I had a converation with a german tonight who assures me any farang can own , outright , upto 1 rai of land .Is this correct ?
Perhaps the German tells everyone this as he's looking to 'sell' a Rai to anyone that swallows the tale. It's cheap because blah, blah, blah...
Just another bullshit merchant propping up the bar
No hes actually a very nice chap considering he is not only German but a policeman as well.He has been coming here for many years now and for some reason had got it into his head that he could own 1 rai of land.I was pretty sure he was wrong but wanted to find out for his sake because i know for a fact his thai wife has been seeing another bloke while the poor blokes been here so he is being misinformed and made to look a stupid about many things .So for his sake maybe in the future it may stop him being tricked somehow.
-
Are you just looking for somebody to support your view point? I don't know the answer, but I have the impression that you will now go back to this chap and say, "Somebody else agreed with me, therefore what I say must be true."
Ask someone who is qualified, rather than post your question on a world-wide basis, just seeking the answer that you require.
Scouse.
The reason i posted the question on here is because i know there are people who regularly contribute on this board that know the answer.People that deal with company formation, visa regs etc.And also people mainly the administrators who will no doubt have come across this question before.
So please scouse less of the patronising replies. You dont know me but am not the sort of person who is just seeking the answer i require.I am seeking the right answer.
I get the impression you are the sort of person that feels the need to butt into someones conversation to make yourself heard for the sake of it without actually saying anything of value.
-
Exactly what i said but he would not have it.I thought if you owned a business you where entitled to own 1 rai of land outright but as for any farang without a business it was impossible.
-
Can anybody tell me if it is possible for any old farang ie a person without a business , special privaleges etc. to own land in thailand 100 percent.
I had a converation with a german tonight who assures me any farang can own , outright , upto 1 rai of land .Is this correct ?

Indo-Siam,
Pretty underwhelming evidence of any recent initiative to change the VOA program. By the way, why do you continue to characterize anybody that uses or defends the multiple 30 day VOA program as "marginal types" or undesirables? Did you not state previously that at some time in the past you yourself utilized this privilege and do not have anything against people who use it today? Now you are attacking people that defend the continuation of this policy because you question the fact that their motives are not aligned with political activists and NGOs. Have you completely lost the plot?
quite agree. As for the remark about not crying foul about the rights of these political activists and NGOS what do you expect with the attitude you get on here ? Of course we are going to think of ourselves first when some of us have families and children to consider, wouldnt you.I could think of many things i consider about the behaviour of the Thai government with regards to freedoms and human rights which i find obscene but i am not going to constantly post on here about it because i know what the answer will be ."Its not your country they can do what they like blah blah blah...." brown nose brown nose. Even if the people saying it know #### well some of the behaviour is immoral.

Dear Parry Handy,
Yes you are correct with your post.
Your quote :-
They caught Hambil before this clampdown didnt they ? Correct but please read my post, about the horse............. now they have closed the gate.
----------------------------------------------------
I do live on one of the so call Borders of Thailand, in Kan, (my name is Win) (hence Kan Win) but, what this site has been on and on and on about is Fake Visas, that is why I posted this ………… they go caught DUE to Terrorism and got found wanting. (I do feel for them, but?????? )
What I meant (reading between my lines also) was that the Fake Visa people should really not complain about the “Catch” situation.
Hope you understand Thailand’s point of veiw and also mine own..,
God Safe the King
Your missing my point. This will not stop terrorism and does not make me feel safer.I am from england and we have had more bombings and terrorist activities than a lot of countries to do with problems in northern ireland. I would say our immigration controls are tighter than most places and together with fact we are an island you would think they should not have happened.
I think by overeacting to terrorists you make them the winners. I would rather have more freedom than bow down to a few nutters.
The real villians to do with the fake passport incidents are the agency people and the corrupt immigration police who are performing a duty of national security and honour and have been left wanting for the sake of a few baht.
God save Queen Elizabeth and the good King of Thailand.
-
Please excuse this post if anyone is offended one. (Fake Visas)
Has anyone thought of this one ???
With terrorists around every corner of the World right now, it is good that Thailand is doing something about this to protect themselves and all other nationalities visiting Thailand (before the horse has bolted through the gate) so to speak ? (Close it now). As they have done.
That is how I see Thailand clamping down on the Visas checks and renewals.
So in the “Catch” of Terrorists entering Thailand, the Thai Authorities also “Catch” the fake visas at the same time.
I think it is better to “Catch” the Terrorists at the Thai boarders, than to have a repeat of Bali or much worse etc…… here in THAILAND.
Your thoughts please
good yes . But as for catching and stopping terrorists what they are doing now will make little difference in the scheme of things. They caught Hambil before this clampdown didnt they ? Thailand has huge overland borders and very poor sympathisers in the south.

It is the same under acheiver from back home you try to vacation away from. The same person in Thailand that played
the farang card with the locals, you know the one you meet
that is the authority type on everything on the cheap way to do everything. The one that his first consideration on everything is how cheap can they do or get it for regardless
of the quality lost doing so.
The same person that will run around flashing the 15 or 20,000
baht around to the locals for pure showmanship but when it comes to a couple nice meals and nights out with the home folk never has the money to do so or he hangs around until it is getting close to his turn to buy the next round and guess who disappears for an hour or so who meets you at the next stop but avoids making good on the next round.
The foreigner who is just a plain old cheap charlie everything has to be cheap or nothing at all.
The fellow countryman that scammed a pension out of the government or company back home who shows up living in Thailand because the conditions are better for him/her. You know the one who has no problem partying it up and shagging anything that moves but could not make it the honest way back home.
The guy that has saved his 10,000 Lbs back home and is now going to live in a foreign country for a few to many years.
The same person that has started the new family, that cannot survive without them, who now has picked up the local job that pays what a high school kid back home makes.
You know the person who says if I am going to fail I might as well fail here in Thailand and stink the place up for everyone else.
The loud mouth that cannot talk without letting everyone within 50 meters of them know what they have to say.
Plenty of rich people i know have many of the characteristics you describe.......
-
ParryHandy - I agree with you to a point, but my business is mobile phone text messaging services etc. In Europe I'm considered one of the top 'techies' in this sector (apparently!!) - and I reckon i would have no problems in operating a profitable business in Thailand along similar lines.
But this Malaysian program does look of interest!! I am honestly tempted!!
Fair play to you then sounds like you could make it pay in a lot of countries.
Good luck whatever you decide.
-
This comment about wanting to live in Thailand, but not wishing to run a business, (because you have enough money anyway and are not retired etc).
I fall into that category. I have a UK business which generates good money for me, and I can sit on the beach in Phuket and let the money roll in. That would be nice to do on a 30 day tourist visa, but that is not operating within the strict interpretation of that visa.
So you need to make changes to ensure that you do fall within the scope of the relevant visa. In my case, I have set up a Thai ltd company wich will operate as a means of justifying my long-term stay in Thailand. I don't need the revenue generated by this Thai company, but it is one way to ensure compliance with the visa rules here. So I have a legit company, office, staff etc and a work permit. And this company might even make a profit!!
So for a modest outlay I have the right papers, visa etc and a blossoming business....and no need to see anyone at the border...
I honestly cannot see why anybody in their right mind would want to set up a business in thailand.Unless you have a product or service that they desperately need and cannot do without (and cannot run themselves after a while) your on an inevitable hiding. You have absolutely no rights as a citizen and as some people have mentioned on here in the case of any dispute the thai side will always be taken no matter what the evidence.
Surely if you are rich enough to set up a company (1 million baht plus ) would it not be easy and cheaper to just buy or rent a similar home in another country similar to thailand and just travel in and out when the expected visa changes are announced in july ?
???

Some sea turtles bury their eggs too far from shore, and the offspring all get picked off by seagulls. Same concept.
heng your not ERIC CANTONA are you ?
-
Just been to the border, i have 3 years worth of 30 day stamps, perfectly legal, (according to the immigration chief at the checkpoint who i made a point of asking to see), i border hopped for another 30 days, why does this practise come in for so much critisism, its legal, and for me convenient, so what is the problem. If the rules and regulations changed, i would have to alter my habits at that time, until then i will carry on as usual.
Do farangs here know more than an immigration officer?
I doubt that very much somehow.
The immigration Police give the stamps, not farangs with opinions.
Yes by law the "border hopping" is legal, but as so many laws in Thailand are very 'flexible' (not well defiened) and subject to interpretation, it may be considered illegal by some officers.
The 30-day visa rule was introduced a long time ago to attract more tourists and the Thai authorities did not think that this rule may be abused by some foreigners. Sad to say that too many foreigners have, and still do!, abused this rule. No wonder the government takes action.
Now they (the government) have realized the problem and they are cracking down on the abuse of this rule.
Every foreigner with a minimum of intelligence should know that staying in any foreign country long term requires a proper visa.!!!!!!!!!!!!
In Thailand that means a Non-O or Non-B visa at least!
opalhort
well i think your insulting the intelligence of the thai rule makers and the people on this forum.do you not think the thai people did not know how this rule would used by people ?
why do you try to distance yourself and point the finger at other people. i personally cant see the difference between people staying here long term on 3 month visas or 30 day visas.i have a wife and child here and i use 30 day visas when it suits my needs and finances.other times i get a 3 month visa. both are perfectly legal and encouraged for the time being.
some people on here are acting very cowardly and trying to blame others on the imaginary stress they may be in.when the thai authorities consider their economy to be doing ok and their tourism industry sufficient they will no doubt change the rules as and when.there is nothing wrong with being a 30 year 30 day tourist if you can afford it because again it is perfectly legal.
-
Totally agree as well . I pointed this out on another post . All this has come from the west.OK it could have been handled better ie ascertaining that the people arested are not terrorists and just fining them . Also think the thai people involved should be prosecuted as well but thats by the by.

Capitals......make it easier to read
OK just for you ill try to remember to use them next time.

England/Uk and America invaded Iraq Matey.
Maybe you should change your nationality to French.
Try starting sentences with a capital , it will make your badly written post a little easier on the eye.
Are you comparing USA's rape and murder statistics with the genocide that occurred in Iraq/Afghanistan?
I'm sure you've got a valid point somewhere , try again...
alls im saying is many people know deep down that the truth is a lot more complicated that what we get in the dumbed down mainstream press.
i am sick of reading about it as some king of freedom fighting , liberating invasion when it aint. did you not read my post i said i was not against it so why should i change my nationality.im proud of being english but am sick of being patronised by weasel politicians who think that by speaking slowly with stage managed pauses makes their comments beleivable.
the future for iraq will go the way of most puppet governments . there will be a bit of money for the new "elected" leaders the country will have immense debt for years to come but life on the ground for most of the people will not change that much at all.
the genocide in iraq and afghanistan is no different to the genocide of the native american indians years ago.
do you feel the world is a safer place now ?
-
the taliban have simply been replaced by a number of war lords equally as brutal as there predecessors, where women have absolutley no more rights than before. The big differance is that they are backed by the US, and thus have absolute power
No, sorry the U.S. definetly does not back brutal war lords in Afghanistan (any more than they did in Somalia). What has happened is (now that the Taliban are gone) opportunistic warlords are trying to seize power in certain areas of the country, before the infrastructure of the new government has been fully set up. But they do not have the backing of the U.S... never.
US has donated 300 million $$300M sounds too low but I'm not sure where to go to find out the correct figure, so I'll just pass over that one. I strongly suspect though, that the figure is much, much higher. GW just asked for $87 BILLION to continue activities in Iraq, so $300 million just seems too low.
invading afganistan was revenge and revenge only, for 11/9. You obviously would not agree.Revenge? Well actually, that's probably pretty close. Retaliation is probably a more accurate word. Afghanistan was a hot bed of terrorists, complete with training camps, and of course OBL himself. The point was to find those responsible and make them stop... So why not strike there?
Look, the U.S. was directly attacked. And it wasn't soldiers in a battle field some where that got hit. It was everyday working people like you and me. Innocent people, working at their jobs. Osama and his terrorists took credit for it and they were in Afghanistan, so Bush went after them. So? If that's where the responsible parties are, then strike.
Unfortunately, this is a far different kind of war and it calls for a different set of retalitory tactics; different than what we've seen in the past. Like the Internet, Al Quaeda is a network that is spread out, with tenacles all over the world. Even though Saddam may not have any direct links to 9-11, he has a history of supporting terrorists, threatening his neighbors, being aggressive, etc., etc. Do I have private, inside knowledge of the intelligence reports used to make the decision? No, of course not and neither do you, more than likely. And I'll concede that apparently there may have been some incorrect information passed on along the way.
But one thing is for sure, with all of Saddam's intimidation, aggressive posturing and activities (invading Kuwait, killing/raping his own people, etc.), he had the chance to let the inspectors in and do their job, and he f*cked with them every step along the way. If he didn't have WMDs, then he should have opened the doors. If I get stopped on the road by a police and he wants to search my car for cocaine, I'm going to let him.
Had 9-11 not happened, then maybe the urgency would not have been felt to do something about Saddam. But that day changed everything, and not just the Americans. I'm afraid now there's no going back for anyone, anywhere.
Now is it America's job to act as the police of the world? No, but if they are directly attacked on U.S. soil, and if the attackers can quickly disperse and retreat inside countries that are friendly to them and show a history of being anti-American, then... unfortunately, I think we're going to see more unconventional maneuvers like the war on Iraq.
I really would rather have peace. I hope and pray for peace. I don't want the world to be this way. That's one reason why I like Thailand so much, it seems so different than anywhere else. But unfortunately, there's a lot of bad in the world. And I can't blame the Americans for doing what they need to do; to find the ones who are responsible and make them stop. I think if it were your country, you'd probably feel the same way.
america rightly or wrongly has just invaded iraq without support from the UN. it is no different from iraq invading kuwait i.e. an act of illegal agression.
why did the US not allow the inspectors to finish their job ? where are the WMDS ? and would any country allow inspectors to just waltz around going and looking where they want. would america ?
how many people are raped and killed in USA every year by other americans ?
which country in the world has killed more people in history using WMDS. america has .
opportunistic warlords and generals are the natural leaders and politicians of the future if left and not interfered with . look at americas history .
what have terrorist attacks got to with invading a country if anything an unwanted occupier will increase said risks.
the country that threw up the most links to 9/11 was saudia arabia why not start their ?
if the policeman that stops you in your car is not an american policeman youd tell him to go to #### as long as hes not got a gun.
ive said before im english so find myself not against what has happened but it is just about money and power and some very powerful and rich people fighting over strategic and valuable resources. not about democracy or some moral crusade.but at the end of the day im gald im english rather than a national of most countries in the world.

parryhandy,
its not your passport they want, its any passport.
its not that the bike shop owner would clone your passport, but the people involved in fraud need access to genuine documents such as passports and credit cards.
by pressurising or paying bike shop owners, guest house owners etc. to access these documents for an hour or so they obtain the details of,or the documents themselves
there is a big demand for stolen/cloned us/uk/euro passports and credit cards. your passport could be of great use to someone else.a change of photo could be all it takes to put your name on the wanted list in many countries.
a parryhandy clone could make life very difficult for the real parryhandy
to advocate carelessness with your passport is inviting trouble
if it was harder to get hold of fake passports, then those that use them to travel around the world (hambali,to name but one) would find life harder.
when those guys find life harder, then my life and your life automatically becomes easier and safer.
thats why your previous post was nonsense.
im sorry but i think your going overboard. if a terrorist or organised crime boss wants a passport he can just go and steal one or copy his own or associates.they could get any name out of the phone book if they wanted.all the info they would need you fill in regularly on forms ie hotel registrtion etc. as for the parryhandy clone it does not worry me in the slightest for theres nowt i could do about it anyway.at the end of the day a face has got to be put to a name at some point and unless the person using my name is the spitting image of me then i think id be ok .the only way it would ever be a problem is if somebody actually wanted to set you up for something but thats entering the realms of fiction.
if people can actually put photos in passorts then they can obviously make them. all the other info in them is irrelevant really when you turn up at a checkpoint the immigration people have nothing to compare it with so any details could be total crap anyway.as long as it has all the markings and looks like a genuine passport its enough whatever the name details etc.. as long as the picture matches the holder.no if you wanted a fake passport surely the ideal one would be a genuinely new identity ie someone that did not already exsist or have a passport cos otherwise they maybe a small chance one day youd try entering a country where the person youve "cloned" already is.
to finish i just cant see what use to the "rental guys associates " my passport is.
i maybe overlooking somethink obvious please tell me were my thinking is flawed.
-
mr. parryhandy, yet more nonsense from you.
in these times of suspicion and watchfulness,it would be negligent and careless to leave ones passport for "safe keeping" with the owner of a bike rental shop.
this is exactly how passports and identities are "borrowed" for cloning.
and its those careless, naive and negligent people who leave their passports at bike shops that make it so easy for those of a criminal intent to further those intentions.
if people refused to leave passports, the shop owners would not be able to do business,if they were unable to rent bikes they would HAVE to find another way of obtaining guarantees, which they would find very quickly.otherwise they would get hungry.they have no right to take possession of a passport.
the ease with which falangs can be parted with their passports is nothing but a joke.
in all passports it is printed that it should not be given to an
unauthorised person,on whose authority does a bike shop owner become authorised to take possession of a passport.
in a country like thailand youve got more chance of the "authorities " cloning your passport than a bike shop rental owner who probably earns a lot more.why the #### would someone clone my passport. it aint much use without me.the only "top secret" info in a passport is your name country , place of birth etc all information that you regularly give for a number of things e.g checking into a hotel or b+b, joining a library etc..
what was the other nonsense you refer to ??
-
Then you'd have a hard time doing many basic things in the Kingdom like just renting a bike while on holiday.
Really? Funny how I was never asked for one then, isn't it?
If you surrender your passport to a bike rental agency, of all things, you're a fool.
think about it mr tool. if you ran a bike rental agency would you rent a bike out for say a month with no way of stopping jonny foreigner selling or damaging the bike and vanishing.its either a deposit for the value of the bike or your passport unless they know you which is unlikely if your a tourist.id rather leave my passport than 40k baht anyday.
dont think youd last long in the rental business.

Heck if a US citizen commits murder in Thailand
in this case the us citizen HAS committed murder and should therefore be extradited to receive his punishment
if a citizen is suspected of committing murder then the procedure is (i think) for the extradition warrant to be issued along with the evidence behind that suspicion.then the us courts would decide the outcome.
i agree with you about the thai legal lottery.
appologise taxexile for my harsh reply. its just i find the thai legal system and police digusting and barbaric in some regards.
-
Heck if a US citizen commits murder in Thailand, he will not be deported back from the US.
i suspect they might be. and so they should be.
oh no they should not nor any other western civilised country.unless the police can come up with absolute 100 percent evidence.surely you do not think the thai legal system is no more than a lottery at best most of the time and as for a lot of the police well !
-
So even out in the sticks the farangs reputation follows them.
No wonder, we buy cars, houses and take care of generations
of poor families. These people may be underprivilledged and for good reason many times. They take the easy way out in life.
Give them money and they will not even go to work til its gone. Save for another day, right, if it is not today forget it.
It is something that is beyond the realm of their thinking.
We have never seen nor heard of some of these people.
Relatives coming out of the woods that need money. It is purely pathetic the way they have the nerve to not even blink a eye while asking someone they never met before for money.
Try to teach them about saving a bit of cash for hard times
impossible, it's just beyond their ability.
I know they work so hard. Yeah, right, for maybe a couple hours a day or until they get a couple hundred baht in their pocket. Alot of them take all day to do what should only take a couple hours. Mind you not all of them are this way but for the uneducated thai it is most of the time. They have no discipline in money matters and many times drive themselves to poverty for a life time. This may be the reason the chinese decendants do much better and hold most of the wealth...
You think making life a bit easier for them helps them that much. Nope they will piss it away in a N.Y minute if you do not
stand fast and be very stringent with them. Well who cares how someone else spends their money. I also do not like hearing how much someone is helping them so much with hand outs. Teach them the basic of money management is the best not a free lunch. The successful thai's see what fools we are. You don't think they have poor relatives.
Well I am done with this there is enough farangs just barely getting by in Thailand that will join the ranks of, they are owed some consideration because they blew their time and money on the poor. Plenty of poor people back home some of you might think of fixing things there before you get lost in Disneyland. The only thing I am saying is use the right head to think with. Yes we all like to be the one someone else looks up to but use 10% of your brain doing so.
it may suprise you but i agree with you to some extent.i live in isann and see many farangs being kind to the thais they have relationships with but some of them are being spoilt rotten.the farangs are just to blind to see it though.sometimes you just want to grab hold of them and shout what they #### are you doing.i havent got a lot of money and know soon i will have to go back to england so while its been hard i have been able to teach my wife a little bit about money management. basically cos we aint got it to spend.she often tells me that people say to her " why dont you find rich farang".i say go on then but she stays with me because in her heart she is a good person.but i know she did and still does to some extent get a lot of pressure off her family.but they dont bother asking me for money now.
but many farangs just make it worse by literally throwing money about and then when its too late try putting their foot down.they darnt risk losing their girlfriends by then.of course when youve been spoiling someone they are never going to listen when you want them to behave sensibly.some of the older farangs i think to myself what the #### are you going to do when your moneys gone cos youll been on your own and in the crap.
some of these people do beleive money grows on trees in the west and like you say have absolutely no idea about money management at all.they dont seem to understand that economical systems are the same wherever your from.its not just the fault of farangs though i think thai culture and politics has played a part in this as well though.these people are basically oppressed.
i can understand the live for today mentality in some respect due to the shocking low wages and expectation for the future.
could you work for say 100 baht a day and save for the future?say someone in your family got sick and needed treatment urgently. could you turn round and say no were not going to use our savings to save the life of so and so weve worked 10 years for that ? by living day to day these descisons are made for you in one way.also without social power and status as a human being to be treated equally a little money wont help you anyway in the long run.i think vast masses of people have been left behind in the economic developement of thailand and should have been given corruption free help and assistance.but do due the moral vacuum and greed in thailands powerful people in some cases this has not happened .the west did this in its developement in the form of welfare. this has got out of hand in some regards but is not overly generous as to say we are spoiling people.
like i say not as black and white as it appears.there are a lot of injustices that do occur and i can see some people just want to help their thai girlfriends / familys because they love them.

Membrane can you please explain why america did invade iraq if it wasnt for oil.Do you not find it a coincidence that iraq had signed contracts with european countries to well its oil fields. Can you also explain why september 11th happened and why america are hated by so many people throughout the world ?
America will do very well out of invading iraq. The money to help rebuild iraq , damage which america has caused, will be loaned. The contracts to rebuild going to american firms at inflated prices and the oil money paid by america given back to america on interest on these loans for time immortal.A country forever in debt.
If it was because of the reasons bush gave then why doesnt america invade burma, rhodesia, somali, and the country thats openly taunted america in admitting its reopened its nuclear programme NKorea. There is no god #### OIL in these brutally run countries thats why.Due you expect people to beleive america has suddenly started caring about people under brutally opressive regimes.Dont make me laugh.
Why has america not invaded saudia arabia where a large percentage of the terrorists involved in september 11th are known to have originated.
Im not anti american per se but i am anti propaganda and bullshit.American politicians are nothing more than actors that can play a role for any situation.Good god arnold shwarzeniggers even been elected, i thought id seen it all.
