Indeed it is, you may know it as a GFCI, ELCB or one of a myriad of other acronyms dependent upon where in the world you originate. Generally in Thailand it's known as a "Safe-T-Cut" which is actually a brand name.

Do you have one? Look in your electrical panel for a breaker with a "Test" button, no test button = no RCD. Go and look now!

If you don't have one I strongly recommend that you get one installed, all the big box stores sell them and most will install for you too. It may well save your life as it probably would this poor chap.

I have worried about this quite a bit since I got an electric 'weed whacker' on-line...the only way to power it is by a heavy duty extension cord..all of our electric panels have Safe-T-Cut circuit breakers, but I never really knew they could help prevent electrocution. I am still going to be very careful when the grass is moist.

I'm living in Na Mom district of Songkhla, bordering Chana and Na Thawee districts in the so called red zone. It's called the deep south, no need for a map. To the OP; i prefer Hat Chalathat, south of Hat Samila. It's also good for swimming and has a lot of seafood restaurants, less busy though (except Sat. evening/nights).

Technically accurate, but most people refer to both Samila and Chalathat beaches collectively as Samila beach.

Weill certainly do, looking forward to it now, & sharing the best seafood with my Chiang mai lady,my previous visits I visited the "dark side" as it was known then , the cosmos, offshore bar, & the office , are they still happening ?

     Just interested, memories !

    Cheers SS.

The 'dark side' is still there, but nothing like it used to be...very quiet. Most of the services  are still available. OffShore was a boutique for a long while, not it is a kiwi expat bar. Cosmos is the same, but not many staff. Not sure about Office...anyway, still good for a trip down memory lane but don't expect a wild night in any of those bars...

  4. You'll be very surprised by all the changes if you haven't been there for 15 years. It's generally very safe -- the main threat to your safety will be on the roads. I hope you enjoy your trip and please let us know how it goes.

  5. Just a head's up that the next Thai Fight will be held in Haad Yai at the Lan Khon Meaung Arena in Klong Hae.

I noticed they put up a huge billboard promoting it here in Ranode.

Unfortunately the fights promo website (http://www.thaifight.com/ ) doesn't include basic info like the fight card or how much the cost of admission is...

Anyway, these are usually pretty big events playing to nationalist elements and are televised on Channel 3...You can expect a few farang boxers to get their asses kicked...

  6. 'haa roey!' (ฮาโรย) is an old Southern  interjection of excited exasperation similar in meaning to 'Jeez', 'Just do It' or 'Get on With it'...this came out of my wife's mouth as she was playing Snakes&Ladders with a bunch of 7-year-olds...Also, that game in Thai is called 'bandai-ngoo' (ladder-snake for the literally)

  7. I think you really need to get a look at the raw copy and get a feel for it first, rather than say 'so much per page' or 'so much for word'. It can range from basically coherent and just in need of a grammatical touch-up to mind-numbing incoherence.

I have been doing this for extra income for many years now and have built up a small base of repeat customers for theses, academic papers and the like.

In fact, the extra income made though contacts is one of the few good things to come out of my university teaching stints, which never seem to pay well.

Another factor to consider when giving a cost estimate is how long you have to complete it.

    Yes

Yes indeed...., I fancied a bit of a sea journey but looks like I'll be combining rail, bus and ferry...., if the Hua Hin > Pattaya ferry is indeed still 'a goer'. Whichever way I'll still just sit back and enjoy the journey.

Please let us know how it works out...I have been interested in the service for some time.

Reminded of this one the other day, definitely our region.   'kot' which works just like the English "very" as far as syntax, it precedes the adjective.  Which is strange that syntax would change as well, but it it can not follow the adjective like 'mak, mak mak, mak hmai'

'kot nao' - very cold - nao mak mak

'kot rawn' - very hot - rawn mak mak

I'm guessing it may be spelled 'คต', but unsure at this time.

I am pretty sure that's one of the words spilling out of my mo-in-law all the time, so will keep my ears perked up to try and catch it in action. Thanks once again.

Total overkill, would be a white elephant.

If they want to do something 'environmentally friendly' they should concentrate on cleaning up the city, the river & canals and in educating the people of Hat Yai to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.

It sounds like they are eager to catch Phuketitis...

  13. I finally got to check that place out yesterday. It is convenient to the Immy office, just a few clicks west. The store had a wide selection of coconut oils, but none were cheaper than you can get them online.

The staff all behaved as if they really didn't want to be there.

I was also in the market for real coffee. They only had Doi Thung, which was way overpriced.

I don't understand why there is no place in Hat Yai to buy cheap coffee beans like they have in Phuket.

Anyway, thanks again for the tip Stocky. If I find a better deal I will let you all know.
