That a strange reply, since if they are renting by the day, they are a 'hotel'. Which leads me to believe that they don't think that you are their customer, but perhaps a private tenant. Personally I would call to confirm. A disappointing reply that will obviously affect their business.

How do you propose that it will affect your friend on a daily rental, as there are no charges for electricity etc? The cleaning thing I suspect, may be due to owners who rent their apartment out privately and whose tenants then expect the staff to take care of their problems, instead of the owner. But I honestly don't understand why via email they wouldn't state the cost. Who is it that replied back to you?

Don't be silly now. Some people might want their room cleaned and sheets changed every day. Another perhaps once a week and using the nearby laundromat in between. Why do we have so many whiners here, just looking for problems? I think if staying two weeks they should insist on a no charge cleaning once a week. That's reasonable. Monthly rental gets you once a week cleaning, so a two week rental should offer the same.
