  1. I currently have a FedEx package with hotel toiletry samples ie shampoos etc for a major hotel chain to approve but nothing I can do will change the minds of the FDA and Customs even though the supplier is one of the largest producers of these products in Asis. I just put down as a learning curve and move on.

  2. Simple answer yes, if you think a tourist attraction can charge double if not more for foreigners then obviously the hospitals will do same.

I once went to pay my bill for an outpatient service and they thought I was paying cash, that in itself was highly priced, they presented me with the bill and then I told them no it was on my insurance and then after a few key punches on the computer the price almost doubled.

If I have to get medicine I ask for a prescription and then take it to the pharmacy outside at the front and the price is more than half for the same medicine. For example I buy a special vitamin for my eye condition in the hospital its sold at 1050 baht just outside at the pharmacy on Sukhumvit its 490 baht same brand etc.

  3. Had a similar encounter at Mimosa the other night, their website said 50baht admission, over 60s free, went up there and they would not have it, pay 50 baht or not go in! I know it's only 50 baht but it's the principal, they advertise something then do not abide by their own adverts! Anyway went in, complete waste of time inflated tourist prices, just another shopping mall with a food court and the " water show" lasted nine minutes! My first and last visit. No cabaret.

Weekends they have a 30 min cabaret show

  4. I'm confused - the Floating Market charges an entry fee, but at least they have something different, shows, etc, and it makes the tourists in their tour buses feel they are getting something worthwhile.

Just what is Mimosa charging for? 200 baht each to go shopping in an outdoor shopping mall to buy the same things you can get in Big C?

They have cabaret style shows as well

  5. The condo developer's have a lot to answer for for the build up of traffic in recent times. When a project has a 1000 odd condos in it and assume half are sold to Bangkok people imagine the extra cars coming down here all thr time.

Now times that by the number of developments popping up everywhere.

They should impose a road tax on every condo sold to improve the roads.

With the amount of condos popping up all the time I also don't see an increase in other services being planned or built such as more capacity water storages etc.

  6. I don't see how any insurance company would cover damage caused by a person who operates the vessel without a boat or marine operator's license.

They certainly won't cover damage caused in a motor car accident caused by an unlicensed driver, why would they cover the same in a marine accident.

The tourists who operate these vessels will in most cases have no marine licence or idea of rules of the water

  7. Then what is the full price?

    200 Baht.

The place is owned by a Ladyboy hence the reason for the Ladyboy Shows in the evenings.

The large dirt carpark on the right side of it is scheduled for phase 2 which construction begins later this year.

  8. The new owners of The Acorn tell me that they should be ready to open for business around the first week of April.

The Acorn is the old Shennanigans at The Avenue.

Back bar has been completely ripped out, a lot of rewirkung inside including the pool table as soon as you walk in the door.

I went to a test run Party in there last Saturday night with a private staff party with about 200 guests went off like a treat.

Looking forward to enjoying many nights in the refurb pub.

  9. I have an annual multi trip policy I purchased via the net from Bupa in the UK covers me worldwide for about 20 Million pounds.

Cost was just under $500 Australian and have renewed it at same price even though they covered me for a major emergency surgery in Los Angeles that cost about £25, 000 UK pounds.

Best service and best investment I carry in my pocket always.

  10. What is the problem with explaining what you mean? Is there something to be gained here by being cryptic?

    Agreed, JT.

If it means anything, then simply spell it out.

The suspense is killing you both huh?

    Just Another <deleted>' Irish Bar

    (cuss-free version)

It's not going to be an Irish pub

  11. So is the Acorn going to be a bar, restaurant, or both?

If restaurant, what kind of food will they serve?

If a bar, I know they will serve booze, so not too interesting.

Both - with western and thai foods
