Ah, thank you for your passionate treatise: part lecture, part Lonely Planet review, with just a dash of misplaced superiority. Let’s clear the air first: yes, Thailand does have some wonderfully educated individuals. They’re just tragically outnumbered. The Thai education system, bless it, ranks somewhere between "woeful" and "where dreams go to die." When a country spends more on road medians than on school reform, it shows. Literacy may be widespread, but critical thinking? Still on vacation in Koh Phangan. As for the endless amount of idiots who wear masks and no helmets, well all I can say for them is that natural selection will ensure they are eventually no longer around as a source of visual pollution. As for your sudden obsession with credentials Mahidol, PwC, Toyota, cute attempt at gatekeeping. But here's the thing: I don't need to don a lab coat or work in a grey cubicle to understand a culture. I lived it, breathed it, and, crucially, observed it without being blinded by the rose-tinted glasses of "farang savior complex." Now, let’s talk cities. Bangkok, with its tangled mess of wires, choking traffic, and surprise sewage aromas, is certainly an experience. But if it's cleanliness, modernity, and general sanity you’re after, Almaty says hello from its tree-lined boulevards, mountain views, and streets that don’t smell like fermented durian. It’s the kind of place where you don’t need to shower twice a day just to feel human. And best of all, pretty much the entire population have rejected masks and all you see are normal human faces walking the streets of Almaty, unlike the zombie-fest that is Bangkok And finally, your lecture on Kazakhstan’s GDP would make a decent footnote in The Economist, if only it weren’t so irrelevant. You’re mistaking national GDP breakdowns for lived experience. Spoiler: people in Almaty smile too, eat well, and manage not to scream at each other over motorbike noise 24/7, nor do they muzzle like brain-dead robots. So yes, I'm quite content with my YouTube channel, my observations, and my ability to form a sentence without sounding like I’m defending a thesis on expat moral superiority. You, however, might consider taking your next monologue to a TED Talk audition, just make sure it's not at the Bangkok sewage treatment facility. Now, go and put your surgical mask on like a good little farang to show all the brainwashed Thais how morally superior you are to all the other awful farangs.

And it's not an insane claim to say GDP per capita in Kazakhstan is higher than Thailand, that is a fact, you clown. You just love calling people stupid, even though you are the biggest idiot in this thread. Besides, I don't even live in Kazakhstan, nor do I think it's the greatest country on earth; it is, however, a cleaner, more efficient, and stronger country than Thailand is. You've never even been here; the only knowledge you have of the country is from Borat. That's the same as me making assumptions about Thailand based on having watched The Hangover 2 movie.

Oh yea, because Thailand has a glowing human rights record. Honestly, you sound like a PR spokesperson for the Thai government - you probably even have a shrine of the king in your room and pretend to suck him off every night. You sound as brainwashed as the Thais, you probably never leave because you know anywhere else in the world, people will pay no attention to you. Much easier for you to stay in a country where women are desperate enough to feign interest in you in order to extract your valuable western cash.

Thailand never stopped masking, yet it seems to be one of the few countries in the world that is reporting high numbers of cases. Yet like the dumb idiots they are, they still insist on masking up at all times. The rest of the world is totally maskless and has been for a long time - people walk freely in Europe, while Thais and some deranged Expats continue to roam the streets like muzzled dogs.
-
And Kazakhs are much more interesting than Thais. The average Thai has nothing interesting to say, nor do they have opinions on things; they have spent their whole life being conditioned to always follow and never question. Their insane mask-wearing habits are a manifestation of this extreme docility and absence of critical thinking. There is a softness and vacuity that runs right to the core of the Thai psyche.
-
It's more advanced than Thailand - higher GDP per capita, cleaner cities, and a young population that isn't full of cowards. By contrast, Thailand is full of people who would lick rocks if the government told them to. The only advanced thing about Thailand are those utterly soulless, copy-and-paste shopping malls they all flock to so they can be served by other brainless cowards in face masks.

I am in Kazakhstan at the moment, heading to Portugal soon. I run a moderately successful YouTube channel, so I have the freedom to go where I want, pretty much. I travel a lot and can honestly say that Thailand is so far away from being the Land of Smiles that it may as well be in another universe. In Kazakhstan, like nearly every other country in the world, masks are nowhere to be seen, all age groups are walking freely, showing their faces, exuding confidence, laughing, smiling, enjoying life as it should be. Thailand, by contrast, continues to look like a dystopian medical dictatorship with all those wimps moping around in their ridiculous face masks. Everyone here seems perfectly healthy too, further underlining the sheer and futility of mask-wearing. I genuinely think Thailand is the mentally weakest society on earth; at least North Koreans have the excuse of not being able to access the outside world.

Report New Covid-19 Variant NB.1.8.1 Gains Ground in Thailand

Don't care. Man up. You're not dead. Sometimes you get a little bit sick, that's the trade-off you make for living a free life. If you don't like it, then wrap yourself in a giant latex condom or consign yourself to the basement until you die. -

Exactly - these figures do not justify the seemingly endless hysteria around covid in Thailand. There are at least several articles daily about covid, all accompanied by ridiculous imagery designed to inculcate fear and anxiety into an already psychologically broken populace. The fact this relentless hysteria is so effective in moulding the behaviour of Thai people speaks volumes about what kind of society it is.- 68 replies

It is a psychologically broken society full of hypochondriac cowards. How anyone can continue to justify this insane and relentless obsession is beyond me and just speaks volumes about the level of intellect among many of the Expat community. So terrified to leave Thailand that they find ways to justify this absurd display of mass psychosis.

They still are missing out on in-person learning. Many schools in Bangkok have reverted back to online teaching. -

Yep, you've hit the nail on the head. A large systematic stud on the harmful effect of masking children found the following: Mask wearing may also impact mental health and social-emotional well-being by limiting the ability to accurately interpret emotions, particularly in younger children. There is also evidence that masks hinder social-emotional learning and language/literacy development in young children. Children with special-education needs and autism may be disproportionately impacted by mask requirements as they rely heavily on facial expressions to pick up social cues. Misinterpretation of facial expressions increases anxiety and depression in individualsisinterpretation of facial expressions increases anxiety and depression in individuals https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38050026/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKhVcZleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF6RDlENWZESmV5elowQngxAR6xDsjSd-H9NJru34dNJitgAygF4OHJTtsAWIPhwkUncFJngWHURFNuuQf3uA_aem_Qdkh9N8bwFaLro_fF8EX8g nterpretation of facial expressions increases anxiety and depression in individuals- 82 replies

Health COVID-19 Cases in Thailand Surge to Ten Times Flu Levels

Those poor, abused kids - they will never know a life without masks. The only human emotions they understand are sadness and fear, visible via the eyes. Remember, these kids are FORCED to wear masks and have been for over 5 years now. This is pure insanity and if you still justify it then you are sick freak.- 82 replies

How about she stops being a parthetix coward and not just wear her face mask in the first place - the mandate for 7-11 employees got dropped ages ago. These slaves would lick rocks if the government told them to. Expecting many to downvote this, but don't care - Thailand is way less friendly than your average Latin American country.
-
Lol I definitely won't complain. I got the flu in Jan and just rested for a few days like a normal person. That's life. Wearing a mask your whole life is just cowardice. If you want to be healthy, then eat well, exercise regularly, and get good sleep. I do all those things, wearing a mask is just lunacy and sucks the joy out of life. That's why only wimps and losers wear them. Walking around shopping malls in masks looking like a depressed dog is a pitiful existence. Do that in most countries and people will think you're weird, but sadly in Thailand mental illness has been normalised.
-
I have no issue with people who logically make use of masks when pm25 levels are high. Fair enough. My criticism is aimed more towards the people who wear them because they live in a constant state of panic and anxiety over covid. I particularly don't like it when restaurant staff wear them, it spoils the atmosphere and makes me feel like I am in a hospital. I think this is fair enough.
-
Literally just explained why, and that's the only response you can generate. Like talking to a brick wall. They are creepy, weird, ugly, symbolic of medical tyranny, and usedas a proxy for morality by aholes who thrive off taking the moral high ground over others in order to find meaning in their empty and worthless lives.

Breathing Issues or Discomfort Communication Barrier, particularly for those who have poor hearing Psychological and Social Concerns Reduced oxygen intake Diminished confidence and self-esteem due to mask dependency There are so many other things, too. Not that I think covid is anything to worry about, but the reason people wear them is to protect themselves from it. Thus, it is hilarious that East Asia is currently experiencing a huge surge in cases despite being the only part of the world that has a high percentage of the population wearing masks.
-
Not on about when it was mandated, I wore one when it was mandated. It's 2025 now though - does more harm than good. Move on.
-
They are for wimps - they create a miserable atmosphere, impede communication, and are bad for the environment. Visual and physical pollution. Normal people appreciate seeing human faces. Not hard to understand.
