  1. That's why I'll never invest a cent in this country. No rule of law. One day you have rights and the next you don't. He should hire some Wagner PMC guys to sort it out russian style :D
  2. Me neither. That's why I said unlikely. Imo there's no valid reason to have more trust in Wise or Revolut security. I'd be much more worried about having my connected wearables hacked or my card skimmed at a terminal. Far more likely. You can't pay with a card at 7/11unless you spend at least 200THB. At least that has been my experience so far. No minimum with True Wallet. Plus you get discounts and cashbacks. That's essentially predicting the future. There is no way for you to know when the exchange rate will be most favorable.
  3. You get these results because you're using the online converters. The Wise converter* doesn't take into account the conversion fee. It just shows you what you'd get at the current rate before the 0.5% fee is applied. You can't use it to compare Wise to Revolut. To do this properly you gotta initiate a real conversion via both apps. Before final validation, each app will run you through the total cost of the transaction. Online Wise converter: 100 EUR = 3550.62 THB Wise app real conversion rate (incl. fee): 100 EUR = 3526.21 THB That's a roughly 24 THB difference. * https://wise.com/gb/currency-converter/eur-to-thb-rate?amount=1000 ----------------------- You can't get spot exchange rate plus 0.5% on weekends as there are no rates on weekends. Markets are closed. Last time I used Wise on a weekend I paid a fee of 0,69%. That's roughly 0.2% more than the usual 0.5%.
  4. I think you're right. You can ask for it with Revolut but not with Wise. Wise will only send a card to your home address in Europe.
  5. It's the US as a nation with decency that is done and finished ! Whatever happens next, the country is gonna go through a painful process of self-humiliation for the next 4 fckin years. Haaaahahahahahaha !!! :D :D :D
  6. You're wrong. Right now ( Monday Jan 13th 2025 @ 20:48) Wise --- 100 EUR = 3525,71 THB Revolut --- 100 EUR = 3531,10 THB Revolut is cheaper (you're getting on extra 6THB) It's not much cheaper but it's cheaper nonetheless. So the rational course of action here is to use Revolut up to 1000EUR/GBP/USD and then Wise if needed. Wise also has extra fees on weekends. All banks do. Unless of course you want to get cash. In that case, I would say neither of them is a good option. Better find a bank with cards offering the Visa or Mastercard rate (1%) with no markup or withdrawal limit. Wise has the upper hand for transfers but that's it.
  7. the USA already have a king: it's called the dollar. That little mofo killed genius democracy a long time ago. A dictator not only to Americans but for the rest of humans as well.
  8. We might not be the main target but we are a target nonetheless and we will be more and more as more old westerners retire to Thailand (which is absolutely gonna happen). Otherwise they would have left foreign residents out of their new taxation scheme altogether. I think you're being too nice. They are being greedy and dumb, and it might very well backfire. The money will indeed end up in the Thai economy eventually but Thai banks won't benefit as much as they could have. Essentially the Thai gov is playing against its own banks in favor of foreign institutions. I wouldn't be too surprised if this is rolled back at some point in the future.... We'll see I guess.
  9. It ain't a deal breaker for me. Just an annoyance really. It's still great to be able to avoid the 5% fee on foreign cards on Grab and get a couple of deals / discounts here and there. I just don't get why they don't make the experience as smooth as possible for everyone. It's possible but unlikely. True Money is part of the Ascend Corporation. These large companies have usually solid partnerships with a whole bunch of top players in cybersecurity and cloud services.
  10. Not my problem. Ask a mod.
  11. I didn't know that. Interesting. It is indeed pretty good news for neobanks. Kind of a dumb decision on the part of the Thai government imo. But yeah it changes the entire logic one should follow if living here more than 180 days.
  12. I wish this f3cking country could roll back the entire restrictive garbage thing on local bank accounts... Such an annoyance. Frankly they could at least let people with DTV and Ed visas open accounts freely. The entire thing is moronic... Same goes for True Money wallet. Why not accept foreign cards for top-up purposes ? I dunno...
  13. Very dumb and insensitive way of reasoning. I wish you to end up in the same kind of crap. You might learn a thing or two about decency.
  14. Revolut is the cheapest only for card payments. I don't know many people out there spending $1000 a month on CC alone in Thailand. They probably exist but most of them do so using thai banking services as expats. The long-term tourist / digital nomad type uses mainly cash and shouldn't use Wise or Revolut to withdraw anyways. Imo the best configuration without thai accounts and cards is to use the best service you can find for each type of transaction knowing that Thailand remains very much a cash society.
  15. Weird.... Well now you know it will be the same with Wise 😄
  16. Pretty evident you have no idea what you're talking about 😄 Get lost...
  17. Thai bank not foreign bank. In order to get a thai bank account you need to have a retirement visa or a working permit these days (believe me I tried twi weeks ago). So tourist visa, DTV, Ed visa, is a no-no unless you use an agent as suggested by scuba. Also you need to present additional documents to top up with anything else but cash.
  18. Misleading. Doesn't work that way if you ain't on a retirement visa or employed with a work permit.
  19. It's a standalone app. If you're Thai or working here or retired here and can provide the required documents you'll be able to top-up your account via bank tranfer, card, kiosk or cash. Otherwise only cash @ 7/11, Family Mart, Fresh Mart, Lotus and True shops. Topping up is free. So if you give 1000thb to the 7/11, you'll get 1000thb added to your wallet. I wouldn't use the wallet otherwise 🙂
  20. The problem ain't Revolut, it's you. Revolut - just like Wise - has tremendous reviews all over the internet. "I couldn't close because I didn't fill in the required documents" lol
  21. Well it's pretty easy. Don't go above the limit. I don't know about you but card payments represent a very small percentage of my monthly payments. Most of them are in cash. No way I'm reaching the Revolut monthly limit. And if I do for some unexplainable reason, I'll switch to Wise.
  22. It happened to me only once with Grab. That horrid company charges a 5% fee on foreign cards. So if you're using Grab pay with a True Wallet instead. Food Panda doesn't do that btw, nor does Bolt... I only use cards online. Irl I use True Wallet or cash so I couldn't say.
  23. Doesn't matter when you convert your base currency in thb, you will pay a conversion fee with Wise and not with Revolut. It's a small difference but a digference nonetheless. As for buying thb when it's supposedly cheap, that's speculation. You might buy at a favorable rate or you might get f3ckd. Trying Forex is a risky business imo. Overall what I first stated is correct. Revolut for cc payments, Wise (or maybe IBKR) for transfers and none of the above for atm withdrawals.
