Everybody likes 100k more then 10k , 1 million i like more then 100k also , that is not the point . You done it before , living on budget , so you said it and you lived through it more then ok OK i guess, since you are still here . That is the point , you can live with small money and still have a decent lifestyle , having food , a good roof over your head and some extras here and there , but not too much . Some people never need more .  Now imagine somewhere in the middle like this guy , around 50k a month . Should be more then enough since he can choose to live on budget a few months , thus saving money for a more expensive month later on .

Some rich people would say , you cannot live with 1 million baht a month , but it really is not a big effort untill you get to the basic basic expenses , which are food(+water )  , and a decent room to live in .

Yes it is possible to live on a small budget and be happy. Millions of people in the World do it daily.

I never said it wasn't. What I was saying is that I have lived on a small budget ( when I was young ) survived and enjoyed it. It was a necessity, I was saving and working hard to improve my prospects. I was also younger, single and had less responsibility. I was happy enough sharing a dorm or a small apartment. Now I am used to a certain level of comfort and wish to live out my days at that level. I don't wish to reduce my standard of living to far below what I have become accustomed to ( I could if there was some catastrophe ) So I have planned for retirement. Saved, invested and prepared. I think 100-150K a Month would suffice. I doubt I would spend that amount every Month but life is full of surprises and unplanned for expense. My historical monthly income was well in excess of this figure. Not everybody gets by on minimum wage or fails to save for later life. Likewise not everybody is a celebrity, CEO or a trust fund kid.

If someone has only 50k a Month to live on and are happy more power to them. I just expect a little more for all the effort I have put in to be comfortable.

  2. I did all my budget living in my late teens and early twenties. Backpacked around Oz and Asia. Then spent a couple of frugal years in Singapore doing contract work (before getting some promotion and a better salary). Shared apartment, only cheap local meals, Beer in Hawker centers, Jogging and Gym for relaxation, No car or bike and not much in the way of expensive nitelife. I had a great time and I look back on that time as some of my best years. However after 30 years of hard work and a lot of sacrifices the idea of existing on a tight budget until I die is not very attractive. Luckily I have made most of life's big purchases and believe I can live comfortably in retirement with with enough income to buy what I need and not feel I am just existing.  Yes I'm certain I could get by on 10K a Month if left with no choice. But I'd prefer to have a budget of 100K and then choose how much I spend of it. Surely that choice is the important part ?

30 years is a long time to have to watch every penny and go without.  Sounds more like a punishment than retirement.

You need to start hoping the French don't give in.

The rightwing French political parties have all stated they intend to move the British boarder back to were it belongs in Kent.

Thank God for the English Channel.. Hope they can swim. We just need to convince the dopey politicians not to send the navy to "rescue" them. Let the French Navy do that and take them back to France. The border starts at the beach in Calais not the beach in Kent.

  4. Sick to death of the BBC droning on about poor hard done by Africans and Middle Easterners. When is it going to stop ? Are they all going to keep coming until Britain sinks into the sea ? Why do they deserve our way of life ? If they want it, let them build it in their own country. What to they bring that we could possibly want ? Violence, crime, disease, backward tribal beliefs, religion, female genital mutilalation, gang violence, honour killings and ex child soldiers with mental problems and stress.

None can expect more than poorly paid unqualified work. They will creat yet more ghettos and cost the taxpayer millions thoughout their lives.

  5. None of them have a 'right' to come to UK. Repatriate them all to the land of their birth. Let them apply from there in writing or online. Anyone who tries to circumvent the correct immigration procedures should be banned for life from entering or gaining residency in the UK

Why do honest and hard working people have to have passports and visas while these riff raff are able to just arrive and live rough. Are they too stupid to understand that nobody wants them ?

  6. The weird new Decco furnishing and DIY type store down towards South Pattaya has the largest display of Philips LED lighting and bulbs that I have seen out of BKK.. But that was a few Months back and by the look of the rest of the ugly crap they sell they may be closed by now.

Moslems have felt increasingly unwelcome in previously favoured tourist destinations such as London, Paris, New York.  They have therefore looked for more friendly destinations.  I understand the number of Moslem tourists visiting Malaysia has increased significantly for just this reason.  I suspect the hotel is a smart move from a business perspective.

From a Thai perspective, I suspect it's not important which country a tourist is from - Western Europe, Russia, China, Middle East, it's all the same - as long as they spend lots of money here and then go.

Can't they just visit other Islamic countries ?  They dislike scantily clad women ( supposedly )

They dislike alcohol ( supposedly ) They want their wives to wear a penguin suit and they expect Halal food and kitchens cleaned and blessed by religious officials.. Hardly sounds like Thailand or any of the Western tourist hotspots does it ?

Guess it all depends if we are trying about muslim families or single muslim men.. From my observations, single muslim men are mostly desperate to drink and get laid just about anywhere they can. Certainly plenty in London driving high end cars doing exactly that.. Just don't tell their Mum and Dad..

Biggest load of bull I've ever heard you must be a man's man.  Machoist post of the week well done you  win a councillor fir the week.

Don't need a Councillor. Been with my wife for 11 years. We have a great relationship. She is a very bright independent woman. Has her own property and her own business ( pale skin too, don't ya know). We share household chores and the upkeep of our garden. I'm often away on business, she travels overseas with friends and family. We have mutual respect and trust. She still prefers to seek my advice on many things and often defers to my decision. Of course my decisions take her needs into account too.

Nothing wrong with one of us taking the lead. Every ship needs a captain.

Funny how that somehow infers to you that I'm a overbearing svengali. When it might actually mean I'm very secure in my relationship and myself and my wife have a good sense of humour.

BTW. I have never previously been married, divorced, badly treated by women or been embitttered, potless or impoverished. I'm also tall, well built. very good looking and have a huge **** :cheesy:

Now back to your luke warm Leo..Nothing to see here

  9. It may well be possible. But both my BMW (42 yrs old) and my Audi (16 yrs old) were officially imported cars from the main dealer. I checked with several insurance companies both Thai and Foreign but had the same reply. I did think it silly but their attitute was cars are old and parts are hard to find so third party is all we offer. Don't know what a rich Thai with a classic Porsch or Lambo does ? So maybe specialist insurance is available at a price ?

When the Brexit vote came in didn't a French minister have to retract having said something about no longer trying to stop migrants trying to get the Britain   ?

What makes me wonder is that so many of these migrants crossed the Med to southern France and were able to work their way north to Calais without being stopped and being deported.     Was the fact that they wanted to head across the channel that made it ok   ?

Yes they threatened to retract an agreement regarding processing. But this agreement had nothing to do with EU rules so was just another false flag from project fear.

Yes exactly, to my understanding freedom of movement within the EU was intended for people who were citizens of the EU. Not for any man jack foreigner who happened to cross into the EU from outside. It is a ridiculous state of affairs and the rest of the World must be laughing up their sleeves.

  11. Bring in the army, bulldoze the camp. Round up and interrogate the migrants to discover their country of origin. Repatriate them. It is very simple. It just needs the French to show some strength ( historically unlikely ) Not only will this clear the Jungle of it's inhabitants it will discourage others making the fruitless journey. Australia has stopped the boats by making it clear no reffos will be given asylum. Europe needs to adopt the same hardline approach. Before it is too late.
