  1. Chiang Mai is a CAPITAL of vegetarianism here :) It has about 60 restaurants - from Western for farangs, with foods full of onions and garlic, to Thai Jay (not so healthy too - full of meat supplements).

BKK too, but it too big, so - they aren't so close, as in Chiang Mai.

For Chiang Mai I recommend to buy Nancy Chandler map - all veg places is marked on the map, don't know, how's good her map of BKK.

About other cities: it's completely not a problem. We can come to almost any place and order jay food there. Of course, misunderstanding happens, but very rarely, if you have experience to talk with them.

About 2 levels: the 1st one is mangsawirat. It's not a pure vegetarianism, they use eggs, so be ready, if you don't eat them.

But pls, keep in mind: restaurant food not so healthy, if you are vegetarian because of health reasons. As I said - Western and Thai kitchen here concentrated more on spices, meat substitutes, cakes, ice cream, than on vegetables and fruits.

    P. S. About me: active vegetarian during the last 8 years.

  2. Hello, dear Thaivisa members!

We are happy to recommend you to try Thai Food Flashcards Iphone applications. It's a set of virtual cards of the most popular Thai foods, each card designed specially to help you to order a dish in a local restaurant, where staff don't speak in English and you - in Thai.

You will get 31 useful flashcards with a variety of Thai meals, including every Thai dish one must try, all loved by locals who eat them everyday.

    Each flashcard contains:

    ✔ photo of a dish

✔ Thai name (show it to the waiter when you order)

✔ English transcription of the name (try to pronounce it to the waiter)

    ✔ English name

    ✔ Short description.

✔ Pictorials of possible dish components (click on them and demonstrate to the waiter)

The application offers not only flashcards of noodles, rice, soups, salads, main dishes, but there are two national Thai drinks - coffee and Thai tea and three additional cards that allow you to give additional information for your order: "Please don't add chili," "Please cook vegetarian food," "No MSG, please."

    App price is $1.99

    Download app from Itunes

  3. We made an app, which will help tourists to order popular Thai foods in local restaurants. If you have a popular blog and can help us - pls, send your request for a promo code in a PM. Don't forget to mention your blog address.

Not sure, is it ok to post here a link to the app, so - I don't post, if moderators can allow it, I will post.

  4. Hi!

I'm played squash only 1 time, want to try more (for example, 1 time per week). If somebody look for a partner and have patience to teach me basics of game - contact me. Actually, I know principles of the game, and I play other active games, so, hope, teaching will be easy.

  5. Hello!

Heard about night contact lenses long time ago, but didn't know, how it calls. Now I did some research in Internet and wondering - is there any CM clinic, which use this treatment.

For those, who don't know, what is it:

is the use of rigid gas-permeable contact lenses, normally worn only at night, to improve vision through the reshaping of the cornea. This method can be used as an alternative to eyeglasses, refractive surgery, or for those who prefer not to wear contact lenses during the day. The latter may be due to discomfort from working in air-conditioned or dusty environments, from extended computer usage which reduces blink rates and tear film production or from displacement or loss during sports activities.

Looks suitable for a CM polluted air, isn't it?

I found the only one mention of the technology in a relationship to Thailand: some BKK doctor are listed in the international ortho-K practitioners DB. Wrote him mail - of course, he don't answer. But, as I got, for first months you have to be observed by your doctor, to fit lenses.

  6. Think about buying of maxiscoot, but want to do testdrive. Couldn't find any motorbike rental shop with them. Is there any in CM? Or, maybe, can somebody give me scooter for a short testdrive (10-15 minutes, just to get impression)?

  7. Nienke: I know this phrase. But yesterday I had talk with barista from nearest coffee shop, he confused me: he don't know anything about his neighborhood.

gotlost: lol. Best in Chiangmai - green, chilly, hilly, quiet.

qwunk89: if I turn to the right - it will be an uphill road with nothing but wildlife conservation project and private houses.
