  1. Shooting should have been compulsary for all the grossly sinning catholic priests, and abusive nuns that have come to unholy light over the last few decades. My catholic grandmother would be whirling in her grave, she was absolutely mortified when her church's new father got his girlfriend pregnant!!(this is Mrs Begsaresponse posting on not signed out hubby's whatever it's called!!) :o

  2. Soi 6 just got notice Friday will be a closing day!

Thanks for the info...so have to rethink my schedule :o

Is this because soi 6 is Soi 6? Does it mean everyone has to close. Normally if a bar etc has to close the police issue a notice to that affect!

  3. You no longer need photos, as with the new plastic drivers license they will take your photo. residenYou need a letter of residency from Immigration, 200 Baht, a medical certificate 50-100 baht from any local doctor, copies of your passport, ID page, Visa page, and allowed to date page. If you have an international license bring that with you as you would not have to take any tests if your international license allows you to drive whatever you are applying for.

That's about it as far as I can remember.

    Barry

However you do need photographs when you go to Immigration for your letter of Residency. Also the time I took my International driving licence I had to get all the page photocopied. And if you plan on applying for car and motor bike licence each one is a seperate licence...so take twice the paper work!

  4. Sounds good....Being a Dark Sider, which beer garden ?

From one Dark Sider to another...its found at the entrance to Walking Street, on the right almost below the big tv screen. Walk through all the little bars inside and at the end all will be revealed.

  5. I started this topic with a view to expressing positive experiences as I was sure that others, like me, who live here could share their positive experiences too.

In my opinion there are too many farang bitching about Thai people. The bitching in itself says nothing about them!

I didn't say life is all that is wonderful here in Pattaya I simply wanted to share my experience.

If members of the forum have nothing positive to contribute to this discussion about positive experiences then keep dribble to yourself, as I can read about it on other topics.

  6. I also wondered how long it would take for someone to start!

This topic was to reflect my positive experiences here in Pattaya. However I do realise that some farang have not had the same experience. But I also expect them to know they are not the only people here in Pattaya....living the life in the land of smiles.

    :o

  7. Yes ...another puncture. near Pattaya Tai on the pitch where they normally have the market. Had come back from an afternoon in Tucome to to find the tyre as flat as a pancake. It was getting dark couldn't see anything. Two Thai men and a woman came over from their cafe gave us a torch and brought over an industrial size jack. Gave me a hand to get the wheel off and on to the bed of the truck. When I had finished asked me if I wanted to wash my hands (had kept their cafe open so I could) so I did. However I failed to get them to take any money...they just would not have it!!!

Their help gave me a real lift :o

  8. I left my house on Nern Plub Waan 5.45 pm got to my destination on Beach Road 7.45 pm. I drove down Soi Siam Country Club cut across to Nern Plub Waan on to Sukumvit aiming to cut down Pattaya Tai. Hit a wall of traffic. I think everyone and their granny was on this !!!! :o

Got down Pattaya Tai but it took time. Cut along Sai Song from there to about soi 7 the water was over a foot deep in places....too much crap being thrown down the drains, the positioning of the drains too high water cannot get down some. However the amount of rain we have had over the last week has been shocking.

    Hope it stops soooooooooooooooooon

  9. I am aware that there have been much said regarding the negative experiences of Farangs in Pattaya on the receiving end of local people.

I have to report my experience of yesterday. Driving down Pattaya Kland I was aware that the steering in the car was not quite right. Turned into the Siam Commercial Bank on Sai Song and parked to be greated by one of the security pointing out I had a flat tyre. To my shame I couldn't remember how to change the wheels over. So by this time the two security guards set about it and within a few minutes the job was done. Not only did they not want any financial reward but gave me directions to a repair shop near the top of the Klang.

When I got there it was pouring rain,cats/dogs didn't have a look in,however the three young lads set about it repairing the puncture, taking off the spare, putting on the proper wheel, fixing the spare tyre to its proper location under the bed of the truck. I said to the boss how much ( I have to admit i was expecting megga cost) but he said 80 baht!

    I couldn't believe my ears.

I should say that I did persuade the security guards to accept a financial reward for their help. And also gave more than 80 Baht for the lads fixing my tyre.

What could have been a nightmare was a joy :o

  10. In my opinion you must always always be on your guard when on a Baht bus, especially if it is jam packed. Be aware of anyone sitting next to you who has a coat or something like this over their arm. They use this to sneak their other arm through and into your pocket. Also be aware of any distractions they may have like a baby,or if one is pregnant, or look at that over there.

My advice is leave your wallet and most of your cash at home. When the money runs out its time to go home!

And yes the route from Jomtiem to Dolphin Roundabout is particularly hazardous. If you catch one in the act put your finger on the buzzer and keep it ringing the driver will stop, ask him to catch them then call the police. Be cautious one or more of them may have a knife. They do tend to be women. This doesn't mean you have to be a gentleman! If you are going to grab one hold both wrists and do not leg go until the police arrive.

  11. I suggest you approach a Foreign Police Volunteer with these pictures.

You can find some on Walking Street wearing black uniforms.

I believe they will be helpful and follow-up on this.

I suggest you ask them to organize a "sting" operation on a Baht Bus with you along to ID these SOB's.

They have the power of arrest and will do it --- knife or no knife

Just to clarify the police assistants on Walking street are not Foreign Police Volunteers. They are linked into Tourist Police. And yes they do have powers of arrest. The Foreign Police Volunters as in Soi 9 do not have powers of arrest but will do all they can to assist you. They are linked into The Royal Thai Police.

  12. I have just returned from receiving my 5 year driving license for a car. And from this experience I would suggest the following:

Go up stairs in the main building. You will be confronted by people in a queue. Do not join this queue go straight to the front and on a desk there is a form the size of A5 take one join the queue. Fill it in. If in doubt this queue is to Desk 3. Make sure you have signed all your copies. I only had to provide a copy of my passport pages, the information page, the origional visa, the latest extension to the visa, the tm page and the last arrival date into BKK. No other copies required. The person on Desk 3 will check all the papers, Immigration letter and medical cert and give you a ticket. When the number on the ticket is called,tv screen shows number if your are not thai speaker at all. The tv will also tell you what desk to go to. Go pay your money. Go wait. Get called again for photograph. Go wait. Get called get license. Go home.

If you go prepared allow 1-1.5 hours.

It is actually easier than posted above it took me about 15 mins today, firstly you don't need to fill in any form, just go to information on 1st floor, the woman will ask you if you have all the documentation? Then she will issue you with a ticket, which will say foreigner on it, (this was being dealt with at booth 17 today), all you do is just go and sit there and wait your turn. Then the person indsides checks everything, take your photo, and hey presto! It is done! The thing that took me the longest was finding a parking space in the complex, I went around 10 am it took me 20 mins to find one. For those of you entering from the Mor Chit end of things, it is the last big building on the right as you walk up.

Sorry I should have indicated that I renewed in the Office behind School of the Regent, Pattaya.
