  1. I.ve been using XP for 10 years.

All my Google sites on my computer tell me that XP is no longer supported.

So,perhaps I should change the operating system, although I do admit that at an age of 77 I am not looking forward to ANY CHANGES.

SO, what do you 'experts' suggest

  2. I am NOT a technical guy and after reading a lot of posts on this forum and on other internet sites, needless to say I AM CONFUSED.

I am proposing to install either EXPat TV or I LIkeHD.

My internet connection...sinet...gives me a good picture on my computer and I will be relying on the sinet router to take the 12 meter signal to the TV.

I am ,at this moment favouring Expat TV because their set top box seems idea for me.

So does anyone have any advise??

  3. I've been watching via PSI/Cth this season, but now its not available .

This morning the CTH programs are no more.

I'me not a fan of internet, too used to my big screen TV.

Of course it does depend on CTH still transmitting the season out.

It appears that I can purchase a CTH box here in Chiang Mai now...so that will mean a layout of 3000 baht just to see the last games

I am also able to watch Sky News.

    Any thoughts???.

  4. I dont know if my present experiences will help.

I have the CTH Beyond channels with my PSI box on the C band.

This has been cutting out frequently this last week. My original installer has...or will be...getting a replacement PSI box because it is under warranty and will connect it to the KU band.

So I will be getting my Premier league games.

OK I can afford this but it does appear to be an expense that many will not welcome. CTH are..have been treating their customers very badly. Back home they would be getting lawsuits by the thousands....but in Thailand ! ??

  5. Well,I went to Promenada to file my Address ,OK 6 months late but so what.

Went to the correct desk on the left. Two women waiting and sitting on the chairs,no one behind the desk.

Waited 30 mins or so,still no one behind the desk.

Went to an officer at another desk and said that people were waiting so why was no one attending to them.

Immediate attention !! some one came and started to process the two waiting. What the notice on the entry said processing time 3 mins, their time was 9 mins. They left and I was then attended to.

Refused to sitdown and loudly told her what a load of nonsense this was since my landlord had confirmed my living there since May and that they had my last 3 90 day reports giving my address.

The officer glanced at my papers and stamped the bottom of the sheet.Tore it off and gave me the slip....Time taken 2 mins.

So, I too have 3 slips of paper in my passport. Lucky me!!

3 slips? 90 day, TM 28/30 and...... Just interested what the 3rd slip is. Something I've missed? I'd hate my slip collection to be falling behind.

    Arrival/departure form, TM28, 90 day. 1....2...3.

  7. Having read these reports of the TM28 and TM 30 I though it a good idea to fill in a TM28 and go to Promenada next week to present it.

I fiiled in the form using the dates on my pasport and reentry card.

These are from 4 years ago.I hav'nt been out of CM since.

So I am offering this form that I should have done 4 years ago'.Am I going to be fined??

I did think of saying i had only recently moved, but my last 2 90 day reports have my new address. I moved in in May.

I have contacted my landlord about his TM30 but he lives abroad and I have no idea if he ever sent a TM30.

    So what advice/Comments please

Incidentaly last month I did a 90 Day and 'retirement" extension...no one asked for the TM forms.

  8. My first visit to Promenada for retirement extension .. I will not name the agent I used....see why later in this report

    .

The agent had arranged for an afternoon appointment at 2 PM.

Took me some time to find the Immigration departments. There was about 100-150 people milling about.

I was surprised that the office was larger then I had expected, noticed that it seemed well signed for each requirement, although the Tannoy system was not good .

Looked into the 'notorious' G4 office, they seemed busy with perhaps 1 dozen people in there.

At my appointed time my agent took me to the 'retirement desk where my papers were scrutinised...all ok

My agent then handed money to the immigration guy....now I was not partricularly inspecting this transaction, but it appeared to me that more then the 1900 baht was handed over.It seemed like there were 3 x1000 baht notes, but I could well be mistaken.

To conclude the interview my papers were handed to another guy who also took my photograph.

I was pleased with this experience. My agent did what was needed.but the delay in getting my passport back was annoying.and I dont see why the person who'S job it is,could not be present

I could see that given time, the Promenada Immigration set-up could be acceptable to most.

Incidentaly I wandered into Rimping afterwards and found Rabbit !! Not seen that anywhere else and hav'nt had a rabbit stew for ages.

  9. Had a psi box today. The installer used my existing True dish for reception and some fiddling with the cables. CTH signal all OK and will be OK for EPL games and ARSENAL tonight.

If I have understood correctly,..??? the PSI monthly is much less than the CTH monthly.

Since the panic is now over I can get back tto my usual existence...as long as CTH dont fold until the end of the season

  10. I have my installer here at the moment.

It seems that all or most Thai channels are ok but not any channels from outside Thailand.

Since I never use these channels ...only the stadium channels and the News channels thats not much use to me

  11. seems like I am not the only one.

Tuesday morning CTH all OK......tuesday evening...no picture just an on screen message NO VALID ENTITLEMENT.

My account with CTH is up to date and next months bill already paid.

I am told my original installer is coming this afternoon to put things right.

We will see,but now having read these posts I am not confident.

  12. Does anyone know if there are any shops in Chiang Mai that sell these hanging posters with chinese characters printed on it

I am fed-up with plain walls and a few of these would break -up the wall.

Years ago I bought some in Hong Kong

  13. That would depend on how honest you are. Are you worried about not paying for something that you have used, or having to pay for something that you thought you'd gotten away with?

I dont look upon it as a matter of honesty but when if...the fault comes to their attention,I would be landed with a big bill in the future.

I guess they would not thank me for drawing it to their attention !!!

And since this is Thailand ...the mind boggles as to their reaction.

If the meter was over recording ,thats probably more what they are used to.

  14. I moved to my new condo address in April and for the 1st 3 months my electric bill seemed ok when compared with my usage in my old house.

In both cases I am on the government tariff.

Last month the bill was down to 650 baht...the temperatures were down and air con usage was only in the bedroom for an hour...so I welcomed the lower bill

This months bill was 165 baht.!!

As far as I can see the temps were similar and I was expecting a similar bill to last months...but not only 165 baht.

I cook all my own meals using hotplates and a halogen oven. I have 2 large refrigerators,a large TV and floor fans which I keep on 24 hours a day

So.. To me the meter is not correct.

I checked it myself and the reading seemed ok.

So,to prevent the shock of a very large bill in the future I think of having the meter checked by the electric company.

    Good ideal or not ?

  15. An UPDATE.....I should have mentioned that my hearing, especialy on the phone is nil so I correspond by email when its available.

Anyhow after 6 days they sent a reply asking for my full name, email address and phone number. I replied with the warning about the phone.

Next day they replied saying that they HAD sent the email but not to my current address, and they would send the number by email to my current address.

I did a check on all my previous email accounts and found no emails from them.

    Needless to say...no email recieved.

After 3 weeks of being messed about the email with the number arrived.

  17. I applied for an internet account. I handed in all the completed forms to their office at BigC,...was told it would be sent to head office for actioning.

6 days later the pin number arrived but no account identifiction number...which they say is sent by email.

No email has been recieved,so I contacted them to complain.

They replied that they could not resend due to 'security reasons"

I asked them that if this was the case then maybee they should start again with my application and send a fresh pin by post and email me the account Ref.

    NO REPLY AFTER 5 DAYS.

  18. Just a note to the mail-in 90 Day subject My next renewal was 17th

I mailed in my forms to the old office on Tuesday 11th and received the new slip today 18th.

I cant understand anyone not using the mail-in method unless they get some pleasure from a self inflicted uncomfortable experience at the new immigration office

  19. I used DHL. Costs £37 but is properly tracked all the way, they even supply the envelope.

Post office only track to Heathrow then nothing.

Takes about 5 days with DHL.

Once it leaves the UK and after it arrives in Thailand it can be tracked on the Thai post website (EMS)

I recently had new UK bank debit cards sent here.No receipt after 10 days. I emailed my complaint to Thai Post, they replied with a complete list of where my post was and it arrived 2 days later.

So no complaints from me about Thai Post.
