If the only reason he did an overstay was to avoid the war, then that's great. Hope someone gives him the 20k and an airline ticket, or perhaps he can get it himself as the ultimate safety precaution (I know he was begging for food, but, well, you gotta have that 20k to avoid prison). I think he should have kept moving and gone to Issan, some super small place, maybe even worked at a private school teaching English. I've seen this twice. Once a Russian who couldn't speak English was teaching English, and once a guy on an overstay was teaching under the table. So I'm sure it can be combined. haha. 8 months is pretty long in Koh Phangan. I would guess he could have done 2-3 years in Issan somewhere. But when I see this 99-year lease thing, I think of my friend's usufruct, and I saw him lose it all....... Every time you meet someone or do anything for that matter out of your normal routine........you gotta think, go with your gut, and breathe. even a few years ago I would pay 100 baht to my Thai bank to print out statements showing 20k. I thought this was still in place. anyhow. Now the "funny" thing is I talked to many people from other countries with fake bank statements. It's impossible to check. You can't call Russia and ask to confirm a bank statement. lol. I've seen this at least a few times. cash would make more sense, or something better. 20k baht is nothing for 60 days. 100k makes more sense. Tourist visa makes no sense if the border stamp is also 60 days. Backtracking a little bit...... if tourist visa and you are in your home country, then maybe the Thai embassy can check it a little better (can tell if the bank statements look real) or there's a more reliable way to check if they really have the money. Anyhow, they are trying. plane ticket, 20k....better than nothing for LOS
