Why is Thailand so terrible at sport?
Watawattana replied to Yellow Fever's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The Thai ladies indoor hockey team recently won the Asian Championships, and therefore qualified for the World Cup next year. -
This is massively sad, not just for the deaths but for the obvious corruption and that it appears nobody did jail time. In Hong Kong there was a collapse 2 years ago, the project manager, and I think others, are being prosecuted. One is being charged with manslaughter. Here's the story - https://www.thestandard.com.hk/section-news/section/4/262476/Manager-faces-manslaughter-charges-over-crane-collapse. The company involved got banned, and I'm aware that those who own that company are likely to get blacklisted so that can't simply start a new company and start trading again. This doesn't stop industrial accidents in HK, but it certainly concentrates the minds of those involved in construction planning.

It's a fair point. They probably cannot find any good prosecutors without a 'history'. Although, across the world as I know it, the standard of public servant tends to be lower than in years gone by. Very much including Republicans. It could be as no high quality person wants to put themselves through the media wringer to serve the public, when they all know they did something that's somewhere on social media that could come back to bite, whereas someone who grew up before social media did nothing wrong of course. Ahem. Those in public life either really didn't do anything, or they don't care and hope it doesn't come out before they make their bung.

For me this is a great news story as it shows the benefits of appointing people NOT based on their politics, but more on whether they can be good for the role they are filling. And then the politician leaving them to get on with it despite the woke bovine brown stuff. Lots of places can learn from this, but probably won't bother.

Want to find a romantic Thai partner
Watawattana replied to Terrance8812's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Hi, I generally understand the comments on here. Most have had not so great experiences, or they know what they're getting and are okay with it. I know a few farang, and it is a few, who are in great long term relationships with a minimum of issues. Can I suggest you have a look at the following web sites to do some of your own research? In no particular order: - https://www.thailandredcat.com/how-to-ruin-your-life-as-a-foreigner-in-thailand/ - https://www.thailandredcat.com/the-4-ways-on-how-to-meet-thai-girls/ - https://www.thailandredcat.com/the-pros-and-cons-of-online-dating-sites-in-thailand/ There are plenty of follow-on links on those sites, and maybe someone else has other sites they can recommend for your own research. I wish you all the best and the maximum amount of happiness possible. Especially the endings. 😇 -
What do you do with all your free time?
Watawattana replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Fair question, apologies for my assumption. Rishi Sunak is the current UK Prime Minister, and there's an Election due on July 4th where nearly everybody expects him to lose power, with most believing it will be by a very large margin. -

Noted you didn't mention keeping Rishi in power. Guess you wanted to stick to the possibles rather than the impossibles... -

So often I see the Thai Police being criticised for one thing or another, or rather for not doing one thing or another. But is it all their fault, or is there an issue further along the justice system? Where I'm from, I'm not a police nor am I a criminal, but I do know enough people who are to know that often it's not the police who screw up or are too lazy to prosecute, but the issues are more often further up the chain in the faceless prosecution and court services, or are as a result of a crazy government who flip flops on their priority setting or cuts resources. And especially in the jail system, which is so overcrowded that the authorities want the police to back-off a bit. The Police would love to have zero tolerance because they know the impact that so-called low-level crime has on communities, but they are not allowed to. Might it be the same in Thailand?

Stormy Daniels Calls for Trump's Imprisonment Following Conviction

No problem, guess you must have seen it to have that understanding, in which case you are completely correct, and thanks for the reply. -

Stormy Daniels Calls for Trump's Imprisonment Following Conviction
Watawattana replied to Social Media's topic in World News
That's maybe not how it works. If her Agreement is like mine she is allowed to talk to law enforcement about the crime without being seen to have broken the Agreement, and if the perp is prosecuted then found guilty she's covered. If the perp was found not guilty, then she might be open to being sued of course. Back to my case (as I'm not intimate with her Agreement, or indeed with her). I was not allowed to go public with the allegations at any time, but I could talk to a lawyer/police. Then if they prosecuted I'd have been allowed to testify. If guilty then I'd be completely clear. If not guilty me ex-employer could have sued me, but of course as the evidence was 100% obvious then they wouldn't have, even if they were found not guilty on a technicality. The burden of proof is less in a civil trial and the fraud they committed was clear and obvious (contract claimed to have been signed on a certain date to meet corporate/personal targets, but it wasn't signed till after that deadline). -

Stormy Daniels Calls for Trump's Imprisonment Following Conviction

I obviously don't have access to that Agreement, but I have an Agreement with a former employer that contains a clause that negates the gag if a crime has been committed. -
Is there a "Plan B" if we are declared "not fit to fly"?

A slightly different way to travel would be as a passenger on a cargo ship. https://www.martide.com/en/blog/can-passengers-travel-on-cargo-ships -

Not easy to avoid the expensive hotels, but plenty to do for free in SG. And there's Club 7-11, as long as you stop drinking by 10.30pm! https://www.timeout.com/singapore/things-to-do/free-things-to-do-singapore -
2024 destinations to visit near Thailand ?
Watawattana replied to DonniePeverley's topic in General Topics
Have a look at Hong Kong. Loads of good nightlife, Toaist temples, hiking, beaches and great food. Just over 2 hours from BKK/DMK and it's a cheap flight due to the number of flight operators. -
Who's going to the Philippines then?
Watawattana replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I went to Cebu & Palawan a couple of months ago to check them out as possibles. Much poverty in Cebu, but the people were incredibly friendly and I didn't feel unsafe. Good international travel connections too. Palawan was amazing, I went to El Nido. Stunning beaches and by far the best food I've ever had in the Philippines. The area seems to have had more money shoved into the infrastructure, but still a few issues with power and dumped rubbish. Plenty of bars and massage places too. Top of my Philippines list at the moment. -
PM Plans to Upgrade and Rename Hua Hin Airport
Watawattana replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
Wow! I hope so!! If the powers that be want to explore this with an international Consultant with experience in this, then feel free to get in contact. International flights too? -
Short answer is yes. Can take a few months, but average is more than a year and is often more than 2. In Trump's case, I wouldn't be surprised if it took much longer than 2 years and headed to the US Supreme Court. Of course, he could be found not guilty, in which case the prosecutor cannot appeal (double-jeopardy).
