  1. proportion of long stayers and visa extenders are here only for the low prices, often living on meagre benefits from their home country that are sent over and , and in truth thailand would not suffer from their absence

    At last, some sense!

this is just a reinforcement of the pathetic thai attitude towards wealth. how did all the people that rule this country become weathly. by being useful members of the community . i think not. by abusing power thats how.if you took away these peoples money they would have no skills to benefit anybody.

my meagre benefits by western standards go a long way to improve the lives of the people i care about here.the average thai where i live probably earns about 50-100 baht a day.my wifes sister is married to a policeman. 17 years in the force now the highest rank before commissioned officer he earns 360 baht a day.now for some reason if i want too stay with my family and lead a simple life i need to earn 1000+ baht a day. if you put this into a uk perspective relative to what the thai policeman earns it works out at about 300 pounds a day.

tell me how it benefits the majority of thai people when the rich man comes and stays in top hotels owned by the few?

i have a "meagre " income and my wife works and earns money when she can. the usual bob a job work most thais do.but this is enough for us and it keeps our family(3 children- one from an uncaring dutchman provides nothing, one from ex thai husband with good job provides not a lot, and one my own) together and happy.who has the right to tell us how much we have to earn.

i made the decision about staying here and family and got legally married and did everything the right way. now they want to change the rules without allowing for lifetime decisions that have already been made.this means if i dont forfill these NEW criteria which i cant me and my family will be seperated. THIS IS GOOD FOR THAILAND IS IT . :o

i dont care if thailand wont suffer from my absence whatever that means but i know 4 people that will.

i urge some of the recent posters on here to just think a bit more before spouting there middle class claptrap.

  2. well i just hope those of you with money will use it to gain publicity in the west for what is happening and actively discourage tourists from coming here.they dont seem to play ball on anything and  milk the fact that we have caring human rights in the west.its about time agencies and govns stopped helping them until they learn to appreciate it.

i am poor by their criteria and will therefore be seperated from my two daughters. how can this be right ? this is not about apec this is next july apec is next month.

  3. "I have sent out a clear message, and that is 'no sex at massage parlours'," said a defiant Sant, who has admitted recently to being the business partner of a hotelier who also owns massage parlours.

you couldnt make this stuff up if it were not true.absolute joke.

  4. nothing is done in this country for the right reasons all the good institutions are used as tools for business and political motives.there are no checks and balances.

what this basically means is this guy has overstepped the mark and one way or another hes toast.

  5. the only thing that frightens me about such ridiculous actions is the frightening ease and ability it would be too set someone up. in a survey done by the justice ministry over 75 percent of people in a random survey thought that over 80 percent of people in prison in thailand were in fact innocent and just scapegoats.

obviously you have nothing to worry about if you consider the police in thailand to be upstanding members of the community painstakingly applying the laws impartially and without predjudice too those that break them. but if you think that the majority are nothing more than pathetically fearful paid lackeys who will do just about anything to save their own necks then worry.

  6. a fellow farang in our village waited 5 months for a land line and then on talking to a local policeman discovered he had 5 lines so ended up agreeing to buy one of him at an inflated price.they went to the exchange to transfer the number to him and low and behold they suddenly came up with a spare number from nowhere.they only have so many numbers so have to wait till people get cut off which can take a while cos even if they miss their payment they cant use the phone to ring out but can pay a certain small amount to keep the number each month.
  7. i beleive that over 80 percent of the population of thailand arent even invovled in the economy.the real economy has no bearing on their lives whatsover.the thing which saddens me , because i have a thai daughter is the basic lack of opportunity for the majority of thais.the real economy is owned by a few people in which competiton is virtually outlawed. theres is no wealth creation or disribution of wealth.how wealthy do certain familys have to get before they start giving back something to the people they supposedly represent.
  8. i would say the stats are very conservative 99 percent of the fair size town i live in (isann north east village) is owned by 2 people (chinese descent).there is no land market as far as i can tell. why sell land when you can charge rent and therefore control the businesses on it ? theres a lot of houses sold without the chanod as well. there is farm land but this is worthless really and i would imagine theres plenty of ways too make the farmer sell it cheaply if the 2 people needed it.when you own so much land what can local small businesses do if they dont like the rents when everywhere is owned by the same people.is there a rent review board etc.. ha ha.

no taxes on unused land so why sell unless you get a massive profit out of it .

  9. human rights can go to far but surely in a democratic country everybody should have the right to defend themseleves and a way of doing so.none of these killings were investigated and do you really think when authorities(alledgedly) start killing people someones going to stand up and say " hold on that man was innocent".im afraid hopefully innocent people werent killed isnt good enough for me. even public meetings after the event showing some kind of evidence would have been something.

imagine the scenario your a hard working businessman but dont get along with the big boss businessman of your area and  the police (maybe you refuse to pay bribes etc).suddenly theres a green light to shoot drug dealers.next thing your house is raided and low and behold a massive bag of drugs is found.no trial cos youve been killed. job done no enquiry no evidence needed only this bag of drugs. .your land businesses etc now belong to the state and are sold to guess who.total fiction but just a thought.

another thing youll find that 99 percent of people invovled in the drug business are doing it for the money and not alot at that.killing them is no deterrent because for most there is no alternative.theres no dole its a case of get money somehow or die anyway. youll find theyll shift to another avenue of crime that doesnt get the kangeroo court death penalty.

what about eliminating people that sell cigarettes and alcohol while were at it.

    ???

  10. The airlines won't carry you unless you have an outbound ticket within 30days of arrival. The 30 day visa on arrival is strictly for tourism purposes and is available to people with that confirmed outbound ticket.

is this strictly true.if a tourist plans to fly to thailand and then travel by land to lao, burma, malaysia etc he can no longer do this.that does not sound credible to me .or are you saying that to do this you need to apply for a transit visa ?

also having just got a non imm90 day married mans visa will i be ok to go and apply for another one in vientienne before this expires ?

  11. we were in that que and in the end started to shout everytime someone touted their way in and suprisingly other people joined in and it worked the touts stopped.the tout guy with berry on tried to push in right infront of us and we told him to get behind us and quite suprisingly he did.i think if you do speak out other people will join you and they do dissappear.it sometimes needs someone to start the ball rolling.

cant answer your visa query but me and my friend are both married and obtained a non immigrant 90 day visa on the 25th for 500 baht which has now gone up to 2000 baht.

  12. i use tot at the moment and find a bargain service really.i only use the net late afternoon onwards and find it perfectly useable.when i first connected it 6 months ago it was awful and so bought cards which were alot faster.but one day i ran out of card time tried tot  again and found it only marginally slower.good enough for 3 baht every 2 hours.the only problems i have now are with phone lines now and again after heavy storms mainly. :o
  13. hmm sounds to me you dont really know yourself.anyway will post any concrete info on tuesday when i return.couldnt really have picked a worse date to go really as it sounds to me after reading through the forum that as well as us farangs the thais dont really know much themselves about the new rules.
  14. "what im talking about" is if the 30day visa is still free and with no attachments is there any point from a financial perspective of getting any other visa after the 26th.

before the 26th i.e the monday i spoke of the 25th (i think i might have wrongly put 27th) it is cheaper for me to get a 90 day marriage visa.i just wanted confirmation of the date because if it is monday they go up it will save me a trip into vientienne cos ill just come straight back.

  15. can someone please confirm that the 30 day walk out walk in tourist visa is still free ? as i live only a couple of hours from the border and even though im married there is no point in me getting any other visa financially speaking is there ?

also i am going to lao to get a 90 day marriage visa on monday the 27th.can someone please confirm the date of the rise cos it seems a tad strange not starting the new fees at the start of the week or is this just a thai thing ?

thanks in advance for any replies.    :o
