  1. I couldn't answer to my topic started here:

So this is kind of a follow up post:

So starting a new company this year, what cost would I be looking at. I mean in total from start to finish including all fees involved and by using Sunbelt as a service provider for the whole process.

Besides, what would be the approximate time needed for the setup of a company (approximately).

Finally, using Sunbelt for accounting and filing the required documents to the government each month, what kind of cost would that be about per month after setting up the company?

  2. The police knew it but only acted when the government changed.

Just another "cover up" to add to the growing list of the Dems collection of corruption. The country is well rid of them.

Clearly not much vision. Perhaps blinkered would be a better sign-in name?Abhisit is renowned as the most anti-corruption PM Thailand has seen for a long time.

That is just not true. What you mean is that he PM himself might not be as corrupt as others. i would agree.

But corruption itself has been on the rise again with Abhisit. Clearly. If there was one thing Thaksin did, it was bring corruption down...maybe he was not really the best leading example :) but here is an example of Thaksins time:

Thai friend of mine has a bar and he always used to pay the cops some money each month. No choice. When Thaksin was in power and started cracking down on corruption, the cops seriously one night came and said they dont want my friend to offer them any money anymore as they are scared to loose their jobs.

Other example are all the motorcycle taxis that historically have always been controlled by mafia and other people who they have to pay money to each month. This all stopped during Thaksin but it reappeared during Abhisit.

Many more examples like this. In the end, politicians are all the same, Dems or PT, you'll always have corrupt ones in both camps.

  3. Wonder if anybody has information on the following case which is probably a bit strange but a true case:

A public company ltd. was founded in Thailand about 10 years ago, with Thai and foreign shareholders. Normal required setup. One foreigner had a work permit. After about 2 years, the company stopped pretty much doing anything though and most involved people are not even in Thailand anymore but it was never officially closed.

So I am wondering now what happens with this kind of "zombie company". For years there have not been any documents coming out of this company, nothing has been filed for many years already. Is there any way to "revive" such a company, paying up whatever fees it would cost (how much could that be?) or anything like that? Would it be worth it or cheaper to start a new one? Any info on this is welcome.

  4. The initial report has been wrong and was written by a BKK post writer that thinks a tuk tuk is a noisy 3 wheeled vehicle, hence the use of the term minibus.

Back to this topic, call me skeptical but the past history of these tuk tuk drivers and their surly mood and quick triggers to resort to violence, suggests that this will not be the last time something like this violent outburst will occur.

normally there are always 2 sides to a story. Not really possible to make any judgement based on this article. Maybe some tuk tuk drivers can get aggressive.... but why nobody states the fact that here are just as many drunk foreign idiots on the roads of phuket these days so i could very well imagine those 2 having done something stupid or even getting aggresive themselves. Who knows? Of course the police job will be to protect the tourists under any circumstances.

  5. The Samsung SGS2 is really beautiful, but the two main issues with my old HTC Desire still stands:

First there's the terrible battery life. Even with Oxygen-ROM which is tuned for maximum battery saving it's awful. Sure, if I only take a call or two and some very light Internet usage, I can make a charge last a full day, but 2-3 hours actual work on the phone and it's pretty much dead. As it has a 1400 mA battery I doubt the SGS2 will be much different for this, and I don't see a solution until there is another serious breakthrough in battery technology, like when the LiIon battery replaced NiCa batteries.

Then there's the 4-band GSM radio but only 2-band HSPA/WCDMA which severely limits you freedom to choose a carrier here. At least this ought to have been easy to fix, but I think the problem is most of the world use 2100 MHz for 3G, 850/900MHz systems is just so 1980.

I think I'll stick with the old Desire for a little while yet, particularly as there are now custom ROMS available for it, no longer depending on HTC to bring out updates.

The battery is not 1400 but 1600. Battery life is prety good for this amount of power and you can get a full day out of it with moderate usage....just like any other modern smart phone. I know those reports sometimes that say "I get 2 days out of it or sth like that" but I think thats not realistic. That wont happen with an iphone also with normal usage. but its OK i think. Anyway, the SG2 doesnt perform worse or better than other smart phones here.

  6. Great news. I'll be the first to dump True Move and swich over to DTAC. Bye bye half assed True Move and hello DTAC with reliable foreign high quality service! smile.gif

But yeah, reliable 3G in thailand is ridiciously overdue. 4G should have been here a long time ago. Even poor Vietnam and Cambodia has 4G.

DTAC service is quite good. But if you think all your 3G problems will be solved by moving to DTAC, then you are dreaming. They are just starting out with this service and you can rest assured they will face the same slow down problems over time than any other operator. Besides, DTAC has more subscribers than TRUE, so that won;t help the case. AIS the same thing. Although I also heard lot of positive comments, some of my friends who have AIS 3G service think its really bad so far with 3G constantly cutting off even within Bangkok and speeds already below average.

  7. Maybe the foreign governments believe the charges against the former PM, who was overthrown by an illgal military coup, were politically motivated?

You are beginning to sound like a broken record and not a very bright one at that most of the time. Do you really think a Foreign Gov't should be choosing to accept or NOT accept what charges are legit or not in another country? Do you think the German gov't would be impressed if they had a convicted criminal running around in exile and other countries were allowing him to stay there in a rather obvious show of lack of respect for another countries laws?

The people of Thailand expressed their sentiments in July and the sovereign foreign governments have noted that the tainted Democrats were booted from office.

Again you just make yourself look like a spoiled brat with these outbursts. "Tainted" Dems? No more or less I would imagine than the people currently in power, but why oh why can YOU only see one side of any given coin? You do yourself no favor's by coming across as such a Red boot licker. How exciting for Thailand so now the tainted Dems supported by the Hi-so Elite in BKK have been booted out, so the Tainted PTP party run by the Hi-So Chiang Mai family and other up country Elites can have their turn at the trough.

Amazing their are so many people like you that continue to think that somehow this election is going to do something good in a long term way for the people that actually need it the poor people of Thailand. Do note I said poor people as Thailand as a gov't is rather well off, (look up the stats) but that money does not trickle down in any worthwhile way to the ones that it the most, keep them in cheap credit under educated and PTP and it's leaders are happy as clams... but so very sad to see so many "educated" farangs falling for the same propaganda from either side.

"Tainted" Dems? No more or less I would imagine than the people currently in power, but why oh why can YOU only see one side of any given coin?

Ha ha. I think you should speak for yourself. just as the person you are referring too is pro PTP, you are obviously a hardcore Democrat fan. Both sides are not perfect obviously. There are just as many incompetent morons with PTP than with the Dems...... and also good people.

Do you think the German gov't would be impressed if they had a convicted criminal running around in exile and other countries were allowing him to stay there in a rather obvious show of lack of respect for another countries laws?

Very bad comparison. I'm not saying that TS was all good and never did anything illegal....but his sentence happened in a time where the coup leaders were in power. Don;t you think that any big democratic nation such as germany will look at this very, very long and be very sceptical about this. And its the right thing to do. The reason that it happened after the coup might have even helped TS. The comparison is very bad because of this and for the reason that this situation won't happen in Germany at this point of time. It would be impossible, just as it would be impossible in the UK, Netherlands, etc.. The courts in those countries work very differently and more importantly independently from the government, sth. you cannot say about the Thai courts. They are supposed to, but they are not. So a comparison like that is really not valid.

  8. Why does the table only mention i? What about HTC,Samsung.. For the record my Samsung galaxy doesn't work on the 850 band. So doesn't work with True 3g

actually AIS is the only real "Android friendly" provider. You can use the 3G packages on any smartphone. I also have the same problem that AIS is actually the only provider on which I can use 3G with my phone. I normally buy in Europe (the phones) and in Europe 850 like on True is nowhere to be found, just the 900 frequency that AIS offers.

Having said that, 2 friends of mine living in Bangkok both have upgraded to AIS 3G and both of them think its HORRIBLE. Both have iphone 4 mobiles. I watched it myself and the 3G reception will go from full to "searching" on and off. When connected the speed can be OK (seldomly) but mostly it is very bad, hardly faster than Edge. AIS has a lot of fixing and upgrading to do. Im surprised it seems to work so well in Phuket.

  9. In the original post it says:

"Voice + 3G (for your iPhone or Android) runs 899 baht/month and includes 500 minutes of voice calls, 300 SMSs, unlimited WiFi at AIS and 3BB hotspots (there aren’t many in Phuket yet), and up to 2 gigabytes (GB) of data at fast speeds. If you don’t want WiFi, get the 839 baht/month package."

Can somebody point me to the site where I can find the 899 Baht offer? I cant seem to find it. All I'm seeing on AIS website are smartphone packages with 1GB and no 3G for 1000 Baht already (http://www.ais.co.th/gsmadvance/en/Smartphone_Packages.aspx) but where is the 3G + voice plan for 899.

  10. Yep now the offer from Thaksins buddies will likely come in

to buy enough shares to make them legal again.

Likely at firesale rates of course.

Powerplay in the works for sure.

    So you nasty Norwegians,

here's an offer you can't refuse.

Makes me think back to Monson,

Thaksin partnered with him to install technology,

but it came time to take profits and

he had Monson thrown in jail...

What a nonsense.. Is there any post where you do not mention Thaksin? Wonder what this man has done to you.

    It's raining.... blame Thaksin!

Anyway do you know the democrates (your friends) are still in power? And that under their government this whole DTAC thing is initiated?

Does anyone know what political grouping True are close to and why they could get deals through when others couldnt? That is also why DTAC find themsleves in this position. Then again commercially they had little choice, but lacked/lack political allies

All I know is that True is part of the CP group empire....which is owned by probably the richest family in Thailand... rich normally equates to influency so I wouldn't be surprised they have some powerful friends that could have made such a deal possible.

Interesting thing is that Abhisits father is a director at True...but I wouldnt; know if they are necessarily aligned with the Democrats, although it would make sense.

  11. Why is it nationalistic and not understandable? Foreigners owning land has been illegal for a long time already. Foreigners buying land are doing it in a very dark grey area of the law and should know the risks if they cheat the law. Prosecuting foreigners who own land illegally of course will hurt Thailand in many other ways so they better be careful what they do. But I can understand it. If large areas of land are held illegally by foreigners I guess at some point there will be somebody who starts doing something against it.

  12. The evergreen answer to your complaint/question is as follows: when people stop buying condos, developers will stop building them.

It wouldn't be the first time though that a bubble is created and then it would more be like "When there are too many condos and nobody buys them anymore and the first developers start crashing, then they stop building condos."

  13. "New applicants for work permits will now be required to provide proof of their Education Certificate (BA, BS, MA, MS, PhD) and a reference letter from the previous employer confirming employment."

As far as I know a degree has always been a requirement. At my old company there was a guy from NZ applying and being hired (this was about 3 years ago). He had to show a degree in order to get he work permit. He didnt have one so didnt get a work permit and couldnt take the job.

All jobs I have been working in in Thailand (3 different companies already) have required me to show my degree to get he work permit.

And finally, last time I got my work permit was the first time they didn't even accept my university transcript (which they have always accepted in the past), this was a couple months back (this year). They wanted to see the original degree (the real graduation paper document). This was a problem because I never picked this up when I finished university :) So I had to call to my university right inside the immigration and had somebody talk to the person at immigration to proof I have studied there. It worked out in the end but was quite scary. I was afraid it will not work. In the meantime I went back to my university and had the degree issued to me again. They were all laughing at me when they saw it took me over 7 years to pick it up since graduation :)

Anyway, just o share mu experience as I don't think the degree requirement is anything new.

  14. My questions is, can you actually also just buy wood on that street? I am looking for a place where I can buy a few posts of wood (Im not looking for teak wood, just normal and cheap wood, something I can try around with in my work shop before using a beter quality wood).

is there any place that will sell me posts of wood ?

Concerning the teak wood and legality: As far as I know there are teak wood planatations in Thailand where buying wood is 100% legal. As the trees there are not old they are considered to have lesser quality than old teak wood. But should be totally fine for furniture. Normal teak trees are not allowewd to be sold in thailand but as far as I know there are places selling teak wood from Burma that are 100% legal. But those shops will ask you what you will use it for when you buy there....you are of course not allowed to export it (they can only sell if you use it within Thailand)....and you can use it for furniture or flooring for example... but not to make toothpicks. Theer is a lot of rules but just because its teak doesnt necessarily mean its illegal.

  15. thanks for the offwer to look at True Value. I actually made the trip down there and found almost all that I needed. Definitely better quality stuff than for example at Home Pro.

The True Value at K Village and other malls is nothing compared to the real true Value. I mean they do not even have tools, its just gardening and BBQ stuff, dog food...sth like that.

  16. I went to http://www.kennedythailand.com/ today which looked great on the website with all the stuff I was hoping to see and be able to buy. Lots of wood working stuff too. just have a look at eh website.

Arrived there. Its in China Town and on the same street there are several other tool shops.

Big disappointment though because 90% of the stuff I saw on the website and wrote down to buy was "not in stock". Especially the wood working stuff.

Now the only place I havent tried yet is True Value. Was planning on going to the Nonthaburi branch. Now did anybody o there before? What do they offer? Is it just like Home Pro (crappy) or do they have other things. Anybody can report on what products you can get here?

Until now I wasnt even able to find a Japan saw here in Thailand. Does anybody know where to get one? Any other shops with pro tools for wood working?

  17. Does anybody have info on the Z1000 from Kawasaki. Is it made in Thailand such as a couple other of their bikes? I am asking of course because I am wondering about the price. I got a 650R at the moment but would love to upgrade to the Z1000 if it is available for a decent (meaning "made in Thailand") price such as the 650R. What is the cost of this bike here. Anybody knows?

  18. Apparently Ducati will open a factory in Thailand:

    http://www.bikepoint.com.au/news/2011/road/ducati/ducati-to-open-thailand-factory-23158

It is called a "final assembly plant".... for now at least hat is what hey call it. What you guys think will this mean for pricing in Thailand? At the moment Ducaati's go for close to twice the price as in Europe. I am wondering what his will mean for bikes assembled in Thailand. What can we expect?

  19. Hi All,

If you are interested in playing field hockey in Bangkok give me a shout. We are a small hockey team with all kinds of nationalities combined.

I myself found it way too hard and taking too long to find a team here to play with when I was looking for one. Even though as I know now there is actually a field hockey scene in Thailand with teams from many provinces but most teams obviously from Bangkok. So I am posting this info on thaivisa to get more people joining. The teams here are mostly from universities or the Navy/Army/Air Force so that already makes it more difficult to play with them.

For us, everybody can join. We are playing regularly and we also play in the hockey league that is held every year by the Bangkok Royal Sports Club.

We also are able to get equipment if you don't have any. There are no places selling field hockey equipment in Thailand but there are a few people who are importing things and selling it here.

Besides, you can borrow a stick from one of us if you wanna come by and play but don;t have equipment yet.

We are all of pretty different levels and age groups so no worries about that.

Hockey season is mostly now and the next year until the rainy season starts.

For more info, send me a PM or Email to [email protected]

  20. Does anybody know a good place for upgrading my Ninja 650R? Nothing too sensational:

I am looking for a place that sells Yoshimura exhausts (I think they are not too hard to get here), a TRC slip-on is what i would like and I am looking for a tail replacement kit (as I wanna get rid of the huge fender and license plate mount at the back of the Ninja).

So I am wondering if anybody can recommend any place or is my best bet any of the big shops like Red Baron? i would prefer something that sells the stuff and then can also install it so I dont have to drive to 3 diffeernt shops to buy stuff.

  21. Im looking for an aftermarket muffler (slip on) and I am still undecided what to get. There are aftermarket pipes from Yoshimura, Arrow, 2Bros, Scorpion, Muzzy, anything else?

I am not sure which ones of those are available here in Thailand. Yoshimura of course but I dont know abou the other ones.

Now here is teh thing I am looknig for: a nice deep sound. Not too much....and the is the reason why the 2Bros pipe is already disqualified. I have read on a coulpe forums that all seem to say the 2Bros is too dam_n loud.

A the moment I am leaning towards the Yoshimur...seems one cant make anyting wrong with a Yoshi pipe (it would be the Yoshi TRC for the Ninja 650r). I also like the Yoshi sound kind of.

I have not heard much about the Scorpion pipe (but I like the look of it).

I have also not heard anything about the Arrow pipe.

Do any of you own one of these and can share their experience? How is the sound? Any noticeable performance increase (not really the main issue here but still interesting to know).

Are there any other pipes available that I didnt list above?

And most importantly. Any tips of shops that sell those pipes and also what is actually the cost here in Thailand. In the US prices seem to go from 350-450 USD for a slip on but I guess they are more expensive in Thailand?

    Thanks for any info shared!

  22. I read through all the info on this site and on one point I am still not quite clear as reports seem to be contradicting:

Is it a requirement to have permament residency status to apply for Thai nationality?

I am already living in Thailand 5 years and I have had yearly VISA extensions 4 times already, plus a work permit. The VISA I had was always a Non immigramt B visa.

Now on some posts I read that this would be sufficient to apply but on other posts I read that only a permament residency will work and that even non immigrant B visas for 5 years straight is not enough.

What is correct now? Can I apply or not?
