  1. Crackling sounds on the line, is almost guaranteed to come from your

    in the house wiring.

Forget using that cheap dental floss cable that comes as standard.

    (The thin white one).

Instead try to find something with a little more copper in it, and do the re-wiring yourself.

I did it, solved my crackling problems.

TOT technicians are not there to help you, they are there to learn...

  2. Why not change the Thai baht in Thailand to GBP and then bring with you ?

There are no limits to how much foreign currency you can take out.

If you bought the condo and got the tortor 3(I think the name is) from your bank, proofing you brought the funds in from abroad to purchase the condo.

You should be able to wire the money back to Britain.

I assume that would give you the best exchange rate.

  3. Could someone explain how to do these Crc checks while transferring files between folders or drives? Is it an automated process or have to check each file individually? I have lost many zipped files on transferring from one disk to another. I usually don't open the files immediately after transfer. Before I usually just cut n paste. Now I copy the original file to the new disk and manually check the file to see if it has error, which is time consuming. Thanks :o

    Google for "md5 checksum utility".

Then run the utility, and create a cheksum file from the source disk

of the files you wanna copy.

Then copy the files to the destination disk.

Run the utility there again, and create another cheksum file.

Compare the files with the utility.

If files are not corrupted, md5 checksums should match.

I agree with Simmo on that you should test your ram with memtest also:

    http://www.memtest.org/

  4. With a decent PS I don't think power should be an issue.

I think the worst problem you'll face is finding space, for that third

disk for the air to properly circulate.

(Some comp cases have terrible design)

Just pancaking e'm in the CD bays, without sufficient distance to each other,

    could make them very hot.

As the CD bays are wider than the HD, you'll need spacers as well.

Make sure you have at least one inblowing and one outgoing fan to keep

    good air circulation.

If you have a mini tower, forget this post :o

  5. I think some partitioning is always good to do on these mega disks.

If a partition gets corrupted, you don't loose all your data.

    Defrag goes quicker also.

Perhaps making a smaller "work area" partition, where data gets written/read often is good. (Here defrag makes sense)

And for storage, the rest.(Defrag not so important)

  6. Thanks for your suggestion Sabajja. I don't see a "sound driver" in the device manager, (although I do have "sound video & game controllers")

It wont say "sound driver", it will say Realtek if that's the driver you're using now.

Try rolling back that one if you had a previous one.

    If that doesn't work,

find the Install CD to your mainboard, you should find the original sound drivers on there.

  7. I just got quoted 1.950$ for 10 cbm shipped to Sweden of personal belongings.

    --------------

    Email [email protected]

    Internet www.bdpthai.com

    -------------------------------------

I pack and deliver the stuff myself to the agent in Phuket.

Don't use wooden packing materials (or get a special kind), otherwise

fumigation is necessary, and it's expensive.

Only use Plastic, cardboard tape etc.

Later I pick it up myself once arrived at Swedish port.

Almost all freigt forward companies have "door to door" services.

(They come to your home do the packing etc).

But expect that to be about twice as expensive, as doing the packing, and deliverance of the stuff yourself to the freight company.

  8. I have run the Vista compatibility tests and there are no major issues

Run the trial first for a month before making a purchase.

Preferrably on only one of the machines.

    (The best one)

Then you know if you have "issues" before throwing away the bucks.

  9. In Utorrent/torrent downloads, it's fairly comon to get

    crc errors.

If your download has finished, and parts of it are corrupt.

Right click the downloaded file in Utorrent and choose "Force re-check".

That will checksum re-check, and re-download any corrupted pieces.

The backup crc errors is probably another matter.

Maybe you have some corrupted files on your harddisk ?

Try doing a "scandisk" and always use the NTFS filesystem.

  10. Hey I've got another idea for transferring money out of Thailand that I wonder if any of you have tried. How about money in a Thai person's account like Thai wife or gf's for example. Can a person of Thai nationality transfer money out without a certificate stating where the money is coming from? And can they transfer money out in baht or foreign currency?

Yes, Thai's can transfer up to 500,000 USD without any reference to BOT and there is indeed a cottage industry of firms that specialize in doing just that. But there are some obvious inherent risks to doing things that way.

Yesterday, my Thai wife contacted Bangkok bank in phuket, asking to send 2 million baht to my mother back in Sweden.(60.000$)

    Forget it !!

If the purpose would be to let's say, buy an apartment,

she will need documents proofing the purchase sent from Sweden !

Not only that, they have to be in her name as well.

If the purpose would be for support, 2 million wouldn't be accepted,

as they think it's to much !

Furthermore, they said, nowadays you need to proof what the money is to be used for, no matter what the amount.

This information received from both TMB and Bangkok bank as of yesterday.

  11. I'm gonna need to return to Sweden shortly, and need to bring 2 million

    baht back.

I'm in a hurry, and don't have time for complicated bank transfer approvals, and hassles.

Nor does Sweden have any Thaibank affiliates, for cashiers checks to be drawn to.

So I have a few questions of my alternatives to get the money out.

    As Lazeeboy suggested:

how about buying travellers cheques in us currency around 13000b per million at least you will get your money home .

Would this be possible for me to buy, and have converted back in Sweden to Swedish currency ?

And, are there any limits to how much I can buy, and WHERE should I do it if possible ?

Or should I simply exchange the baht at "Super rich" to my local currency and carry with me in my carry on bagage ?

I'm wondering about Swedish customs, if I bring that kinda money with me ?

I have been living here for 14 years, and are liquidating my assets to bring home.

If the Swedish custom checks my passport, I can at least prove that i've been living here

    for that long time.

    (Not a drug runner)

Just wonder about problems there if NOT DECLARING it ?

Please people, this is kinda urgent, gimme some advice.

  12. Excellent company. They have an English speaking girl ready to answer the phone at all times and the boss K. Pornchai is very helpful.

Please note one caveat : due to reasons that cannot be given on this and other UK and Western fora there are certain subjects which cannot be mentioned or discussed other than IN PERSON at the shop.

Please understand...this is in YOUR interest.

    Are they affiliated with Al-Qaeda ?? :D

    Now you got me interested.

wonder what all the secrecy is about...

Could it be the "XXX Love" bonus package bounced of some sattelite in europe :o

  13. If you previously had another sound driver installed, that worked

to your satisfaction, windows probably has a backup copy of it.

Enter device manager=>Sound Video & Game controllers

Rightclick the sound driver and choose "Properties".

Under "Driver tab" choose "Roll back driver".

  14. Sabajja,

We're not really complaining, just posting observations so members know not to trash their routers when the problem is at the ISP

Anyway, I'm quite happy that my ISP managed to ensure I had website access, with the trade off that downloads were throttled down...

I am not complaining against the posters.

As i said: "Not to discourage such posts, just an observation."

I fully understand all the posters frustration.

And offcourse, it's a good idea to eliminate your hardware as being the cause,

    by "checking your neighbours".

My rant is more directed against the general mayhem, that seem to flourish

    with Thai ISP's.

And as a result of that, we see these all to common posts.

  15. You know what people.

The last couple of months, i've seen so many topics, about non working internet

here, my eyes are falling to sleep.

Not to discourage such posts, just an observation.

A topic where users praise their ISP service, and only have good things to say

about it, that would be an eye opener :o

  16. I think almost all established computer related message boards, uses

"tech talk" to solve problems i'm afraid.

There's simply no easy way around that fact, at least not when it comes to computer stuffs.

That doesn't mean you can't post there !

Try to explain your problem as good as you can, and tell them you're a newbie.

I'm sure most of the board members will try their best to help you.

After all, we were all newbies once.

  17. The consideration (regarding the salary) should be:

do I employ 4 Thai nationals with poor knowledge or do I employ 1 farang with expert knowledge who will educate my technicians?

I don't think an "education scheme" would work very well, even if a

foreigner was ever hired this way.

The foreigner has to do the work !, plain and simple, in conjunction with

the Thais, for it ever to work.

It's not only the skills that are needed, it's the attitude as well.

Offcourse, if the foreigner got payed 3 times the salary of the Thai.

That would obviously lower the moral of the Thai workers, doing the same job !

It's simple really, scrap the protective labor laws, or Thailand will

never catch up with the rest of the world.
