  1. Ok I agree with ball, as for LCD what size is good? im thinking minimum 20 inch wide screen , do they make 20,21,22, or 23? I will definetly pay a visit to that shop and compare prices, but will buy from them eventually^^ I dont know too much about the case and power supply and you enlighten me? I want ICE COLD SUPER FREEZING CASE AND A DUAL TURBO FAN IF POSSIBLE, Im looking for high quality stuff for the case and Power.

Your budget is already over so you don't need to blow cash on case thats overkill. Go with something like CoolerMaster case and Enermax power supply.

    Intel CPU (3 Gig) 7000

    Motherboard 4000

    Graphics Card 6000

    HDD 3200

    DVD drive 1000

    Case 2000

    Pwr Sup 4000

    RAM (2Gig) 2000

    Monitor ?

    Keyboard ?

    Mouse ? (Don't go cheap)

    Speakers ?

I think you need to spend 40k baht (give or take a couple) to build something good.

  2. As above mentions Busitek is good shop. I buy all parts from them when building a new PC.

You can try and shop for the best price but they are pretty much the same if all the same parts are specified when talking to each shop. Remember don't let them talk you into something you don't want. Also plan on spending at the top end of your budget if not a little over if you want something good. You might take time and read: www.tomshardware.com or www.anandtech.com

I would go with the following:

    Intel 3.0 Ghz CPU

Samsung monitor with low response time(5ms or under). I have 206BW and very happy.

    Seagate HDD

2 Gig of RAM minimum (4 if going with Vista) I would stay XP OS

    ASUS P5K motherboard

    Nvidia 9600 GT 512MB

Do Not go cheap on the case and power supply

    DVD drive up to you

  3. I thought they put a couple extra trains in service during the morning and evening peak hours.

One possible cause for some of the problems is they allow the trains to bunch up. Once I waited quite a while at On Nut for a train to finally arrive. A second train arrived just as we departed for Phra Kanong. Before reaching Phra Kanong we passed 3 more trains headed for On Nut.

  4. ^

    thank you.

i would if i knew what i was doing.

it's the processor and motherboard that i find most confusing.

With your experience I would go with an off the shelf name brand. Your needs are that great so pick one that has the features you want and provides a long warranty. I would suggest one that has Intel CPU and chipset and at least 2 GB of ram.

  5. I use AIS 1-2 Call Edge when at the house 30km north of Korat and get varied performance. Download speeds would be 12-18Kb in the morning but slow down to dial up modem speeds in the evening. Over the last month or two performance has shown some improvement during the evening with speeds in the 6-7Kb range but that could change.

  6. I was refused check-in by Qantas on a flight from MEL-BKK because I didn't have an outbound ticket from BKK. What really pissed me was the fact I had a valid retirement visa for Thailand but they argued it only had two days remaining and it might not get renewed. No amount of talk could change their mind so I was forced to buy a one way refundable ticket BKK-Singapore so I could check-in.

  7. I would not just give them a list of specs and let them work. Its better if you decide before hand which parts go into the PC. You don't want some no name motherboard or graphics card installed so research first. If your not up to the task then be a little bit more specific about the specs, what software you will be running and how much you have to spend I'm sure a few people will recommend specific components. You can then take that list down and check prices before giving to anyone to assemble for you.

I always assemble my own so have no idea about assemble cost but I would think if you buy all the parts from one shop they should assemble for free unless you want lots of software installed.

Pantip is okay on a week day with little hassle except for the movie guys.

You can take a look at this site for prices: www.busitek.com They are on the fourth floor of Pantip and I have bought most of my parts from them.

  8. My host PC does have a LAN connection to internet at apartment building but I have to log on/off because pay fixed fee for so many hours so cannot leave logged in all the time when gone. I then must contend with the building firewall and dynamic IP. Thats why I decided to try phone modems but I still didn't know if I would be able to dial my apartment extension after building answered.

  9. Thanks Monty for the answer. I should have know because during one of my tries I think there was a message about activating data service with provider.

I have a prepaid not post paid account so I guess my little experiment is over.

  10. I can't imagine why you would need to bother. Unless you are bring the laptop back to Thailand in its original packaging, what differentiates you from the thousands of people who routinely enter Thailand daily with a laptop and with no corresponding hassle from Thai customs?

    Ditto

I travel out/in 6 times a year on average and never had problem one with customs. In fact I have never even been stopped by customs.

  11. I wish to access a remote host computer using pcAnywhere software in the following configuration if possible.

Host computer is connected to landline via internal modem and pcAnywhere running waiting for a call. My remote computer would be connected to either a Motorola K1 or Samsung E690 using Bluetooth.

Both mobiles work just fine when used for GPRS over Edge connection.

I have tried both with pcAnywhere and get the same results with either. When I tell pcAnywhere to connect a status screens comes up on the PC that says connecting and then dialing. At about the same time I see the phone display light up and say dialing with the proper number displayed. Wtihin a second or two, long before a connection can be made, the phone hangs up with no message and the PC display says no answer and disconnecting.

I have also tried both phones using Hyper Terminal in WinXP with the same indications.

I hope someone can offer a few suggestions on how I can get this setup working.

  12. Good lookin -- thanks for the advice everyone -- I'll prolly just have to get a hotel for 3 days or so and walk the area(s) on foot. It seemed like an okay area when I was there in person 6 months ago.......

To the person who lived in the soi 11 area -- Expensive, no? Anyone care to give a broad price range within close proximity of bts?

    Thanks again everyone,

    Tony

Should be able to find a place within walking distance of BTS for around 8k-20k baht depending on size and number of rooms.

I've lived on Suk Soi 75/1 close to 4 years now and find it a great area.
