  1. In the past I've mainly used Manjaro, Mint and Zorin. I wanted to freshen up my HTPC so I decided to try the latest Makulu and SuperX. I really wanted to use Makulu because I think it's an awesome looking distro but it wasn't playing nice with my AMD gpu and I wasn't able to get the proprietary driver working. As a result I installed SuperX and I'm glad I did. Really love this distro! So far everything has worked flawlessly and I'm pleased with the speed and aesthetics of it. Proprietary drivers installed easily and all hardware was detected and functions properly.

Only change I made was to remove Musique in favor of Clementine because quite frankly Clementine owns it.

If you're looking for a new distro I highly recommend you give SuperX a try. http://superxos.com/

  2. About a week ago my ToT was down when I got up in the morning. I left it because I had to go to work anyway. When I got home in the afternoon it was still down so my wife called support. They told us to wait 15 minutes then restart the router. Did just that and all was working again.

  3. I've been using ToT Fiber2U for about a year now. It has been very reliable and consistent albeit not very fast. The international routing has always been pretty terrible though. For that reason I also have TRUE adsl for my online gaming. In the past ping to my Australian server was 280 with ToT and 150 with TRUE.

A couple weeks ago I tested the ping on ToT and to my surprise it was sitting at 150 and has been the same since then. On top of that downloads have been blazingly fast eg: 400MB torrents in around 3 minutes. Regular downloads have also been very good. This is at anytime day or night.

I'm not sure what has changed but I LIKE IT! I won't cancel my TRUE connection just yet but if things stay as they are I will drop it fairly soon. I really hope that the changes are here to stay.

  4. Broadband will most likely NOT improve your gameplay because it's dependent on ping/latency, not bandwidth. Your best bet would be to find a game server closer to home to play on like Thailand or Singapore. I play an online game on Australian servers and I get a ping of about 140ms using TRUE adsl.

If you are using TOT internet then your pings will be higher due to their woeful international routing. Switch to true or 3bb for better experience.

  5. I used to have this problem often with my DELL laptop and I discovered a fix - at least for my particular hardware.

This would happen for me when I plugged the battery into the socket before I plugged it into the laptop. Now I always make sure to connect to the laptop before I plug it into the socket. This doesn't always work if the "plugged in not charging" is already showing. In that case I've found that simply leaving the battery unplugged for a couple of hours gets me back on track.

  6. Several serious audiophiles I know have recommended a lookaround at headphone.com. Very good information there; comparisons and their top recommendations. You will see that AudioTechnica, Shure and Sennheiser come out on top. I personally prefer Sennheiser and have a one upper-scale for serious audio and one lower-mid for TV; two different parts of the house thus the two headphones. The Sennheiser Momentum series is within your price range and the ones I have are excellent in sound and fit.

    +1 Sennheiser

  7. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 360Safe. It's fairly new on the scene but it has had many excellent reviews/ratings and it's also free. I've been using it for some time on two of my computers.

If you prefer to stick with a paid service then BitDefender has been rated number one (on several sites) for the last couple of years. Kaspersky is still highly esteemed too. It might be easier for you just to resubscribe unless for some reason you really want to change.
