  1. A first step in this direction has been achieved by ousting Britain from the Union. Now it is essential to get rid also of the national Veto system to isolate, and eventually expel, those countries which only joined to exploit the EU for self-interest.
  2. Thank you: it is contradictory. Actually, it's my mistake. I should have written: "This means that, if you are resident of Thailand, your pension and annuities are only taxed in Thailand. They are not taxable in Australia..."
  3. Professional Moving Services Thailand | International Movers Thailand | Asian Tigers Thailand (asiantigersgroup.com) I used (from Europe to Thailand) and recommend them.
  4. Learn how to write in English! You wrote: "So that means both Somachai and his wife can work and earn 24k per month and they don't have to file tax returns (well they should, but no tax would be due)." If they both earn 24k, they earn a total of 48k per month or 576k/year.
  5. This means that, if you are resident of Thailand, your pension and annuities are only taxed in Thailand. They are not taxable in Thailand (it's possible there are exceptions such as pensions paid to public servants).
  6. It doesn't. Take as an example the Article 20, paragraph 2. of the Treaty between Thailand and the USA: "[...] social security benefits and other similar public pensions paid by a Contracting State to a resident of the other Contracting State or a citizen of the United States shall be taxable only in the first-mentioned State". It's clear that the social security income is only taxable in the US (and, unless the Treaty is terminated by one of the parties, which is very unlikely, it will not be taxable in Thailand in the future). Paragraph 2. on the other end states: "Subject to the provisions of paragraph 2 of Article 21 (Government Service), pensions and other similar remuneration paid to a resident of a Contracting State in consideration of past employment shall be taxable only in that State." Thailand always had the right to tax the US pensions (except those specified in Article 21, paragraph 2 of said Treaty). Up to now however Thailand did not levy any tax.
  7. 150k THB is the yearly income threshold. The couple in your example would make 576k THB.
  8. I did a quick Google search: used watch bangkok - Google Search and below are the top results: https://conradtime.com/ https://www.rolexvintagemania.com/ https://jewel-cafe.co.th/ https://orientalhorology.com/ DIMO / Home (dimobrand.com) Siam Swiss I Official Rolex & Tudor Retailer in Thailand This is the site I use when I want to check the retail price of a specific watch: Chrono24: The World's Leading Watch Market
  9. According to the article, the "attackers were reportedly members of the Youth Union of Turkey, a nationalist group [...].". The Youth Union of Turkey is a Turkish anti-American, anti-Atlanticist, and Eurasianist revolutionary youth organization closely associated with the Patriotic Party. The Patriotic Party is a leftist-party, strongly pro-China and pro-Russia as well as anti-American. It opposes any future Turkish membership in the European Union and any cooperation with what it calls "American imperialism". The Patriotic Party has been voted by a very, very tiny minority of the population. It has 0 (zero) elected representatives in Grand National Assembly (the Turkish Parliament), 0 (zero) in both the Metropolitan and the District Municipalities, it has 0 (zero) elected Provincial Councilors. All the Patriotic Party has been able to obtain in the last local elections is 5 representatives elected in municipal assemblies (5 out of the 20,498 representatives elected nationwide in the municipal assemblies, or 0.02%). Now, if this is not a tiny minority, kindly tell us what you would consider as such.
  10. My original claim simply stated that the opinion of the "Youth Union of Turkey, a nationalist group that later claimed responsibility for the assault" is shared by a tiny minority of Turks. This is a fact. But I recognize that my statement was vague enough to give rise to the wildest fantasies, like the one you indulged in.
  11. Old condos in Bangkok often have sinks and drains not equipped with siphons. If the sink and drains have no siphon, then cockroaches will constantly emerge from the sink (or drains). Equipping a sink with a siphon is easy and inexpensive: any plumber can do it. With regards to the drains, it is a bit trickier. There are some after-market siphons available in Shopee/Lazada which may address the issue (see the second picture I posted below). Besides the siphons, it is also essential that the condo is kept clean, and cockroaches find no food around. They can survive up to a month without food, after which they will inevitably die.
  12. The fact that the USA are perceived as hostile by a majority of the Turkish people, doesn't mean that Turks are out on the hunt for American sailors 24/7. This is an isolated incident, and the USA is still the second largest importer of Turkish goods right after Germany. The positive perception of Russia is also due to the strong presence of Russian tourists in the country (6.3 million in 2023). In the same year, a record-breaking 1,3 million Americans visited Turkey (32 percent increase over 2022), a testament of the welcoming nature of the Turkish people.
  13. Having dealt with Turkey for over 30 years, I know that the point of view expressed by the attackers is shared by a tiny minority of the population. They also seem too old to spend their time hunting for American sailors and attacking them. I wouldn't be surprised if they are on the payroll of one of America's foes in the region.

  15. There is no need to further embarrass yourself. We all understand your mood. We read about the claims of illegalities ongoing in the USA. We all saw what happened in 2020, and we are well aware of the risk it may be repeated again in 2024. But whatever, keep it for yourselves. Don't make it public. Don't keep on deprecating and belittling your country, if you are serious about Making America Great Again. It's a matter of commonsense, and not rocket science.
  16. When it comes to executing Chinese Communist Party officials, I am all in. I would recommend that you read the book "Red Roulette: An Insider’s Story of Wealth, Power, Corruption, and Vengeance in Today’s China" written by Desmond Shum. It describes in minute details the corruption ongoing in nowadays China, with a special focus on Xi Jinping's family and close associates. Xi’s sister Qi Qiaoqiao and her husband Deng Jiagui are the owners of Beijing Central People’s Trust Real Estate Development Corporation Ltd. In 2012, Bloomberg revealed that Xi’s extended family had total assets worth $376 million, which included 18% stake in the provincial state-owned Jiangxi Rare Earth and Rare Metals Tungsten Group. Rare earths and metals are essential components in the manufacturing of electric vehicles, which adoption is currently heavily promoted in China. And when it comes to executing corrupt Communist party officers, I would start from here. Reality is that, when it comes to corruption, Western politicians are amateurs if compared to Chinese and Russian apparatchik.
  17. An American friend living in Bangkok, a Trump staunch supporter, turned from cheery and euphoric (when Trump was apparently set to win in a landslide against Joe Biden), to a dark and pessimistic state of mind, when Kamala Harris replaced Biden on the democratic ticket. According to him, the republicans were tricked into fighting Joe Biden, spending a significant amount of money in the process, until very late in the presidential race, only to learn, at the very last minute, that Kamala Harris will be the democratic contender for the presidency. He finds a hard time believing dems could outsmart the republicans. He insists that Kamala Harris democratic nomination is nothing short of illegal, because she did not win in a competitive contest and, therefore, she should be disqualified. When we argued that she will still contest the presidency in a competitive and democratic general election, he replied that the American elections are rigged, and their outcome seldom reflect the will of the people. He really seems hopeless, and we can't help but feeling sorry for him.
  18. There is no point in spending your whole life eating and drinking as if you're sick, just for the sake of dying in good health.
  19. Quite the opposite: I value Germany (also because I was lucky enough to study German when I was a young student, and to appreciate both its culture and people) and I value my home country, because anything I am I owe to it. I am not on the run, not from the law enforcement, not from the taxman, not from my ex and not even from myself. But I also lived in Thailand for a while when I was younger, and I ended up loving this country. Hence the decision to come back here when the opportunity arose.
  20. As I mentioned, the TM.30 is not required. I ask the landlord to send me a copy of the TM.30 to make sure it is updated. I don't know what happens to my address registration when I stay in a hotel in Thailand or a leave the country for a trip overseas. With regards to the TM.47, in February the officer did not ask for a physical proof. I did my previous 90 days report online and the officer had digital access to it.
  21. LOL. Not allowed to vote AfD? In Germany? Seriously? What did you smoke this morning? German secret service spying on AfD members! What a crime! I understand how frustrating it must be for former STASI officers to be jobless, while their western opponents kept their badge and their gun, and are still doing their job. You may ask Putin to send you a few kilograms of polonium, awaiting the beer that will be distributed to celebrate the AfD's victory in Thuringia. It's no mystery that the ex-STASI officers prefer the BSW over the AfD for ideological reasons. And they can still blame the BKA for the poisoning. But please, keep on abstaining from casting your vote. It seems you don't value this right. Hence you don't deserve it.
  22. Interesting the comparison between east Germany and Sicily in Italy or Flanders in Belgium (but he list could be much longer). East Germans, after 50 years of Soviet ruling and despite the fact that they won back their freedom 35 years ago, are still ill prepared for life in a modern and dynamic society, like the one in which unification threw them in 1990. However, East Germans do not want a return to the old Soviet or Nazi times. They are not idiots, and they perfectly understand that both Russia and Nazism have nothing to offer them. All they want is attention. They hope that, after attention, money too will start flowing (in the form of subsidies) from Berlin and Frankfurt in their direction. And voting for the parties that the average west German finds particularly repelling, does attract attention. A lot of it. As someone said about D.J. Trump. "it's not that his bark is worse than his bite. It's that he feels an overwhelming desire to be petted". East Germans too feel an overwhelming desire to be petted.
