  1. Anybody seen around? 6v Mag lite bulbs?

    Thanks

Have a look in "true value" opposite Tesco's on Suk. road, I know they have a fair range of mag's but not sure if they have the lamps..

  2. I am 32 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I started buying baby clothes and some stuffs. I didn't know what to buy first as i am a young first time mommy-to-be..So, one of my net pal made a list for me and i bought some neccessary clothes like nappies, singlets, sleepsuits, and so on. Then i got confused abit again. Sometimes, i don't see much newborn size babygrows or sleepsuits in supermarkets like Tesco and Carefour, but i see easily in Emporium. But i can't buy everything from Emporium since i am a student and things from there are pricey. So, i picked 3-6 months size. My other half is saying to me like " So, your clothes will be so big for newborn baby"..is that true? Some of my net pals say some babies are big and they can wear 3-6 months size after a month or before that. Some of my foreign friends from my uni says " don't worry! Thai clothing sizes are always smaller than international standard "... I am not really sure about any... I just hope my baby won't be too small when it came out and would be able to wear the clothes i bought for her.

So any suggestion about buying for newborn baby? What kind of clothes are must have?

Not so much what to buy but where.....have a look in central, they have a good range and not too expensive.

  3. There are lots of gold shops in Pattaya, which ones sell gold bars at ten Baht weight? Does anyone know?

I would make a trip to China town in BKK, there seems to be "better" gold from known name shops there. Don't ask me which ones the wife sorts that out!

  4. Hi,

My wife and I went to the local Honda dealer this afternoon to look at a new Honda City and they have exactly what I want. But when I questioned the salesman about discount or any extras, they said they weren't giving any discounts at all and they weren't even giving the usual free first year insurance and then to top it off, they demanding at least 40% minimum down payment for any sales to a foreigner. I was pretty much shocked by the salemans attitude of "We don't have to discount anything because the car is new." I figured he was just a flunky so I asked for the manager figuring I might get a better deal from the manager, but when I spoke to her, her attitude is exactly the same. They are nice about it, but they made it quite clear. If I wanted to buy this car, then I am going to pay full price with zero extras. They aren't even offering the usual free insurance like everyone gives.

Are they just an odd ball dealer and I should go to another dealership or is it true, if you want a new 2009 I'm going to have to pay the extra to get it. I'm still in shock over the attitude of these salespeople. I have bought many cars when I was in the United States but I have never gone to a dealership and pretty much been told "Pay full price or there's the door.......GOODBYE!"

  5. Thought CON AIR was one of his better ones.

I enjoyed Bangkok Dangerous right through but the scene in the warehouse near the end could have been a lot shorter and I could happily have sat through a lot more of the nightclub scenes with the stunning coyote dancers and Aom (Panward Hemmannee)>>>

    panward-hemmanee-001.jpg

Anyone know what nightclub was used for filming?

Thought nudity was illegal in movies shown in Thailand? Surprised me to see it in this..they normally fuzz it over.

The whole of Bangkok Dangerous (1999) is on Youtube in 11 parts in Thai with English subtitles if you want to watch it>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUd_31m97Ns

They used the Caribbean club in Rachada which I though was strange caus they didn't even change the name of the club for filming. Great place to burn some cash for a night and yes the girls there are that cute :o

It was the only time ALL the crew (including the ones that weren't needed) arrived early and didn't have a problem doing the overtime!!!!!! I can't imagine why! I know some people ended up with complimentary membership too!

  6. there was a lot of rumours to that effect.

The producers had a plane standing by for him (primarily for insurance reasons) but he didn't leave.

There is also a claim by the film's producers that filming only stopped for about 6 hours and that during filming of certain sequences that day, they can claim to have fired the only shots during the coup d'etat.

I'll clarify that for you, I added it to IMDB!!!!! It was the armourer who coined the only shot thing (and, yes, I have the t shirt!!) The producers had nothing to do with any claims, but were stopped filming because of the scene we were doing involved a lot of gunfire and it was deemd wise not to carry on!!!!!!

Cage jumped on a plane to take his wife and kid to Korea and was back working the next day, as were we all!!

  7. Here's the update to the original post.........

Along he went on his due date and saw the powers that be in Jomtien and was told........You can have an extention of stay for 12 months as soon as your bank account reaches 800k (retirement visa) and we can see the money has come from overseas, until then just pay the overstay of 500 a day!!

One week later he returned with his bank book and letter from the bank showing the 800K, back the next day to collect a shiny new extention.

This was his 3rd extention and they said that because he had previous extentions the 800K didn't have to be in the bank for the 90 days prior, as long as it was there on the day he renewed!!!

    Go figure!!

  8. I was hoping that somebody would come along and give a correct translation of the Thai text passage that refers to average monthly income. Unable to read or write Thai I now resorted to an online dictionary (www.thai2english.com/dictionary) to break down what I considered to be the relevant text into individual words and then translate each word into English, and I came up with the following:

    Thai: เฉลี่ยทั้งป ไมนอยกวาเดือนละ ๔๐,๐๐๐ บาท

Literal English translation: average whole year not less than each month 40,000 Baht.

andyadam, if the immigration office where you applied (Jomthien?) cannot interpret this Thai text correctly you should perhaps go to the Bangkok immigration office and explain to them the problem created by your local office.

P.S. I see that the ThaiVisa forum software did not correctly reproduce the Thai text I copy/pasted from the Police Order. Here's a screen shot of the Thai text:

Thanks for that one Maestro, I'll investigate that option. I'm not a big fan of Jomtien, they seem to make it up as they go along!!!!

  9. The 400k option ended in 2006 except for those already using that system. The new requirement is 40k family income (can be husband/wife or both).

But that's for an extension of stay rather than the Visa it's self isn't it???? I know about the 2006 changes but in Sing, they wanted to see cash in the bank and /or earnings to a total of 400K and the cah can be anywhere not just in Thailand, I fell short on the cash in the bank by about 30K but showed earnings of a couple of million for the year and got the Visa no problem.

  10. FYI: 400k does not obtain a multi entry non immigrant O visa from Singapore anymore. But it would work in KL with the normal marriage certificate/id card/home register/birth certificate proof.

When did that one change!!???? I've got my last 3 non imms from there, the last one about 6 months or so ago, what are they asking for now if the 400K in the bank is no good??

As far as I was aware the 400K/40K thing was something they asked for but not a requirement for a Visa just a condition of an extension.

  11. ...Now my memory may be wrong but I seem to remember something about being over 50 to live with a Thai child doesn't require proof of income........??

That’s correct. Paragraph 7.17(5) of Royal Thai Police Order No. 606/2549 applies. Not all immigration offices may be familiar with this new rule (new since October 2006) and if Jomtien does not feel comfortable with it your friend may have to apply in Bangkok.

    Maestro

Thanks Maestro, very helpful and I know what you mean about Jomtien!!

  12. OK, here we go....

A good friend of mine has been here for just over 5 years on a retirement Visa. It has now come to extesion time again but due to a substantial investment he's now dropped below the 800K for the extension.

    So what are his options.....

    He's over 50

    Married to A Thai

    Has a daughter

3 years of extensions in his passport

no pension or income (hence the investment)

He can do the 400K (for an 'O') but reluctant to leave LOS.

Now my memory may be wrong but I seem to remember something about being over 50 to live with a Thai child doesn't require proof of income........??

    Ideas appreciated.

He cannot get an extension based on Marriage with 400,000 Baht . He, his Wife or both will need 40,000 Baht a month salary

There is an option of an extension if over 50 and the legal father of a Thai Child. A lot of Immigration officials are reluctant to do this but it is possible. Although the rule says no money needed , they do like to see something in your account.

Sorry Lite, I meant the 400K to apply for an 'O' in somewhere like Sing....Thanks for the info, at least it proves I'm not going mad!!!!!

  14. OK, I have used the eVisa 5 times now and it's great, payment is through Paypal so your CC is safe as no number is given to anyone else, you don't have to mess around with the visa touts at the border, they even have an eVisa window at poipet but don't bank on it being open, I avoid the queue (if there is one) by the usual 200baht method which stamps me in and out while I get a beer then back to LOS.

I've been doing border runs for 5 years now and this has cut the time down by at least an hour.

And just for info, my last run was a last minute decision to go on a sunday, I applied for the Visa on Saturday about 2pm and got it back the same day, how about that for service!!!!!!!!

  15. When I arrived in Thailand a little over 3 years ago 1 Baht of gold could be bought for 8000B and I had a spare 1.4M Baht lying around and I thought about buying gold but instead I just left it fester in a bank.

With hindsight that would have turned into a nice 2.8M if I had followed my thoughts, anyway as Thai gold doesn''t show any signs of slowing this thought has re-occured to me again.

Now I know in Chinatown in BKK it's possible to buy 1Baht, 5Baht, 10 Baht and 25Baht gold bars, does anyone know of any gold shops in Pattaya that sells these bars ?

I would rather buy bars as an investment rather than jewellery as the bars are cheaper per baht.

Also has anyone else invested in Thai gold ? How did you get off ? Though I beleive you would have to have been very stupid or unkucky to have lost money on it ?

If I were you, I'd make the trip to baners to get it if you're buying a lot, for the simple reason that some names are better than others to buy from. If you buy from a little known name it may give you problems when you decide to sell it.
