I tried the True Money wallet

Too lazy to make a list of brick-and-mortars that nobody cares about. Everybody knows 7/11 and this is THE place where 99% of foreigners are likely to use their wallet. 7/11 are everywhere and their unique barcode top-up system is super practical. Anyways, feel free to make yourself useful and list the other options. -
Using a Wise virtual card

No hidden charges there. Wise does the exact same. It's common practice. On weekends banks always add a small fee to protect themselves from volatility when markets reopen on Monday. As far as I know there is no way around that. One way to avoid it is to convert money during the week (base currency to THB) and then use the THB to pay on weekends. Or stick to your True Money wallet on weekends and use cards from Monday to Friday. Anyways, you'll have the exact same "problem" with your Wise card if you do conversion during the weekend. -
It doesn't cost anything to use Wise or Revolut cards. But if you pay in THB via your card using your base currency: Wise --> interbank rate + small conversion fee (depends on the currency and day of the week - usually btw 0.5 and 0.7%) Revolut --> interbank rate + no conversion fee (except on weekends) Overall Revolut a cheaper when you pay by card.

Easier to find a 7/11. You could also go to a Lotus but then again easier to find a 7/11 nearby most of the time. Why these two specifically ? Would love to know why... Kind of a pain in the butt really. -
The article is about a business account apparently held by the dumbest human being on planet earth. Who cares ? Do you think someone is gonna try and scam you if you open a personal Revolut account so that they can have access to the 300$ that you're keeping on there to pay by card when necessary. Get the f3ck out of here :D :D :D

In order to open a Thai bank account as a foreigner you need to be on a retirement visa or have a work permit. Tourist visa, DTV, ED visa, etc... don't work anymore. If you have a Thai bank account, then you probably have a card too that you can use to top-up. I should have been more specific. -

Both Revolut and Wise offer the interbank exchange rate. But Wise charges a small fee for the exchange. Revolut doesn't. If I remember well the difference amounts to roughly 0.69% of the total amount spent. -
Got myself a True Money digital wallet. As a foreigner the only way to top it up is to go to a 7/11 with cash and do it there. 3000THB max per top-up. Of course it would be better if one could simply top-up with a CC but it is worth it nonetheless. Why? Well first of all I like to pay with my phone and carry less cash around. Then paying with your True Money wallet comes with a few perks (like 50% off Grab food x 3) Anyways, it could be better but it could also not exist and that would be a shame. Hope this helps...

Just wanted to share my experience with Wise and Revolut. Some of you might be trying to figure out which one is best so... Revolut is the cheapest for card payments (physical cards and virtual cards) Wise is the cheapest for money transfers. Both are not great for ATM withdrawals as they both have very low free withdrawal limits and then charge you quiet a bit. [my main bank offers the official Visa rate (central bank rate+1%) with no markup and no limits] Conclusion: Imo, you should open a free account with both Wise and Revolut.

If you wanna pay using a card, you should go with Revolut. Better rates for card payments. Revolut -- better for card payments Wise -- better for transferring money Both are terrible to withdraw money due to extremely low free withdrawal limits. -

Yeah the oblivion of my education. I will. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_Progress_Index Thailand ranks 71th. Top 10 ? Europe + Canada. Thai people ain't happier and certainly ain't more generous. -

Happier and less greedy ? 😄😄😄😄😄😄 Westerners are a billion times more generous than Thais. Probably our christian roots. Don't confuse collectivism with generosity. As for happiness, Thais don't know how to let go: they are stuck in the psychological prison of their archaic education. You're fooling yourself. Too much of a coward to accept the truth ? I don't know... -

Just ask young Thai people where they would like to get a job. Spoiler : the West. Why? Because Thailand sucks when you're Thai. No freedom, no justice, a frozen social ladder, corruption everywhere, etc... Hundreds of vids on this topic for free on Youtube. Thai people telling it as it is. Sorry but you've been living in a dream for 36 yrs. -

Submissive mentality. But hey... If you don't respect yourself, no reason for them to respect you. -

Fair enough. That's because you're a westerner. Most Thais would rather live in the West than in Thailand. Fairly easy to understand why... -

I don't need to. I can make up my mind by exposing myself to a roughly representative sample. My experience is that outside cities people are completely submissive. So you can't really know how they feel coz they are constantly censoring themselves as they've been taught to do so. It is true that interacting with these people can be a breeze if they speak english (most of the time they don't) but it doesn't say much about their inner lives. -

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. Being a taxi driver in BKK could be the definition of madness. Terrible income, stress all the time, terrible environmental conditions... No wonder some of them are flipping.- 99 replies
