  1. Ok, This is while using Maxnets DNS servers

    nslookup1.txt

    Server: resolver1.opendns.com

    Address: 208.67.222.222

    Name: www.opendns.com

    Address: 208.67.219.101

    nslookup2.txt

    Server: DD-WRT

    Address: 192.168.1.100

    Name: www.opendns.com

    Address: 208.67.219.99

    nslookup3.txt

    Server: DD-WRT

    Address: 192.168.1.100

    which.opendns.com text =

"I am not an OpenDNS resolver."

Note: DD-WRT is my Router/DHCP/DNS server

    Hope That Helps

    Then run

    nslookup www.opendns.com. 208.67.222.222 >nslookup1.txt

    nslookup www.opendns.com. >nslookup2.txt

    nslookup -type=txt which.opendns.com >nslookup3.txt

Sorry about that sometimes a get wrong. these should work

  2. Well when my connection was upgraded to 3Mb (Premier) about 11 days ago, I instantly was getting speeds of around 320KBs. Later in the day I noticed wide speed fluctuations averaging about 250KBs.

When I was on 2MB (for about 14 months) I could max my connection out at any time at around 215KBs with out any speed drops. For the past 48 hours I have been able to get a steady 300KBs any time I have checked.

I don't rely on speedtest as nearly everything i do on the internet uses multiple connections and speed test is just a point to point test.

I download from a newsgroup to get a more accurate picture of my speed.

& connections to a US server and 3 to an EU server (eu server is always slower).

I just did a tracert to see where these server are and the US is in San Jose (California US) and the EU server is in Amsterdam. Oddly to get to the Amsterdam sever I am routed through the US first and then on to Europe.

For the most part I am able to watch live streams well also such as http://www.justin.tv/hd720p2 which is pretty high quality for a stream.

I really don't understand Why mine works so well, and so many others don't. Chiang Mai isn't exactly the internet hub of Thailand

I think it depends on the type of traffic and the destination. East coast US and Europe seem to be most affected based on some reports here.

When it all started mine was working fine too, then it finally hit me. Let's hope you can keep your connection running as long as possible.

  3. For most people ipconfig /all will only show their router as their DNS server, so that really doesn't mean anything.

Also while DNS problems can cause web pages to load slow or not at all, it won't affect speed tests as your traffic doesn't go though the DNS server.

Maxnet as a whole is not Blocking Open DNS as mine works. However it is possible it is being blocked by your local office.

Please please understand at the moment I am downloading a torrent at 300 K bytes per second not Bits and uploading at 45 K Bytes not bits.

TTT DNS servers are down in my region. They have now come out with a partial fix. If I try open DNS or anything else no commands are recognised. I have also tried the australian services all work for a short time as theyare in your cache. I would like to no if people from variouse outher places have no problems on Maxnet what DNS servers you are using after running ipconfig /all my snapshot today is great but still no dns servers.

Could this be a coincident dont Know have people with more Knowledge than me looking into it.

I wonder why people on opendns from Chang Mia and Sumiri are report the same problems. On the open dns forum.

At the moment if you live in my area wether you are being coned into paying more for premiar or not I get better Download speeds using Indy. 65% of the time.

Please try ipconfig /all and report what DNS server you are using.

  4. I am on Maxnet and using Open DNS without any problems in Chiang Mai.

And My Internet is working well Downloading at 315 KB/s as I type this.

Maxnet DNS servers are Down as can be seen from this output.

    ipconfig /all

If you change to open DNS you get no service.

If you check using network diagnostics it tells you the DNS servers can not be reached.

If you change to open DNS network check reports everything ok but you can not connect.

I have it being looked into by OPENDNS.

If they have a solution I will report back.

  5. As it turns out the speed upgrade is automatic beginning 'next month' (July) same as the upgrade last year from 1Mb to 2 Mb

The paper was in fact a new TOS agreement, the same you would sign if you were a new customer. Nothing about the upgrade.

Initially I was concerned that this was a bait in switch that many of the ISPs here used to pull. Offer a free or cheap speed upgrade when in reality you end up sharing it with twice as many people. The upgrade will still be premier and premier still has the same contention, so I am not too worried.

    Don't mess with it then.

Mine is as crap as it's ever been. Off and on like a light and terrible latency issues. I still have 2 down 1 up, to boot.

  6. My wife received a call from Maxnet today. They are upgrading our 2Mb Premier to 3Mb . First we have to sign their new TOS. Going down to the office at central airport plaza tonight to check it out.

My connection has been great for over a year I hate to mess with it.

Yes you are absolutely correct. I did not notice the "Premier" which is so boldly stated in the thread title. :)
  7. Wasn't that just for Indy customers?

When did the free upgrades for premier start? This is the first I have heard of it. No info on their website.
Rebooted the router/modem this morning, and it connected at 3072/1024 instead of 2048/1024. Do you think TT&T feels so guilty about providing shoddy service, they gave me a free upgrade??

No, hardly. Everyone got upgraded for free. They just took a long time to get around to upgrading you.

I'm referring to the free upgrade from 2 to 3 MB. That went into effect last month.

  9. A TTT rep came to the house last evening. The 'paperwork' was the exact same paper you get when signing up for an account and mentions nothing about speed upgrades. When questioned, the rep said that maybe someday there might be a speed upgrade and we needed to sign this to make sure we get it.

Of course that is not true they don't upgrade speed on a person by person bases.

After my wife asked a few questions, she was told she could go down to the main office and get answers and sign the paper there. I am sure the only change is their Terms of Service agreement and signing it will benefit them and not us.

TTT as an ISP has been exceptionally good and stable. But the people at their (Chiang Mai) offices have no knowledge about anything above collecting payments and they are not particularly good at that.

This is getting a bit off topic, thanks to me mainly.

To answer the op's question. Yes we got a call and had to go and sign new paperwork and others have reported the same.

    Still crap though. :)

  10. I am out of the Country at the moment. My wife just called me to let me know she had been contacted by TTT and they said that they are going to upgrade our service from 3Mb to 4Mb, but she needs to sign some paper work first.

Does anyone out there know what this is about?.

There are some of red flags.

    1. We don't have 3Mb service, we have 2Mb premier

    2. We did not have to sign paper work last year when they upgraded us from 1Mb to 2Mb

    3. They are bring the paper work to the house. They must really want us to do this.

Note: My 2Mb premier connection has always run excellent, I have always been able to max it our anytime I want.

  11. A few years back I used to eat at a small Issarn restaurant near the Chang Klan. Often there would be a group of Thai adults there, sitting around having a good time, plenty of empty large bottles of beer.

Through out the evening the small flower selling children would come to the table give the adults money and hang around for a few minutes before being sent back to the streets.

It didn't look to me like the children were contributing to their family, it looked like they were contributing to their parents alcoholism. If those kids are going to school they are going to school tired and in poor condition to learn. They will become their parents, it is a sad and vicious circle.

The woman who put her son through university by selling fruit to university students, so her son can have a better life than her and take better care of her when she is old is contributing to her family and that is where I would rather put my 20 baht.

And while where on the subject of begging..

I was eating at an outdoor restaurant once, and was accosted by one of the old ladies carrying a baby. She started poking me with her bony finger, asking for money. upon seeing this the owner of the establishment came out and said to her 'if you need money, I have some dishes you can wash'. She promptly left.

These woman are also not looking to earn money, they want money to be given to them for doing nothing. I imagine there is an 'organization' behind them, but I don't really know.

The Deaf selling pencils is a bit less of a scam in that you are getting something at 'near' fair market value, even though it is something you probably don't want and you are only buying it because you feel bad.

A better way to support the deaf would be to use the car/bike wash across the street from the school for the deaf. All the kids that work there are deaf and are the most financially disadvantaged from the school.

I use them often, You can be charitable with supporting beggars.

To get this back on subject.

2 to 3 of the city walking elephants are dropped off next to where I live almost every night. I live in the Jed Yod / CMU area, definitely not a high density tourist area.

My understanding is that bringing them to the city is the only way the Mahouts can afford to care for them. I am not sure if this is true, and if it is I am not convinced it outweighs the 'cruelty' of walking through the polluted, poorly paved city all night.

It is similar to the poor little children forced to sell flowers in the bars at night. They stay up so late they can't attend school.

Why do you think they can't attend school? Because they stay up so late, or because they don't attend school due to not being Thai? I don't see them as being exploited at all, simply they are a part of the family making money. I don't believe that they are kidnapped or taken from their families either. I'm fairly sure it does happen, but nothing to the degree that most people believe. Why do they believe this? Do they ask the kids or talk to anybody at all? No, they are simply customers who make up stories they think will be believed by others, or listen to them...

It sounds great to say, 'don't buy flowers', but why? It only keeps that family poor, never getting enough money to do anything else. But it is easier to have a 'good' reason not to spend the 20 baht, doesn't it?

Until the families can make money in a different way, they will be out there trying to sell flowers. The best thing anyone can do is buy the flowers, or make a donation to a group out there helping kids and their families. The worst you can do is what many of you are doing now, not buying the flowers at all, or creating bullshit stories so you don't feel bad about it...

  12. When I had my condo remodeled, all the demolition work was done by women. This included knocking down 2 concrete and brick walls and removing large sections of my balconies (Concrete and rebar).

My experience in Thailand has shown me that the women work harder than men at just about everything. :)

You know Ian, when I had my pond dug out there were men and woman with the women doing the digging and the men emptying those little black scoop things they use onto the pile of spoil, so I certainly agree in that instance.

  13. I clearly explained the process. Maybe you need to take an English course at Payap.

A master degree can be purchased for around 100,000 baht. Essentially you are paying someone to go through the program using your credentials. This is generally used by older people in jobs that require a degree to move up (government), but don't really need the 'education'.

This is usually done at smaller/cheaper schools. I have never heard of anyone doing this at a larger university like CMU. I would think there were too many chances of getting caught or too many people to bribe to look the other way.

I know quite a few people who paid for their master's thesis at CMU... Common practice really.

hey me too, very common practice especially with soft, willing, jungle pussy cats, yes it is a fact, my cat told me one of his jungle pussy cat friends came down from the mountain and trotted into CMU after getting his head patted she purred loudly and her check bones so high and exotic that the head of the Dept., a PHD , gave ther ,a beautiful pussy cat ,a MBA...my cat wants to go there now too! very common practice really, says my cat!!!

hey get a grip. I know aliens that hover over the moat at night too .but i can not give details only the stories....

stop with the "I know quite a few people" slander stuff unless you can list quite a few people here here please just can it!

but it does cost $ to go to any U if that s what you mean ....

jeez... o.k. where do i go to pay 100,000 baht what/which university office ?/ can you please help me ..where do i pay? this is just too stupid.

yeh and if someone wants to they can also rob a bank...

if someone ones to they can steal a car ..

many things in life can be done if you are a crook,a lier and a thief ..

  15. I generally find it easiest to download TV shows through utorrent using an rss feed to eztv.it . Once each show is set it will automatically download as soon as a new episode becomes available.

If you want TV shows through newsgroups try http://www.tvnzb.com/shows

Currently I am using Astraweb at US$11/Mo it Maxes out my 2Mb connection.

These are search results from Newzleech

The first two are not videos, they are just 1kb files. The rest are German.

  16. You may want to verify that the Payap MBA is an international MBA and not just a Thai MBA. A Thai MBA Won't Hold any value outside of Thailand and maybe not much value inside of Thailand.

Payaps main reason for existing is to serve students who can not pass the entrance exam, but have money and need a degree as Thai Businesses/Government require degrees for some pretty low end jobs.

Payap is not considered a very good school here, but the ladies will think you are rich.

    Hello,

I am seriously considering jumping into Payap University's MBA program.

Are there are TV members here that can comment on the school and its quality of teaching? Are there any graduates who have gone on to get good jobs here in Asia because of the MBA from Payap?

Any information, suggestions, comments, etc. about this would be appreciated before I sign-up and pay the money (70,000 per semester and 5 semesters needed).

    Thanks,

    Luke

  17. Kinokuniya Has it in stock at their Sukumvit store http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/guest/cgi-...A=07&LANG=E for 418 Baht. They deliver through out Thailand.

I read a book I borrowed from a mate here in Pai, I returned it of course but Ron died and most of his books were souvenired by friends and family.

I wanted to read the book again so I first looked on the Gecko Books website and they had it at the night market store, I called in last week but they explained that their website at very 'out of date' and they no longer had the book I wanted.

I then tried Amazon, they had many copies of the book both new and secondhand but after negotiating their website, they informed me that they cannot post to Thailand. no reason offered simply 'cannot'.

I tried amazon UK but same result.

The book is 'The Great Game' by Peter Hopkirk and is the story of the British and Russian adventures in Iran and Afghanistan in the 19th Century. Very interesting to me as I hitchhiked all through the part of the world in the '60s.

So if you want a special book in Chiang Mai, forget Amazon and hold your breath if you go to Gecko...

  18. ..title should be "Chiang Mai to Veintaine"..

Laos Air recently changed some of their flight times, so now there is only a 1:30 layover in Luang Prabang heading to Veintaine and a 40 Minute layover on the way back. As opposed to the nearly 4 hour and 3 hour layovers previously. Ticket price has gone down to under 11,000 Baht.

  19. Instead of digging around local shops looking for legit software. You may find it easier to order from Zest in Bangkok http://zest.co.th/www/main/index.php?p=1

    ~

We've already been through wasting time and money on the cheap knock-off copies and are willing to spend the money for good quality stuff.

Sorry for the Q rather than a Answer but........I was just getting ready to waste some $$ on the cheap stuff :o

I think so anyway as it is much cheaper than back home. I saw a shop upstairs in Airport Plaza near the Cinema.

Is this the wrong stuff to buy then? Did it just not play in your sons game units?

    Thanks

Pretty much all you can imagine. I just went thru five different ones we bought a while back; one is a 4-CD set and simply does not even try to open (I install them all on the HD of course), another requires a CD Code which of course is not included, the 3rd is an internet game and opens but will not access its own site and the remaining two were blocked by our BitDefender Suite as being contaminated with viruses and trojans.

His system is not the problem - I have been in computers for a very long time and his is even better than mine and has all the bells and whistles. I just installed a new SATA drive and the lastest update of BitDefender and have him Wi-Fi'd to my server.

Pirated copies are cheap but not worth the hassle for me. DVD movies rarely work perfectly, sometimes quitting just before the end or look like they were filmed by somebody sitting in a movie theater and I won't even think about putting copied computer programs in my system. I don't worry too much about our kid's system as I just set restore points and clone the primary drive.

My thanks to both you and Tigerbalm and I will do some more looking around..
