  2. Picture from responders. A ten-wheeler truck transporting 113 pigs caught fire on a bypass road in Chaiyaphum province after a rear tyre exploded, prompting an emergency response from local firefighters and rescue teams. Authorities received a distress call via the 191 Emergency Hotline, alerting them to a fire on a livestock truck travelling on the Chaiyaphum bypass road. Fire engines from Chaiyaphum Municipality, traffic police from the Chaiyaphum City Police Station, and rescue teams from Sawang Kunnatham Foundation were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officials found flames engulfing the rear wheels of a white ten-wheel truck, which was transporting pigs for a livestock company. Firefighters worked swiftly, using high-pressure hoses to douse the flames, successfully bringing the fire under control within 30 minutes. As a precautionary measure, rescue teams released the pigs from the truck to prevent them from being trapped in the blaze. Another vehicle was then arranged to transfer the surviving livestock and continue the journey to Mukdahan province. According to the truck driver, he had been transporting breeding pigs from Chai Nat province to Mukdahan when disaster struck. As he was driving along the bypass, he heard a loud explosion from one of the rear tyres, which then caught fire. “I tried to put out the flames using water, but the fire spread too quickly,” he recounted. “I had no choice but to call emergency services for help.” Despite the rapid response, nine pigs perished in the fire, while the remaining 104 survived and were successfully transferred to another vehicle. The full extent of the damage to the truck is still being assessed, with authorities conducting further inspections to determine the cause of the tyre explosion and the financial impact of the incident. Local officials have advised transport companies to conduct regular vehicle maintenance and ensure that all safety measures are in place to prevent similar incidents in the future. -- 2025-03-28

  4. Picture from responders. A two-year-old boy drowned after reportedly wandering towards an overflow weir along the Wang River in Koh Kha district, Lampang province. The toddler, who was staying with his grandmother during the school holidays, is believed to have fallen into the river and been swept away by the current. Police, emergency responders, and hospital staff rushed to the scene after being alerted to a drowning incident near the Haad Poo Dai village overflow weir. The boy’s body was found 300 metres downstream, near a sandbank in the Wang River. His head bore signs of impact injuries, and his skin had already turned pale, indicating that he had been dead for at least two to three hours. According to initial investigations, the child had been left in the care of his grandmother while his parents worked in Ayutthaya province. He had been staying with her since 9 March, with plans for his parents to collect him in early April. Earlier in the afternoon, the boy went missing from his grandmother’s home, which is situated close to the riverbank. Family members and neighbours immediately began a search, fearing he had wandered towards the weir. Their worst fears were realised when they found his body floating in the river. Authorities suspect that the child may have approached the water out of curiosity before falling from the edge of the overflow weir, which stands 3 metres high. The impact likely caused head injuries, leaving him unable to recover before being swept away. Following an initial examination, police and medical staff confirmed head trauma, but the body has been transferred for further autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the boy’s grieving parents, upon receiving the devastating news, have immediately travelled from Ayutthaya to Lampang. -- 2025-03-28

  6. Pictures courtesy of Matichon. Authorities have launched a crackdown on illegal short-term condominium rentals in Pattaya, following directives from the Ministry of Interior to regulate the sector and address public concerns. On 26 March, Chaiwat Chuntiraphong, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA), ordered a special task force to investigate condominium buildings suspected of violating the Hotel Act 2004. The operation, led by Ronnarong Tipsiri, Deputy Director-General of DOPA, involved local administrative officials, immigration police, and Pattaya City Police. Three condominium buildings in Pattaya, were inspected. Officials found that two of them were being illegally rented out on a daily basis via online platforms. To evade detection, the operators placed room keys and keycards in automated lockers inside the buildings, allowing guests to check in independently. At the third location, a real estate agency employee was found escorting guests to their rooms. Authorities gathered evidence, including booking records, bank transfer receipts, and ownership documents, before filing formal complaints with the Bang Lamung District administrative police. Those found guilty of violating the Hotel Act 2004 will face legal action. Additionally, the information will be shared with the Land Office, Pattaya City authorities, the Revenue Department, and other relevant agencies to ensure all violations are prosecuted under applicable laws. The Department of Provincial Administration will also coordinate with the Land Department to ensure condominium management teams monitor and prevent illegal rentals. Public awareness campaigns will be launched to educate property owners about legal compliance, aiming to create a safe and orderly living environment in Pattaya. -- 2025-03-27

  8. Pictures from responders. A devastating four-vehicle collision on Phutthasakhon Road in Samut Sakhon has left three construction workers dead and six others injured after their pickup truck overturned. The crash was reportedly triggered when a black Toyota Alphard cut in front of another pickup, causing a chain reaction crash. The incident occurred at approximately 22:00 on 26 March near a second-hand car dealership, around 300 metres from the Phasi Charoen Canal overpass. Pol. Lt. Thawisak Lekkla, Deputy Inspector of Krathum Baen Police Station, was alerted to the crash and coordinated emergency response teams from Krathum Baen Hospital, Vichaivej Hospital (Om Noi), and Mahachai 2 Hospital. Rescue volunteers from the Samut Sakhon Charity Foundation also rushed to assist the victims. Upon arrival, responders found five severely injured construction workers lying on the pavement, crying out in pain, while three others sustained minor injuries. The victims were quickly transported to hospital. A male victim, later identified as Mr. Amphun Phueksopa, 60, was discovered deceased near a pedestrian bridge support pillar, covered in blood. His body was covered with a white sheet while awaiting forensic examination by Krathum Baen Hospital staff. Two more victims later succumbed to their injuries in hospital, bringing the death toll to three. According to the driver of the Toyota pickup truck (registration from Nakhon Pathom), which was transporting the construction workers, a total of nine people were in the vehicle, three seated in the front cabin and six in the rear cargo bed along with construction tools. They had just finished work at a previous site and were en route to a new job location. He recounted that his vehicle was following an Isuzu D-Max pickup in the rightmost lane. As they descended from the Phasi Charoen Canal overpass, a black Toyota Alphard in the left lane suddenly veered into the right lane, clipping the Isuzu D-Max, which was unable to brake in time. In an attempt to avoid the collision, he swerved left, but the Isuzu D-Max, already out of control, also veered left, striking each other. The impact caused the Toyota to overturn, violently throwing the workers from the cargo bed onto the pavement. Their construction tools were scattered across the road, with the overturned pickup sliding into a parked white car, causing additional damage. Police have impounded all vehicles involved in the crash for further investigation. The local municipality deployed fire trucks to wash down the road due to a significant oil spill, preventing further incidents. Officers summoned all drivers and surviving passengers for questioning at Krathum Baen Police Station. They are also reviewing dashboard camera footage and CCTV recordings from the area to determine liability and proceed with legal action. -- 2025-03-27

  10. Picture courtesy of Matichon. A 36-year-old man has been arrested after evading capture for nearly a decade following an attempted murder charge linked to a business dispute in the bottled water industry. On 26 March, officers from the Crime Suppression Division, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Wittaya Sriprasertphap, ordered the arrest of SomSak Panprasong, also known as Toon, aged 36. He was apprehended at a house in Moo 1, Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province. SomSak had been wanted under an arrest warrant issued by Pattaya Provincial Court (No. 324/2016) on 9 December 2016, for charges including: • Attempted murder • Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition • Carrying a firearm in public • Property damage The case dates back to January 2012, when SomSak allegedly fired gunshots into a rival’s home while the victim and their family were inside. Authorities from Bang Lamung Police Station arrested him, and the Pattaya Provincial Court later sentenced him to 14 years and 4 months in prison without suspension. However, SomSak failed to appear for sentencing and had been on the run ever since. During questioning, SomSak claimed his older brother, who operated a bottled water factory, had a long-standing business dispute with a competitor. He alleged that the conflict escalated, resulting in a shooting incident, but insisted he had no involvement in the attack. Authorities have transferred SomSak to Bang Lamung Police Station for further legal proceedings. -- 2025-03-27

  14. Picture courtesy of CH7 A team of veterinarians and wildlife conservation officers is working to treat a wild elephant named Plai Nga Ngam, which has been found limping due to a severe foot injury in the Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary. Mr. Kongkiat Temtamanan, Director of the Protected Areas Regional Office 2 (Sriracha), confirmed that authorities were alerted to the injured elephant by the head of the Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary on 25 March. A specialist team was immediately dispatched to locate and assist the distressed animal. Leading the veterinary team was Mr. Sirawit Supanuek, a practising wildlife veterinarian, alongside officials from the Wildlife Rescue Centre 2 (Krabok Khu), the Animal Health Management Division of the regional conservation office, and local authorities from Khlong Takrao Subdistrict Administrative Organisation. The search for the injured elephant began at 13:00 and by 18:00, the team successfully located Plai Nga Ngam. The male elephant, estimated to be between 10 and 12 years old, has a pair of tusks, stands approximately 2 metres tall, and weighs about 3,000 kilograms. It was observed walking with a pronounced limp. Upon closer examination, veterinarians discovered significant swelling and chronic inflammation in the elephant’s right hind foot. The sole of the foot was visibly cracked, with blood and pus seeping from the wound. Due to the elephant’s high stress levels and wary behaviour, the team determined that a close-contact procedure would be too risky. Instead, they opted for a remote treatment approach, administering two anti-inflammatory injections (Meloxicam) and one dose of antibiotics (Ceftiofur) via dart gun at 21:30 and 22:00, respectively. Following the initial treatment, Mr. Kongkiat instructed a rapid-response wildlife monitoring unit to closely observe the elephant’s condition and report any changes. Veterinary teams remain on standby for further intervention if needed. During their operation, officials also identified another injured young wild elephant outside the protected area. The elephant, estimated to be 5 to 6 years old, was found in Khlong Takrao Forest Plantation, Tha Takiap district, Chachoengsao province, suffering from a hind leg injury. Authorities have assigned a monitoring team to track the young elephant’s movements and report its condition to veterinarians. Plans are being made to assess its injury and develop an appropriate treatment strategy. The Protected Areas Regional Office 2 (Sriracha) continues to coordinate efforts to ensure the well-being of both injured elephants and is committed to providing ongoing support and medical care as needed. -- 2025-03-27

UPDATE Former Village Assistant Arrested for Fatal Shooting in Krabi Picture courtesy of CH7 In Krabi province, police have arrested a former village assistant headman for the fatal shooting of a man suspected of stealing rubber scraps. The body of the victim, later identified as Mr. Suriya, also known as “Chaeng,” aged 35, was discovered on the Southern Seaboard Road in Moo 3, Ao Luek Nuea subdistrict, Ao Luek district. 19. 20. Pictures from responders. A group of Vietnamese nationals suspected of operating an illegal indoor cannabis farm in Chonburi allegedly set fire to the facility before fleeing the scene, authorities have reported. The blaze broke out at 11:00 on 25 March at a commercial building located at 558 Moo 9, Sukhumvit Road, Thung Sukhla subdistrict, Si Racha district. The Laem Chabang Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centre dispatched fire crews to the site, where they found the fire originating from the back of the building. After 20 minutes, firefighters managed to bring the flames under control. Upon inspection, officials discovered that the building had been illegally converted into a high-tech indoor cannabis farm, divided into multiple grow rooms. The fire caused extensive damage to the ceilings, ventilation and cooling systems, and cannabis cultivation areas, destroying all the equipment and plants inside. The following morning, 26 March, a secondary fire ignited in the building’s cooling system, prompting another emergency response. However, when authorities attempted to locate the Vietnamese tenants, they were nowhere to be found. Investigators from Laem Chabang Police Station later confirmed that the fire was deliberately set to destroy equipment, materials, and cannabis plants, rather than an accidental blaze. Large bundles of harvested, dried cannabis were discovered burnt and discarded alongside melted plastic plant pots. During the investigation, Ms. Peeranant, the building’s owner, arrived at the scene and provided a statement. She explained that in mid-2024, a Vietnamese broker rented the property on behalf of the suspects, signing a formal lease agreement and paying the required deposit. She was unaware that the tenants had illegally modified the building into a cannabis farm until the fire broke out. Authorities are now working to track down the Vietnamese gang members involved in the operation and will proceed with legal action. -- 2025-03-27

He sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to hospital. The van was carrying seven people, including the driver. Three passengers were taken to Phimai Hospital, while four others were transported to Kong Hospital for treatment. The lorry driver, Mr. Chalerm, 50, stated that he was transporting asphalt from Chonburi to Khon Kaen. Due to ongoing roadworks, traffic was reduced to a single lane, forcing vehicles to slow down. “I heard a loud crash at the back of my lorry,” he said. “When I checked my mirrors, I saw that a van had hit me hard. I immediately stopped and got out to find several injured passengers inside.” He promptly notified the police and emergency services. Following the crash, Bow Kanyarat, a popular YouTuber and influencer, confirmed on social media that the van involved was transporting her team to an out-of-town filming location. “This morning, the van carrying my team was involved in an accident. Several people were injured and are now in hospital. My mum and one of my team members are in the emergency room,” she wrote. “I’ll update everyone as soon as I have more information.
