  1. cheap .................................... good pick one
  2. family is probably worth between 50 and 100,000,000 USD. Plus connections for life, money for life, power for life, etc.... I can't worry about her "tough transition" that requires therapy.
  3. not sure if mentioned, but why wake up to a colony of ants and a billion other animals eating your food.
  4. For her sake, I'm absolutely hoping she was super high, on lsd, mushrooms, licking frogs, hanging out with bats, popping pills, you name it....people will then at least understand. I've done and said soo many idiotic things drunk back when smartphones weren't a thing. No excuse, but you can move on knowing you only half-remember things.
  5. Dear Ex of Nate, I am very hansum. I have many, many baths and take a baht usually once a day. I know good 30 baht noodle places and my bicycle just got tuned up. I'm 88 but my best friends at the pub/bar/hangout/club/(cool words) tell me I don't look a day over 39. I feel like I'm 19. OK, I don't. anyhow, yo, yo, hit me up on myspace or aol or whatever the kool kids use now. I've been in Thailand for over 39 years and I know almost 33 words that my ex-gf says she sort-of understood. oh, and I know good place cheap beer. please bring money. YT won't bring you your dreams and money isn't everything. We can swim in the moat around ChiangMai, I have some homemade swimsuits. memories.....
  6. When in Israel I tell them they must speak English, nothing is Kosher, and only menus are in Arabic. I demand this!!!!! You really have to be either on drugs or a next-level moron to not have any common sense. Why do they get so mad at me? I don't understand. I tell them the USA gives them lots of money so all Americans can create any rules they want.
  7. It's not really about the money. Seems like it's bigotry. Feels like it. That feels bad. Most of us like being here and there's that false hope of being part of the family. Becoming Thai. Embraced like a local. Loved like a son from the mountains of Chiang Mai. Then reality slaps us in the face and we say, "But I've been here 30 years and helped 39 billion Thais!!!!" Farang!!! 300. Thai. 20. You pay. dreams shattered.
  8. In my case I think it has to do with anxiety. I check my bank account, investments, real estate on Zillow, and get a round number. Figure out some quick math, times it by 12, times that by whatever......look in the mirror, wonder if that will cover me until I die. Then I have a budget. for the last 10 years in Thailand, it's been fine.... When prices go up, this could be the beginning of much more. That takes away from the number. The big number. Of course, down the road maybe social security is still a thing and all this anxiety means nothing because the extra SS money should easily be enough to cover a few percentages here and there. It's not really a blip since I've seen the crazy inflation worldwide and Thailand is still renting out hotel rooms at pretty cheap prices save some big cities (not important to me at this time). it's not a top-5 concern, however. not now. talk to me when a small cup of rice and some pork costs 300 baht instead of 50-60. I don't see that happening soon because it will destroy the masses......I don't know if minimum wage is still 300 baht a day, but I guess that needs to go way higher first...or not. who knows. if my budget gets tighter, the number of sick buffalos I can help will go down, surely.
  9. quick add: I did stay THREE nights in Laos. Of course, I used to be the immediate over and back, but a year ago I heard at least two nights. So I stayed three.
  10. No panic; I'm just giving you a heads-up about a possible added complication. I've lived in Thailand for almost a decade, but it won't be until next year when I'm able to retire. I've done the low-paying teaching jobs, ED Visa, Tourist Visas, never more than two border crossings in a calendar year via visa-exempt stamp, almost on my third passport, current one is almost full (I know, it's in the system, but I do think a fresh one might make things easier), and I have felt a long delay a few times before as if I did something wrong. I figured I would have to explain that this is my last one for 2025, don't worry, I'll get a visa next time. 60+30 is all I needed, and the online system isn't as easy as in years past.....I knew I was taking a risk. I had 20k in my wallet, bank copies, addresses, phone numbers, and, I hate to say this, but I'm white, fit, no tats, etc.....hopefully not too triggering. Passport is blue, some people wear red hats. When I left Thailand, nothing. That was a good sign, I thought. Coming back, pretty empty, the guy says to turn around and talk to an officer. No worries. I go back, figure it out (really only one office facing a separate check-in area), and wait for him to finish with another foreigner. We only spoke in Thai. I said this is normal, I'll go back, get many offers from schools, come back and get a Non-O and blah, blah, blah....He asked if I have a gf, if I'm working, what am I doing, and we joked for a bit. He stamped me for 60 days. Took less than three minutes. I do think it's worth a post because two "should" be fine and I was slightly surprised two meant meeting. I hope it was just me, full passport, safety check, and I'm the super rare case. Of course I have no idea how often this happens. I still am very curious what happens if you get rejected. Do you have to repurchase a Laos Visa? probably. I planned to then fly to Udon, or maybe talk to the Big Boss and see if I can stay in Laos until xxxx date ,and then I'm OK. I'm in a province where you can get a Non-O without leaving Thailand (school/agency pays more) and that should give me until next April. Never fun, good luck all.
