  1. When I went to Laos in April there was a person in front of me holding around a dozen application She left the line and came back a few minutes later with someone from the embassy who opened a second line with her at the front. The people with her did not have to wait in line but they did have to go to the desk when she called them.

Lots of travel agents arrange visas for their clients here in Thailand. Hard to believe there are none in Laos.
  2. Alternatively, You could get a Double entry tourist visa, then you would only need to go to Vientiane every 6 months with a trip to Mae Sai after 3 to trigger the second entry.

It also looks like you can only get 15 days now at the border for those who do not have a visa.

So unless the rules have changes since March this year then i can see no reason to have to go anywhere else for this purpose alone.Than Chiang Mai.

It was all going nicely until your silly message, sir.

I originally asked where was the most popular place to get a new non o visa with the expat community of Chiang Mai. Had there have been a flight from CM to Udon, I would have taken it but there is no longer a flight along this route, and I refuse to go via Bangkok and pay extra.

I now have my new non o, and am content, as well as with being back in Chiang Mai, thank you.

Is one of the highlights of your life verbally gunning people down on thaivisa.com sir? If so, then you need to get a life!

No, it isn't. I was just very puzzled as to why you didn't go to Mae Sai which is apparently only a four hour journey, or to Chiang Mai as princealbert suggests which might be a half hour journey. I was seeking this information as it would be of use to me and you have ignored both questions. I'm sorry my poor attempt to inject a little humour into my post strikes you as being ill intentioned. I must try better next time.

    Apology accepted.

Mae Sai, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) is good only for the one month stamp. As far as I'm aware, there is no Thai Consulate on the other side, or even close to the border, which would be no good for me, as I need one of those outlets in order to apply for my Non O visa.

So looks like it's Vientiane again in three months...

  3. Unfortunately there are no longer any Chiang Mai - Udon flights.

    hi.

i'm in chiang rai province,i must do a visa run soon,

does anybody know if i can get a thai visa in luang prabang,

i know there's no embassy but is there a travel agent that does thai visas,

this would save me going all the way to vientiane,

    would appreciate any help.

No can do, but enjoy LP anyway, interesting place, I lived there in another life time.... Vientiane, too, it's OK.

FYI, might be less expensive for you, if that's a concern, to head down to C. Mai, fly over domestic to Udorn, then head up to Nong Khai and Vientiane from there. Not as interesting, I must say, but....

  4. It would be more of a Bummer if the courts made important decisions based on how it would affect tourism.

If true, what next, eh? The gov suporters are bound to go nuts.

I really hope this doesn't get too violent but it could turn into a real nightmare. There goes tourism to Thailand for possibly years to come. Bummer... :o

  5. If you have a receiver capable of HD, True/UBC already Broadcasts 1 channel in HD (1080i). Live Sports on RS100.

So there is a possibility that there will be more within the next decade.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but HD is not available (nor likely to be anytime in the next decade) in Thailand.

  6. It changed about 6 months ago I believe.

    Good post lordfoul but ?

When you come back you can pick up your passport on the right side (across the road from where you dropped it off.)

the last time i was there ( over two years ago ) you collected your passport from where you handed it in.

    things change :o

    fabianfred.

follow pics 1 to 4 and you cant go wrong

    enjoy the trip .... dave2

  7. Everything is now done at the Bridge.

You get a stamp out from Thai immigration on the left side of the bridge as you leave Thailand.

Then you cross over to the right side of the bridge to the Burmese immigration where you pay either USD$10 or 500 Baht.

They then take your Picture and your Passport and give you a temporary Visa.

You can then go to the market if you like.

When you come back you can pick up your passport on the right side (across the road from where you dropped it off.)

Then Proceed to Thai Immigration on the left side and get your 30 day Stamp.

  8. Giganews also supports port 80 and 23. You may have better luck with one of those.

I use two ISP's - True at my home and CS Lox at the office - both are ADSL and work ok.

However, I cannot download any newsgroup articles with either. I am not seeking to access the ISP's news server since I know they don't have any but I want to access msnews.microsoft.net and other newsgroups hosted on Giganews server for which I pay each month.

Until recently I could get the articles using True but now I get time outs and only a few articles download very slowly.

Are they throttling it or trying to close it off ?

    Any ideas ?

  9. I paid just under 12k for round trip Chiang Mai to Vientiane (by way of Luang Prabang). For me it's worth it to skip out on the road trip.

hmm..but thats basing it on Thai Airways costs, which is nearly 10k for the round trip.

A round trip with Nok Air will cost around 8kbaht (and not much over that for minibus etc), AirAsia about 6.5k baht.

Agree that is a pretty tedious way to get there though.

I dont know how much the laoairline cost is because a long time ago that i took it and at the moment the page on their website showing the flight price for a return trip wont come up for me.

  10. You can also get to Vientiane by way of Luang Prabang on Lao Air.

It's just under 12,000 baht Round trip (at least when I bought my ticket)

Travel time is just over 5 hours there and just under 5 hours back (Most of it is the layover)

  11. I know a couple of years ago you could give Thai Immigration a photo copy of your info page (and 100 baht) they would stamp it and hold your passport, you would give the copy to The Burmese official (and their fee) and then you could come back and get your passport (undisturbed). But I haven't tried this lately.

Hello.. I am a newbie here :o but I"ve been in Thailand awhile...

A few years ago you could go up to Mai Sai and cross over into Burma without disturbing you visa.

I have a single entry Non-IM B VISA... Can I still go into Burma for a day and come back on the same VISA?

    ???

    Thanks

    ~KOLMER

  12. I am curious as to why you think the problem is Maxnet and not your shared connection with the rest of your building?

Your first post said you had a direct connection, now you are saying it's shared by your building. How can both be true?

Do have a router in your room that you are control of or is your building in control?.

Maybe Thailand is fine and your building is becoming communist.

that's why a lot of people take the smallest connection available, if you pay more , you don't get more... for your trouble, someone has a problem similar to yours few days ago , he solved it by calling the maxnet support, it was a mistake in their config for his connection profile.

Thanks. I'm going to be mentioning it to certain people.

BTW, I have a shared connection that's included in my rent so I can't complain to Maxnet directly, but it's obviously at least a Premier or Business acct, which means there is no excuse for the pinched bandwidth. The owners of this place don't realize how much they're being ripped off all the time by TT&T. I don't think they even use the internet. And the girls at the front desk who do are too polite to complain...

  13. The 55 Baht Registered option is for proof of delivery not for Tracking. Yes, the Thai Postal site will only verify that they processed your package but the receiving country will have a record of the package being delivered (some via their websites some not).

Oh and the registered 55 baht option is a commplete waste of money , they give you a tracking number but when you enter this in to the Thai post office track and trace all it confirms is that it was posted or received at the post office.
  14. Yep, right over my head.

Its a little bit of english sarcasm I guess it went over your head :D Do you really think 40 guys decided to take a Nap after drinking all night LOL I'll bet we have a few victims here on TV I'll buy the first member a Beer if he admits he woke up with a Buffalo attached to his own member :o
  15. I think I will save my commendations for those that don't get into thier car when they are drunk.

We really must commend those guys that decided to pull over and take a nap in there cars since they were drunk I think thats very responsible of them and to be accosted like that is terrible.

If more people were so concientious then we would have a lot less accidents caused by drink driving

Now at least they can take a nap in there car without waking up to see some buffalo chomping on there tackle

  16. Not a problem, I knew what you meant.

Yes, same here. If you change the language to Thai (still english audio) it is normal levels.
Anyone else have a problem with Star World's sound level?

It appears to be about 20% of the level it was - almost inaudible until I turn the volume to maximum.

    This started yesterday.

Sorry, Lordfoul - I quoted the wrong post earlier. I should've quoted yours (above) and said "Brilliant - thanks!"
