from a psychiatric disorder killed his parents and younger brother in their home before being apprehended by police. The attack, which occurred at around 10:30 on 2 April, saw the suspect wielding a machete and an oil palm-cutting tool to fatally wound his family members. Neighbours, alarmed by the commotion, immediately alerted the authorities. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the suspect still inside the house, armed and refusing to surrender. Officers quickly cordoned off the area and attempted to negotiate with him. The standoff lasted for some time as officials sought to defuse the situation without further violence. Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody. Identified only by his nickname, Mr. Thok, he is believed to be 35 years old. Initial reports suggest he had a history of psychiatric illness and had previously undergone treatment in hospital, though his condition had not fully stabilised. 7. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A collision between an 18-wheeler lorry and a 10-wheeler truck on the Kanchanaphisek Expressway early morning on 2 April, resulted in one fatality, one injury, and traffic congestion stretching over 10 kilometres. The crash occurred on the bridge crossing the Chao Phraya River in Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan, causing major disruption. Police and emergency responders from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation and the Expressway Rescue Unit were called to the scene at around 05:20. The crash involved an 18-wheeler transporting bottles, which had struck the rear of a 10-wheeler carrying soybean meal. The impact severely damaged the front of the 18-wheeler, leaving its driver, Mr. Chatchai 53, trapped inside the wreckage. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting tools to extract his body, which was found with severe headand facial injuries. The 10-wheeler truck suffered heavy rear-end damage, and its cargo of soybean meal spilled across the road, further worsening traffic conditions. The driver of the 10-wheeler sustained injuries, complaining of chest pain and neck discomfort, and was taken to Bangpakok 3 Hospital for treatment. A colleague of the deceased, who arrived at the scene, revealed that Mr. Chatchai was employed as a lorry driver in Chachoengsao province. He had just delivered a load of bottles to Nakhon Pathom and was on his way back to his depot when the crash occurred. His family has been notified of his death. The crash caused a massive traffic backlog, with congestion extending more than 10 kilometres. Authorities worked to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow. Investigators from Phra Pradaeng Police Station have not yet identified any eyewitnesses but suspect that the 18-wheeler was travelling at high speed in the left lane when it rear-ended the slower-moving 10-wheeler as it ascended the bridge. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the expressway to determine the exact cause of the collision. -- 2025-04-03

  9. Picture courtesy of CIB. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the Marine Police Division, successfully rescued a fisherman who had been stranded at sea after suffering an injury while fishing. At approximately 15:30 on 1 April, officers from the Narathiwat Marine Police Unit (S. Ron. 3, K.K. 7, B.K. Ron.) received an emergency call from Mr. Mayuki, 32, who reported that he had gone fishing by boat the previous day, using a net off the coast of Koh Kien Beach in Mueang District, Narathiwat. While retrieving his net, he was pricked by a fish spine, causing severe pain and loss of consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness the next morning, Mr. Mayuki found that his boat had drifted so far from shore that land was no longer visible. Despite his efforts to paddle back, he became exhausted. Later that afternoon, at around 15:30, his mobile phone regained signal, allowing him to call for help. He reported feeling dizzy and weak due to a lack of food and water. Marine Police immediately launched a rescue mission. By 17:00 they located a small blue fibreglass boat, approximately three metres long, floating in the sea. Officers safely retrieved Mr. Mayuki and brought him back to shore. The operation was carried out under the direction of Lieutenant General Jiraphop Phuridet, Commissioner of the CIB, and Major General Setthasiri Nipphaya, Commander of the Marine Police Division. The rescue team was led by Police Captain Burachat Liamchat, along with Police Sergeant Major Surasak Jandaeng and officers from the Narathiwat Marine Police Unit, in cooperation with the Provincial Maritime Enforcement Command Centre (SMCC) Narathiwat and the Metta Tham Rescue Unit. Authorities reminded the public to take safety precautions while at sea and to ensure they have reliable means of communication in case of emergencies. -- 2025-04-03

  11. Pictures from responders. A devastating fire broke out late night on the 1 April, at the Thawee Charoen Superstore (Maharaj branch) in Chanthaburi province, completely engulfing the building in flames. Emergency services were alerted at around 23:30 prompting an immediate response from the Chanthaburi Municipality’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department. Firefighting units from nearby areas were also called in to assist. Initial reports indicate that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit at a streetlight in front of the store. Sparks from the electrical fault ignited overhead wiring, causing melting plastic to drip onto a plastic waste bin below. The flames quickly spread to the store’s main structure, intensifying rapidly. Despite the ferocity of the blaze, there were no casualties. At the time of the incident, the store owner, Surachai Kaewthong, commonly known as “Hia Ping”, was inside with his wife, five children, and more than ten migrant workers. Fortunately, they managed to escape unharmed. Multiple fire engines were deployed to tackle the fire, with firefighters battling the inferno for more than six hours before bringing it under control. Due to lingering heat and thick smoke inside the collapsed structure, additional water was sprayed to prevent any resurgence of flames. By the morning of 2 April, authorities arrived to assess the damage and determine the precise cause of the fire. Police Colonel Arkhaphong Sunthornwipat, Deputy Commander of Chanthaburi Provincial Police, led the investigation alongside district officials and forensic specialists. Meanwhile, Chanthaburi Governor Kittipong Kitikhun and Provincial Police Commander Major General Phadungsak Raksasuk have ordered a thorough inspection of the incident and its aftermath. Although an electrical short circuit is suspected to be the primary cause, forensic teams are conducting a detailed investigation to confirm the findings and evaluate the full extent of the damage. -- 2025-04-03

  13. Picture from responders. A motorbike rider was killed and his passenger seriously injured after a high-speed collision with a pickup truck at a traffic light junction in Bang Lamung, Chonburi late night, on 1 April. At 23:30, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre received reports of a crash at the junction, near the Cholchan Resort. Rescue teams, along with investigating officers from Bang Lamung Police Station, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, emergency responders found debris scattered across the road, including shattered glass and motorcycle parts. A heavily damaged pink-and-black Honda Click motorbike, registered in Chonburi, lay in the middle of the road. Nearby, an unidentified Thai male, estimated to be 30–40 years old, was found unconscious in a pool of blood with a broken jaw and facial injuries. Medics administered emergency treatment before transporting him to Pattaya Patmakhun Hospital in critical condition. A short distance away, police discovered the body of Nirut Nuchplian, 48, who had suffered fatal head injuries. Rescue workers covered the body with a white sheet and secured the area for investigators. The second vehicle involved, a grey Isuzu D-Max pickup truck sustained front-end damage, with a shattered windshield and a crushed left-side bumper. The driver, a man identified only as Arthit, aged 30, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Arthit recounted that he had been driving along Sukhumvit Road towards the red-light junction when the motorbike suddenly changed lanes, cutting in front of his vehicle in an attempt to switch to the right-hand lane. Unable to brake in time, his pickup collided forcefully with the motorbike. CCTV footage from a nearby building captured the impact, showing the pickup truck striking the motorbike at high speed. The motorbike skidded over 20 metres before coming to a halt. Police investigators are reviewing the footage to determine the precise cause of the collision. The deceased’s body has been transferred to Pattaya Patmakhun Hospital, where relatives will be contacted to make funeral arrangements. -- 2025-04-02

  15. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A four-year-old girl was rushed to hospital after accidentally shooting herself in the thigh while playing with a homemade gun she found in her father’s bedroom. Police in Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan, were alerted to the incident at around 11:00 on 1 April and arrived at a two-storey townhouse in Ladda Village, where they found the injured child, identified as Nattanida, crying in pain outside the house. She had suffered a gunshot wound to her right thigh, with the bullet lodged inside. Rescue workers provided emergency first aid before transporting her to a nearby hospital. The girl’s stepfather, Mr. Panawit, 28, was seen comforting her at the scene. Inside the house, officers discovered a disassembled homemade pen gun along with a .38 calibre bullet and a spent round, all stored in a plastic container. According to Parinya, 16, a relative who was present at the time, the young girl had been playing with two other children, an eight-year-old boy and another four-year-old girl, when the incident occurred. He recalled hearing a loud bang from inside the house while he was in his bedroom submitting schoolwork online. Rushing out, he found Nattanida on the floor, bleeding, with the pen gun lying nearby. The other two children were in shock, crying hysterically. Parinya explained that the weapon had been stored in a drawer in the child’s parents’ bedroom. It had allegedly been left there by a friend of her stepfather, who feared he might use it in anger. While playing, Nattanida reportedly found the plastic box containing the gun, took it out, and attempted to assemble it. The gun accidentally discharged, firing a bullet into her thigh. Police have confiscated the firearm for further examination and are investigating whether charges should be brought against the stepfather or others involved in the weapon’s storage. Officers will also interview the family at the hospital as part of the ongoing investigations. -- 2025-04-02

  17. Picture courtesy of Matichon. Immigration officers have arrested a foreign national for illegally working as a motorcycle taxi driver, an occupation reserved for Thai citizens. The arrest followed an operation led by senior immigration officials, including Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumas Boonyaluck, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, who had instructed officers to intensify checks on foreigners working in prohibited occupations. Acting on intelligence, Pol. Col. Pholasit Sutthiart and Pol. Lt. Col. Suriya Puangsomboon, investigators from Immigration Division 1, were informed about a man of foreign appearance operating a motorcycle taxi near Paradise Soi, Huai Khwang District. Undercover officers hired the suspect to transport them to Huai Khwang Police Station, engaging him in conversation during the ride. Upon arrival, waiting immigration officers identified the suspect as Mr. Leklai, a 32-year-old Lao national, who had entered Thailand on a three-nationality labour visa (NON-LA) on 30 July 2024, with permission to stay until 29 July 2026. He also presented a valid work permit, which matched his visa’s expiry date. However, his job as a motorcycle taxi driver violated the Ministry of Labour’s 2023 regulations, which strictly prohibit foreigners from working in certain professions, including public transport services. During questioning, Mr. Leklai admitted to working illegally for three days, earning around 300 baht per day. He had rented the official motorcycle taxi vest from a Thai acquaintance to appear legitimate. Authorities charged him with working outside his permitted occupation and informed him of his legal rights. He was then handed over to Huai Khwang Police Station for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-04-02

Picture courtesy of CIB Police from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested a 57-year-old man on 1 April, who had been on the run for over 11 years after attacking a bus driver with an axe, allegedly over a love affair dispute. Officers from the Special Operations Division (BKP) apprehended Mr. Thawatchai, also known as “Nueng,” on charges of attempted murder and carrying a weapon in a public place without reasonable cause. The arrest took place outside a temple in Soi Suksawat 74, Bang Chak, Phra Pradaeng District, Samut Prakan Province. The case dates back to end of 2013, when the victim, a bus driver, filed a police complaint. According to the report, Mr. Thawatchai boarded the bus as a passenger. When the vehicle reached a housing estate, he suddenly approached the driver and struck him in the face and head with an axe. The driver managed to stand up and grab Mr. Thawatchai’s arms to defend himself but suffered severe injuries to his hands, including a deep wound to his thumb. He was rushed to the hospital and later reported the attack to the police. Following many years of investigation, authorities received information about Mr. Thawatchai’s whereabouts and then located him standing outside a temple in Samut Prakan. Police approached him, presented the arrest warrant, and informed him of his legal rights before taking him into custody. 21. Picture courtesy of Khoasod. The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has penalised a motorcycle taxi rider on 1 April, for overcharging passengers in the aftermath of an earthquake, imposing a fine of 3,000 baht and suspending his licence for one month. The incident took place on 28 March at around 17:20, when a commuter lodged a complaint with the DLT, stating that they had been charged an excessive fare while trying to leave the Siam Square area following the earthquake. Following an investigation, Mr. Winai, the motorcycle taxi rider in question, was summoned for questioning. He admitted to picking up the passenger at MRT Phetchaburi Station (Exit 2) and transporting them to MRT Lumpini Station, a distance of approximately 2.5 kilometres. He initially charged 200 baht but later demanded an additional 50 baht, bringing the total fare to 250 baht, well above the legal rate. The DLT Transport Inspection Division ruled that Mr. Winai’s actions violated the Motor Vehicle Act of 1979 and took advantage of passengers during a time of crisis. As a result, the following penalties were imposed: 1. A 3,000-baht fine for charging fares beyond the legal limit, in violation of Section 66/5 of the Motor Vehicle Act. 2. A one-month suspension of Mr. Winai’s public motorcycle taxi licence. 3. Mandatory three-hour training on ethical conduct in public transportation, with a warning that further violations would result in permanent licence revocation. The DLT stated and reiterated its commitment to protecting passengers and ensuring fair pricing, urging commuters to report any instances of overcharging by public transport operators. -- 2025-04-02

A 27-year-old man in Maha Sarakham set fire to his own home after becoming enraged with his mother for not cooking him a meal quickly enough. 23. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. A 27-year-old man in Maha Sarakham set fire to his own home after becoming enraged with his mother for not cooking him a meal quickly enough. The suspect, who was under the influence of methamphetamine and alcohol, admitted to starting the fire out of frustration, leading to the complete destruction of the house. Police in Khew Yai, Kantharawichai District, arrested Mr. Chinkorn in the early hours of the morning of 1 April, after tracking him down near the burnt remains of his home. Officers found a lighter on his person, which was taken as evidence. The fire, which occurred on the evening of 31 March, reduced the single-storey house to little more than six charred support pillars. During questioning, Mr. Chinkorn confessed to deliberately setting the fire. He admitted to taking methamphetamine and drinking white spirits earlier in the day while helping a neighbour. After collecting ant eggs for his mother to cook, he became irritated when he could not find his mobile phone and when his mother refused to prepare food immediately. In a fit of rage, he set fire to a pile of clothes and bedding in protest. However, the fire quickly spread beyond his control, forcing him to flee. A background check revealed that Mr. Chinkorn had been released from prison less than a year ago after serving time for theft. He has now been charged with arson, which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison, and illegal drug use. He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. His mother, Ms. Naithong, 58, expressed sorrow over the incident but insisted she forgives her son and does not want him to return to prison. She explained that they lived together following the death of her husband and that, despite his troubles, her son always provided for her. “I forgive him. I don’t want him to go to jail again. We only have each other,” she said. “He never hurt me. If he wants to burn the house, let him. But now I have nowhere to live. I only have the clothes I’m wearing, and last night, I had to sleep in the net we used for raising insects.” A neighbour, Ms. Boonthiang, 63, reported that mother and son frequently argued. She confirmed that Mr. Chinkorn had earlier brought ant eggs for his mother, but after an exchange of words, he started the fire. Initially, his mother was able to extinguish the flames, but he set another blaze, which quickly spread beyond control. “The mother came to tell us what was happening, but by then, it was too late,” Ms. Boonthiang said. “We all think he should face charges. He is unpredictable when he takes drugs. Luckily, the fire didn’t spread to other homes, or we would all have suffered.” Authorities are now investigating further while ensuring the mother has temporary shelter and support. -- 2025-04-02

  25. Picture courtesy of Workpoint. Police have led a 64-year-old man through a crime scene reenactment after he confessed to murdering one of his partners in a rubber plantation in Betong district, Yala. The suspect, Mr. Weerasak, admitted to the crime and revealed his motive. Officers from Betong Police Station, led by Pol Lt Col Sakrapee Wuttisak and Pol Lt Col Monop Damdaeng, took the suspect to several key locations related to the murder of Ms. Nittaya, 45, who was killed on March 17. The reenactment covered six locations: 1. A roadside pavilion at KM 19, where the victim and suspect met. 2. A house within a rubber plantation, three kilometres from the Yala-Betong Road. 3. The murder site, 70 metres from the house. 4. A location where the suspect burned the victim’s clothes. 5. A site where he removed and discarded the victim’s motorbike registration plate and mirrors. 6. A friend’s house in Sub Anan Alley, Yarom subdistrict, where he left the victim’s motorbike. During questioning, Mr. Weerasak claimed he had five girlfriends, with Ms. Nittaya being the fifth. Although he loved her, they did not live together as she was already married. They met only occasionally. On the day of the murder, the couple argued about 50,000 baht that the victim had taken and her unfulfilled promise to move in with him. After the initial confrontation, Mr. Weerasak returned home on his motorbike, but Ms. Nittaya later followed. Another heated argument ensued, during which Ms. Nittaya ended their relationship and walked away. The suspect followed, pleading with her to reconsider, but she refused. In a fit of rage, he slapped her once and then punched her hard, causing her to fall face-first and lose consciousness. Mr. Weerasak watched her for five minutes but, seeing no movement, assumed she was dead. He went to fetch a hoe to bury her, but the soil was too hard to dig. Noticing she was still moving slightly, he struck her on the head with the hoe, killing her. Eleven days later, on March 27, a local searching for forest products discovered the decomposed body and alerted the police. Investigators swiftly identified and arrested the suspect, who will now face prosecution. -- 2025-04-02
