  1. *sheesh*

Yes, there are some legitimate questions (and fears). However, anyone wanting/needing a GUARANTEE before they slap $25k on the table IS NOT ELITE.

Sad to say that 99.99998% of this forum is NOT rich. They're NOT elite. They're far from it.

Drive a top of the line BMW, Mercedes, Lexxus, Range Rover? No? (Do you have driver? No? ######, many don't even tip the taxi driver more than a few baht.)

ELITE people don't FINANCE cars. And they don't "nickle & dime" negotiate over the price of their new BMW either.

    ***

It's not that I haven't been poor. I have. I've worked at McDonalds. I've taken student loans and lived off of them. I've gone for weeks eating on noodles or macaroni & cheese. And I've ridden the public bus back and forth to the university.

    But those days are over.

    ***

If you don't pay more that $25k a a year in TAXES then you're not elite.

Shut up before you humiliate yourselves more.

You might think you're asking intelligent questions, but, in my opinion, you're just advertising that you're NOT elite. Elite = very special. Elite = not common. Elite = priviledged.

Yes, I know, everyone has questions. But seriously, MOST LIKELY YOU'RE NOT ELITE! Don't lie to yourself and think that you're in that category of superstars/"moveers & shakers". 99.999999999% of people in the world aren't elite... and 99.9998% of the farrang who live or frequent Thailand aren't.

If you go to Nana then you're not elite. ELITE people go to much more (OUTRAGEOUSLY) expensive establishments. It's just that simple. (Sorry to burst your bubble. But we're talking ELITE here, the upper-crust of society! Do you expect to see people who were knighted by the Queen of England in Nana? Or bitching about Thakskin's lack of guarantee for the $25k?

Compare and contrast yourself and others to Hollywood superstars, WallStreet Stock brokers, etc. worrying that there might not be a "guarantee" of the future? *gag!* Come on! Truly "ELITE" people wouldn't allow ANYTHING, including the entire Kingdom of Thailand flushing itself down the toilet, to suck them down too. Elite people have alternatives; they have exit strategies; they have investments; they have wealth; they have connections; they have VIP status without the stupid "elite card" itself.

    [ / soapbox mode: OFF ]

Actually a very good post which underlines the fact that the card is not aimed at the " elite".Like chopsticks says people that are elite would not by the card anyway they would expect certain privalleges regardless. The " by invatation only" is an obvious marketing ruse and carrots are being dangled now, by the week, to make it more attractive as in land ownership etc..

The comment about rich (elite ) people not nickle and dimimg is a generalisation. I know at least 3 self made millionaires who haggle over every penny. No the true "elite" wouldnt i.e. the mega rich or royalty , but again this is not aimed at them.

  2. does anybody have a phone number to contact these these people, really like to see what they got to say, i'm not rich or anything just plain middle class family, but have a few mil to spend if its worth it, worst to the worst i'll just sell my Alfa Romeo and get a toyota instead.

www.thailandelite.com there you go tomy , someone just posted this in the visa section.

  3. I thought it was government run and not a private company as such.Lets face it does not have to be commercially viable as long as it pushes business and money towards certain establishments owned by certain people. The taxpayer will foot the bill if it dont work.

Regardless if you have money that alone is enough to get you discounts and perks, why do you need a card , your money is your bargaining card.

  4. Lets put this into perspective please! 2 british people are arrested and for some reason we are suddenly a criminal country , please. Ive lost count of the number of times ive read about a Thai pimp operating a vice ring in a foreign country being jailed.
    parryhandy, were you involved?

Invovled in what ? Please explain ?

  5. These are snippets taken from a 2000 article by alcohol concern.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/743878.stm

Alcohol Concern estimates alcohol abuse is costing Britain £3.3bn a year.

The biggest impact is on industry - £2.8bn is lost through sickness, unemployment and premature death.

But the Alcohol Concern study also found it cost the NHS £200m to treat drink-related illness.

John Ryan, spokesman for the British Association of Accident and Emergency Medicine and an accident and emergency specialist at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, said emergency departments dealt with a huge amount of cases resulting from acute intoxication and chronic alcoholism.

He said: "I cannot underestimate the importance of alcohol in the workload of emergency departments - we would be out of business if it was not for alcohol."

Road accidents where drink is a factor cost £189m, and criminal activity linked with alcohol abuse is responsible for another £68m.

The report highlights a string of damning statistics about the impact of alcohol abuse.

Marriages where one or both partners have a drink problem are twice as likely to end in divorce as those not affected by alcohol.

Between 60 and 70% of men who assault their partners do so under the influence of drink.

Forty-one per cent of violent crimes, including assaults and muggings, are committed by somebody who has been drinking.

The report says alcohol abuse is a growing problem among children.

In the 11 to 15 age group, the average weekly consumption of alcohol among those who drink has almost doubled to 9.9 units in the last two years.

After drinking, one in seven of 16 to 24-year-olds had unprotected sex, one in five had sex they later regretted, and 10% could not even remember if they had had sex the previous night.

Forty per cent of 13- and 14-year-olds were "drunk or stoned" when they had their first sexual experience.

Eric Appleby, Alcohol Concern director, said: "Given this catalogue of problems, we would like to see the Government's promised National Alcohol Strategy introduced as a matter of urgency."

Among the proposals Alcohol Concern wants to see adopted are:

drink-drive limit cut from 80 milligrams to 50mgs of alcohol per 100mls of blood

    police given wider breath-testing powers

bans on the sale of glass bottles in pubs

    high-profile annual alcohol awareness campaign

better alcohol education for young people

more money for treatment and counselling

training for staff selling and serving alcohol

This is just in the uk alone in the year 2000 , multiply this by x amount for all the other countries in the world and then ill tell you the startling fact that compared with tobacco alcohol is small fry.

Ive just looked at the Australian government site concerning alcohol and tobacco.

Tobacco use is the major cause of drug- or alcohol-related deaths in Australia. In 1998, around 19,000 deaths were attributable to the use of tobacco, accounting for 80% of all drug- or alcohol-related deaths. The Burden of Disease and Injury in Australia study estimated that almost 10% of the total burden of disease in Australia in 1996 was attributable to tobacco smoking. The burden of disease methodology combines years of life lost due to premature death with years of living with disability.

  6. Years ago i used to always be in Pubs , (drinking like a man), in fact i was just another piss head, then i met a girl that was into smoking dope, we used to have a joint or 2 in her car, then go to a pub, but instead of doing all my money getting pissed, i used to drink orange juice. I could see when i was not drinking what a bad drug Alcohol really is, but of course because the majority of people drink alcohol it is accepted as being normal and not really a drug.......

I have tried to get a debate going on a few threads about the use of Alcohol as the drug of peoples choice, many of the people that would have this kid lifed off in Prison, will in fact be drinking Alcohol on a daily basis, using their drug of choice..............

I think younger people will look at the older generation stumbling and staggering through life, and think that they should also have a choice to take whatever drug they want, not only Government Taxed Drugs that kill millions.

Do i feel more at ease with some guys smoking a joint, or with people drinking Alcohol..............No contest. I have seen so much violence fuelled by Alcohol, i have never seen that with grass or hash. People do not use Alcohol because they are thirsty, they use it because it is a mind altering substance, just like the kids do when they use their drugs, yet these Alcohol users will happily see a Kid get life imprisonment, while they moralise into their Beer Glass about how he is such a bad person.

Absolutely spot on . Ive lost count of the number of lives ive seen ruined through alcohol.I used to be a factory supervisor and one christmas we had a works get to gether. One of the guys was the nicest blokes i had working under me. Polite , hard working , trustworthy, wife ,2 kids etc..We basically did a pub crawl and towards the end of the night this lad got into an argument with a woman bar owner. She basically embarresed him infront of everybody , terrible customer management for a woman , where woman are usually better for diffusing difficult situations. We proceeded to leave the bar thinking no problems we move on.This lad then ran back to this woman grabbed a pint glass and ramed it in her face. All alcohol induced. The lad got 3 years in prison ( rightly so) and the woman had to have extensive surgery on her face.A ll because of alcohol.

Last night i went for a birthday drink at a friends restaurant here in Thailand. Horrific crash occured outside while were eating. One guy drunk on a motorbike riding the wrong side of the road smashes head on into another motorbike carrying a man and 12 year old boy.Broken arms legs and hips all round. 3 more lives ruined through alcohol.

  7. What the ###### has this got to do with ole 'Big ears' bringing in some dancing pills?

Lay off the Booze lads, its a depressant and makes people violent and unreasonable, smoke some dope, you will calm down.

    No wonder kids take drugs.

Funny old world.I used to live in a dodgy pub for a while as a friend of mine had to start at the bottom of the pub management chain.I can honestly say it got to the stage were i could count on one hand the number of people i regularly had contact with that didnt take drugs. The change in attitudes towards drink was the most enlighting aspect. The majority of these regular drug users who mostly were hard working family men, looked down with disgust at people who coundnt handle their drink and drank to much.

I totally agree with you about alcohol Beggs but what saddens me more is the death, misery and lives that are constantly being ruined , not through drugs, but by the fact that some drugs are illegal. This ridiculous war on drugs should be stopped .Many of these "lads" in this pub had a very colourful history invovling drinking and then proceeding to beat the crap out of anyone who upset them. They discovered drugs like pot, ectasy and cocaine and became normal people who avoided trouble at every opportunity.I t got to the stage where i could predict when there would be violence because there were no drugs around so people would be just drinking.

Im not condoning drug use because it is illegal and do not partake myself but the evidence i have witnessed is that like anything in life if you abuse something it will ruin your life.People that ruin their lives through misuse of illegal drugs will just find another way to ###### up their lives if they cannot get these drugs.

  8. Uk still a ###### sight safer in general than USA or even Thailand for that matter.

Murder rate in Australia one of the highest, Thailand has highest road deaths by a long way. There may be a few tea leaves but I'll take that over School kids with guns any boring day.

Now you were saying about Australia?

    :D

The one thing that stands out about that list is SPAIN. I would never have guessed that they would be in the top 10.What are the reasons for this anybody know ?

  9. In the Ayutthya period the Brit's set up a wool clothing business there, aiming to sell the clothing for local consumption. No more needs to be said :o

And before during and after that period the British colonised and took over 30 present day countries. Yeah real dumb asses us Brits.

Lets put this into perspective please! 2 british people are arrested and for some reason we are suddenly a criminal country , please. Ive lost count of the number of times ive read about a Thai pimp operating a vice ring in a foreign country being jailed. :D

  10. Cant be done at the friendship bridge because i asked the guy at immigration.I basically thought im stamped out of Thailand why cant i walk across the road and come back in save going over the bridge.Asked the Thai immigration and received a very curt NO.

  11. Hey Begs---------  really more expensive in Thailand.  Wow.  What is the price of one pill in UK vs one pill in Thailand.

Just wondering cause I am not familiar with street dope prices.

    Daveyo

Ectasy pill in the uk would cost you about 3 quid. if you bought the amount this guy was carrying it would probably be even cheaper.

Found with the same quantity in the Uk the kid would not spend more than 3 years in jail if that..

  12. If they ask why you refuse, just tell them what i said. I have been scanned since my departure and my luggage has security tags on it and it is not tampered with, so therefore i refuse the scan. Then say Khop Khun and get out of there and mind your own business.

No Mr/mrs customs officer you cannot search my bag cos Dave Yo says you cant alright. Khop Khun :o:D

  13. Boy,The brits must really have some laws protecting the rich,do you still have debtors prison?

In the USA if he hocked his house and never made a payment or filled up his credit cards and then left, tough shit.

Hocking the house is a secured loan and they took that as a surity that he would pay or they would have the house and not loose any money.

If he topped up from the cash on the credit cards, there is nothing they could do legaly except harass him for the money as it is not secured, some folks run their credit cards up and worry about it and listen to banks and hock the house to pay them off, then if times get tougher they lose the house because it is a secured loan, no financial manager will ever advise getting a secured loan to pay off an unsecured one, they have no recoarse as they gave you the credit cards because they trusted you,..

Its exactly the same in england . Credit cards are unsecured loans so unless you have lied to them to obtain one (fraud) they have no powers to actually make you pay.Any unsecured loans under 20000 pounds with any particular bank , credit card company etc.. they will not even investigate. It is not worth the cost when alls said and done you may have spent it anyway.

P.s they have no way of finding you in england never mind Thailand if you are not on the electoral role.

I lived with a friend for a while who went bankrupt after his business failed .Before he actually went under he basically took as much as he could credit wise because it does not matter what the amount is.He spent 3 mins in bankruptcy court and that was it.For 3 years he can only earn so much without telling the courts and cannot have a bank account etc.. and then after he can start again. He actually became landlord of a pub straight after bankruptcy but everything was in his girlfriends name.

  14. It will be your phone line .My connection was ok for months then suddenly started dropping off like yours after minutes.I checked the phone line and it was cackling as was our neighbours so knew it wasnt the wires at our home.Got the phone engineer out who was an areshole who told me to move house if i wanted to connect to the internet.Wasnt having any of his bullshit ie you live to far from the exchange etc.. and he checked the area out and fixed it.The cheek of the man was unreal you pay your monthly phone rental charges etc., you want a phone line that doesnt cackle.

He went round the area with his men and fixed it and phoned me to say if i have any more problems to move house   .Yeah right.... :o

  15. I think the wests democracys are excellent but its leaders are pitiful. Reading that resume of bush makes my skin crawl . Theres no way on earth a man like that should be allowed to become president of the usa.Leaders should be of the utmost integrity in my opinion and lead by example not by twisting and bending rules to suit there needs. All the leaders show people nowadays is that the only way to achieve anything is through violence and if youve got money you can do what you like.

Just think how many people have died in the war on drugs over the years and now there is an ex crack head in the whitehouse .What do you think the people who died fighting for freedom in ww2 would think of that.

  16. No there are forms to fill in .The thai person needs to obtain a border pass which im not sure where they get officially .I took my girlfriend to vientianne about 1 1/2 years ago and used one of the visa shops near the bridge. They got her a border pass no problem within 30 mins and she does not have a passport only an id card. Some one on here will tell you where thais get the border pases from.

Yes they were fees i think around 200 baht but not sure as it was a while ago.
