I have to ask OP. Why did you first come to Thailand and how long have you been here?

If you have 2 million in the bank I seriously doubt that was earned from teaching English here. As an average teaching salary is around 30K that would take 10 years to accumulate assuming you could live off half of your salary.

If you had the money before you came, I doubt the first thing someone around your age would be doing is here is looking for employment.

There are many red flags in your story but most just indicate that it's not true.

OK finally got to the embassy today as his mother didn't show up until this morning. They decided that an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) was the way to go but I have to book the flights first. The witch had to sign a consent form and they photocopied her ID card. They said once I have the flights, birth certificate, his expired passport, and my current one they could issue one the same day. Submit 8-11AM collect 2PM onwards.

My prediction ... FWIW ... is that nothing will change for those who did not register their SIM cards, and all will continue as usual.

I don't know how many pre-paid SIM cards aren't registered but I'd bet there are millions, and if so the phone companies won't be willing to throw away the billions of baht that'll be lost by cutting them off.

Yes, but most people can't live without their phones these days so the majority will have registered or switched to billed numbers. The others will panic when it stops working and register (if possible) or get a new registered number.

I can't really afford to risk chancing an expired UK passport (2 years) and a jobsworth at either airport though.

I also read on another thread that if you enter any country with a visa you have to abide by the dates on the visa, but there's a lot of conflicting information out there.

We have managed to contact his mother who has "kindly" agreed to go to the embassy with us on Monday.

I am stuck in a bit of a catch 22 situation, regarding taking my son back to the UK. His British passport expired a few years back, and he needs a new one or alternative document. He has a brand new Thai passport as initially the British PP website said they would need to see it. The issue is that now I'm running out of time as it took his mother ages to appear at the Thai PP office.

Basically, I need the fastest documentation to get him out of Thailand. My lease runs out in 2 weeks and money is becoming a big concern. I think I have 3 options:

1. Wait for normal British passport, but was told it could/would take 6 weeks

2. Try to get an emergency travel document, but told I need hard travel dates and his mother's input.

3. Try to get him a British visa in his Thai passport, but not sure of consequences of not having a current British PP

I'm going to the Embassy on Monday to hopefully get clarification but wondered if anyone had any similar experiences or advice.

We had an incident at an expensive international school I worked. One of the Thai teachers knocked herself out after squatting and falling on the "western" toilets. Strange.

As I have said a hundred times on this forum Thais have no respect or duty of care for their children what parent would let a child travel to school with an incompetent driver with no training whatsoever and in a vehicle that is designed for carrying goods not people and no seat belts or restraints in the vehicle much safer just to walk the children to school or drive them yourself.

A similar thing happened a few years ago to a family whose children attended the school I worked at. Apparently the father had taken out huge loans from the mafia who threatened his wife and young children when he couldn't keep up repayments. So he shot them all before turning the gun on himself.

Both cases very sad.

Thailand should create a legal presumption of intoxication for anyone who runs. It should be presumed he ran to hide intoxication. Driving is a privilege, not a right, and this agreed presumption should be a condition of driving whether licensed or not.

There should also be heavy penalties for leaving the scene which would compound the penalties.

It should now be presumed that this driver ran because he was intoxicated, and intoxication should bring a presumption of being at fault. Failing to stop and render aid should also be a crime for the driver.

Drivers seem to believe that running is the answer to avoiding trouble when to the contrary it should compound the troubles.

Why do you live in Thailand.... Leave it to the Thai people to set their own laws.... if you don't like living here... there's the door... and please shut it behind you..!
