  1. If you used your account as POP and did not mark in your mail client "leave messages on server" I don't see much chance for you to get your mails back.

    Hi,

I have no clue what POP is and someone at the office install the email, so I guess I have to ask him if he used the "leave messages on server".

  2. Dear All,

I lost my laptop. With no back up, so it’s a drag... Anyway is it possible to retain my emails? I have an email account through my company a co.th mail that I open with outlook express.

I got the pass word, so I can open mails via web mail (I think it’s called) from any computer, but no sign or access to old emails.

As I am a complete tool with computer, what can I do? I guess we have a server at work and is it accessible via that one

    Any help/advice is much appreciated.

  3. Just out of curiosity.

Is this gentleman a wise man…?

Better company? When 5 thai asholes jump you?Its not me,i will cut the head of them all. They get what they had coming, try to mess with the wrong guy

but he get all the shit because?Farang of course,if he wasnt there at that time this would not happend, thai logic.

  4. Dear All,

I past by Patong and Kalim today. It seems there is a new Irish pub on the way. Not to far away from Lime Club. Finnegan’s or a simmilar name.

Also in Kalim Bay: a billboard that says Aqua restaurant and what seems like a large Villa being constructed (to host the joint...?).

I got the feeling that it’s the Aqua Restaurants group from Hong Kong that is behind this... Just a hunch.

If Aqua Hong Kong involved, very interesting; White box, Hung fat's... Very urban concepts set in "paradise".

    Info, anyone?

  5. I was overall very impressed for the price. Kinda reminds me of being in an In-n-Out burger joint at an outlet mall in the States. It's now one of my new favorites.

If it even comes CLOSE to the quality and authenticity of In-n-Out it should be good. I will go there tomorrow!

    Nope, doesn't taste like In-n-Out... sorry. :o

It's just the InN-Out "feel" in the place.

The burger is good and big compared to other fastfood burgers in Thailand though. :D

I ate there with a friend yesterday and I have to agreee with junkofdavid's assessment.

The Thai beef tasted like Thai beef (duh!) and the bun was off-kilter

Onion rings and milkshake were very good.

I'll eat there again though, once in a while, as I like the Tabasco sauce and pickles on the burger, and free refills on drinks is a touch of home for me. A nice change from the usual here.

Went there on Saturday: burger good (even though I think A&W: s tastes better, if we're talking the fast food segment), nice with soda refill, good environment.... BUT, the French fries were the worst I have experienced in Thailand.

  6. If you haven't heard about drive-by's here you haven't payed attention.

Your comment is ill conceived and meaningless because it's a rarity here in Thailand. Shootings aren't a weekly event that it is in large cities in the U.S. If you want to see real violence go live in Oakland or Detroit sometime.

You are joking right? "Shootings aren't a weekly event that it is in large cities in the U.S."

I give you that drive - by's, gang land style are pretty rare, but shootings executions style and murders by guns is a daily affair in Thailand.

St: Louis, Motown and DC -Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani. Same, same but different.

By the way: Thailand kicks US butt in terms of murders by capita.

Disclaimer: I like Thailand and don’t shoot the messenger.

  7. I was little bit upset when I wrote it yesterday, guess it was Patongpanda who made me so pissed off. The guy "know" what happend becurse he talked to thais who even wasnt there...

I paid some money for this incident, cant remember how much. Stayed another eight month in Patong without any problems. After that Pattaya, and other Souteast Asia countries.

--> Doro22, haha, guess you are one of the AIK boys. I been wanting to get my hands on Itchy for a long time. Was in Skara when our boys meet yours running around shouting for him, realized after that its a made up guy. Quite funny that I been upset on a person who doesnt exist. So yes, im home again but leaving soon again, Phillippines next destination.

Inhyrd ryss: Used to be a "credd casual" long time ago. Funny about Itchy... I am picturing a mental "Wmgbg" with foam in the mouth yelling "C'mon then Itchy...". Priceless! Hope your stay in the Philippines gets a bit less cutting edge. Good luck.

    Very off-topic...

On topic. As for Thais goes bananas: I have seen assaults more than ones where a Thai possy comes from behind with bottles and other weapons kicking and hitting the hel_l out of single victim. Not only in the "entertainment areas” and victims have been both foreigners and Thais.

  8. From my own personal experience...Bank of Ayuthaya and Kasikorn Bank will issue a full blown credit card (Visa or Master) with a credit limit equal to an amount (minimum 50,000) you deposit in a special account with them.

Maybe I am a bit slow: but if you do a deposit and get a "full blown" cc (equal amount deposit- credit limit), it sounds like a debit/electron card... Or do you get 30 days credit to pay the full amount...?

Kasikorn Bank's online virtual web card also works well for internet purchases such as airline tickets, Amazon, PayPal etc.

But beware the reponse you get may differ from branch to branch. I found it best to go to the newer, smaller branches found in shopping malls and gas stations rather than the main high street branch. These small places seem more interested in getting customers.

So it can be done. Shop around don't take the first NO as a definitive answer.

  9. I tried it a few days ago. As I remember it was like 65 or 67 Baht at 7/11. Not great taste I have to admit. I am a Singha or even Leo fan, so I do not appreciate the light, mild taste of Heinecken & Co.

Is the Federbraeu replacing Klosters? Haven't seen Klosters for quite a while now.

    Moo9

I like it, good frosty (what ever f=== that means) German light beer (I am a wimp when it comes to beer, bring on a cold Michelob…)

With the power (lex Carlsberg), money and distribution Thaibev has, I would be quite worried if I was Asia Pacific Brewery (Heineken and Tiger etc) or Singha Corp.

Khun Charoen means business when it comes to control the alcohol market in Thailand, and then you can be a Pernod-Ricard or a Diageo and control the rest of the world. Here in ting-tong land it does not mean jack, though.

  10. Hi,

yes, the season is in Autumn - call Detlef at Colibrie (Koh Samui) he is our rep there and I know he gets/imports them for some of the 5 star Hotels there,

    won't be cheap :o but worth it ... hmmm truffles .... :D

    John

    Thanks John,

Will try this option. I am on the road at the moment. Will visit your Bistro when back in Bangkok. Menu looks great and fairly priced.

  11. Hi,

This one is for Gerd or someone else that knows his/hers food. I would like to know if there is an importer of fresh truffle, either French or Italian. I believe the season is October/November (please correct me if I am wrong).

    Thanks.

    where are you living, Bangkok?

if so, you can find truffles in the Emporium, these are the bottled type though, but are very good. or try Food Glorious Food. I cannot remember which Soi it is on but someone here can tell you. I reckon you will not be able to find fresh truffles here though.

and by the way, Gert thinks he knows his food, he cooks for an airline... not far off hospital food :D:o

Will check with Food Glorious Food (on Suk Soi 71, if I m not totally wrong). Thanks for the Emporium tip, but in this case I need fresh truffle.

    Appreciate your help.

  12. At Thai banks, if you make less than 80K Baht a month, then your nick is your answer. :D

    :o

One of my foreign friends asked me about getting a credit card here earlier so I passed it onto a Thai friend of mine who's running the credit card program for a bank here. His response:

    "1. Completed Application

    2. a copy of Work Permit (at least 6 months validity left)

    3. a copy of Passport

    4. Salary Slip OR

Income Confirmation Letter+Last 6 month Bank Statement

Anyway the minimum monthly income for applying BLACK Card is THB 100K, and THB 50K for Gold Card.

Thanks for customers na.... :D "

    Sir,

If you have the chance to ask your friend: do they have any criteria regarding how long you had your WP? I just got rejected by Amex. Had a WP for eight months, paid my taxes, no record (good or bad) at Credit Bureau, makes 60.000 thb/plus commission (50.000 is the requirement). I suspect the rejection might be that I have not worked long enough.

The reason I need a cc is that I have to advance all my expenses, travel and customer entertainment myself, (usually takes 4 weeks to get reimbursed). Hate to be bank for a big company!

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Doro22,

I'm not too sure if there is a requirement to have the WP for a certain amount of time or not. I'll ask my friend and get back to you about it. Applications for credit cards get rejected all the time in Thailand for the most mundane reasons so if you reapply you might be approved the second time. I once had my application rejected by Bangkok Bank because the approval officer was on holidays so they just rejected all applications received for a 2 week period (and yes I don't believe the actually used this as an excuse too). Citibank rejected me once saying they "lost" my documents despite me physically handing them to the approval officer. On both occassions I was approved on the second attempt.

A possible reason you may have been rejected is that they don't really know what your income is because you have a variable portion which is the commission. Does your passbook statement separate the deposit into a salary and commission component or is it one single entry? You may have been rejected because they assume your salary is variable and constitutes too much risk in their eyes, or they just don't know how to assess your income structure.

If you like you can PM me with your contact details and I'll have an RM from UOB contact you.

    Guys,

Thanks for wise comments. anthonyu, I might take you up on the offer, will check first with Amex if they are willing to give me the reason for rejection.

I can survive without a cc, but it’s annoying to lend 10-20.000 + every month to the company, especially if it sometimes takes six weeks to get it back...

  15. 80%. You need more training. :o

    .

Yeah really who gives a F' I would have to read minds like Miss Cleo to be able to know what people thought and furthermore I don't care. We go everywhere wear anything (except sloppy, I despise dressing sloppy, no riped jeans everything is always clean and pressed) and no one has ever ever said anything. Other than the occasional Thai who thinks my fiance' (also Thai) is Arabic or Malaysian or something, she always gets mistaken for some other nationality when she is with me.

That being said we have fun with it too. We have a lil game we play on the sky train whenever we get on at On Nut and head down to Siam Paragorn or something. We try to guess who will get off at Nana by what they are wearing and who they are with. After a year I think I'm ahead with about a 80% accuracy rate:P I swear you can tell after awhile.

  16. To my knowledge; Singapore by a million miles. Pre 9-11, The guys at JFK, always up for

    "How 'bout them Mets/Yankees/Giants/Knicks" chat.

As I posted on the T.V. airport forum, the female immigration official was very friendly, when I arrived into the LOS yesterday. However, maybe it was because I was on an early flight arrival; 0800 hours.

I do think that physical appearance makes a huge difference.

If you are a shaven-headed clinically obese thug, covered in offensive visible tattoos, sporting facial ironmongery, displaying frontal gold tooth surgery and sporting stinking sweat-soaked vest and short pants then expect different treatment to a clean long-shirted, trig individual with jam-jar spectacles and a respectful, diffident smile.

Exactly, plus it helps if you're friendly yourself.

    cheers

  17. Hi Greg,

Just out of curiosity; is the Spicchio brand owned by a single person or is it a bunch of investors behind this? With all the locations (and expanding), a central kitchen (I assume), deliveries etc, they must have put a lot of satangs into this.

Very good location. We approach the owners several times to buy them out. A Hotel/ Shopping Complex is being built there on that corner. It's all going to be knocked down....even the 7/11[

    Including Country Road???

    yes

Subwayin All Seasons Place - closed down

We bought them out. Relocated the equipment to Phuket. The rent is too high at that location and no trade after 9 p.m and not much on weekends or Holidays. Great lunch hour ( over 100 people served) but that's not enough to pay the rent,

Being partly hidden behind the escalator, and with Starbucks taking all the attention at the front, probably didn't help it either. They had good exposure, hard to miss in fact being on the ground floor. It was more the hours.

You better be co-branding to lower your cost

I don't get co-branding. Subway + CoffeeWorld in Suk Soi 4: seems like only Subway sells, nothing much for CoffeeWorld, it seems.

That corporate owned Coffee World branch does ok at that location around 20k in sales per day. But if we did not co-brand with them, it would be terrible. 350,000 Baht rent a month and 100,000 Baht electricity is many cups of coffee required to show a profit. Now with just 175,000 rent and 50K a month for electricity, they show a profit every month.

The Subway/Coffee World combination at Suk 7/1 does very well. Same as in Pattaya. We are putting in Subway/ Squeeze/ Spicchio Pizza at the new Jungceylon Complex in Phuket. It will lower the rent and electricity having three brands at one location.

  18. Hi,

You will not find to many modern bars and pubs in this area. A lot of small karaoke places and a wide range of mom and pop eateries where you can enjoy beer.

If my memory serves me correct, their is a place on Suk Soi 71 that looks like a Farang pub and if I remember right they serve pizza and have pool tables. Further down on Ekkmai you will find loads of trendy bars.

Hmmm, doesn't seem to be too much in the area, hey?

That's a shame. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and commute to the drinking places...

Unless someone has any more ideas?!

    BFD!

  19. Hi,

Plenty of small Thai places where you can wash down some local beers. You can also take a motorbike taxi and go two minutes on Suk, Soi 50 ( same side as Tesco). On the left hand side you will find the Brit pub Toby Jugs (used to be in Silom before). Nice and cosy place.

    Hello all,

I recently moved into a place near the On Nut BTS (thanks very much to the fine folks on this forum!), and I'd like to know if there are any local watering holes I can pop into on my way home from work at about 4:30ish.

I know, I know, Thong Lo is just a hop on the train away, but I really would rather something close, like soi 77-ish (I live on 75). Does anyone have any clues? I'm way too tired every day to walk down the sois, just praying that some lovely bar will catch my attention. However, if I KNEW there was somewhere to drink, I'd have a hop to my step!

    Any thoughts?

    BFD!

I'm not repulsed by US women. I find them to be intelligent and attractive.

Luckily for you, you live in USA.
