If you do not want deal with the insurance and applying for the non-o visa you could enter visa exempt to get a 30 day stay and then apply for the non-o visa at immigration and then the one year extension near the end of the 90 day stay it allows.

Hi everyone, I'm currently on an OA-retirement visa.
So I'm assuming I that I can use the requirements/instructions provided in the linked pdf (9.FOR-RETIREMENT-PURPOSES-50-YEARS-OLD-NON-O.pdf) to change to a retirement O Visa, simply by:
-leaving thailand, before my OA Visa expires
    - returning on a 30 transit visa with my Canadian passport
    - go directly to immigration to apply for the 90 day Non O Visa
    - then extend for 1 year, before the 90 day visa expires... & In future, simply extend another year of still in thailand

    . correct?

That's correct. Think it's the case for non O-A issued prior to when they introduced the insurance requirement.

Not sure when the OP obtained his non O-A.

    Obtained 2019 July.

Left & re-entered Thailand Dec2019... (unfortunately as it's this date that's apparently makes the insurance a requirement).

Extension of OA Visa in Dec 2020.

My understanding was that Phuket were an immigration office (possibly the only one in LOS?) who weren't enforcing the existing 40k/400k THB health insurance requirement for retirement extensions based on original non-OA visas. Whether that is likely to change from next September (if it hasn't done so already) remains to be seen, I think.

They are now... Here's the list of requirements that was shown to me at Phuket immigration, room 103 for retirement of extensions... Which at the bottom is written about health insurance requirement.

However, they couldn't tell me what was the minimum requirements for the health insurance package.

That is really unknown at this time since immigration has not changed the immigration order for the new insurance requirements for extending a entry from a OA yet.

It it is possible it will only apply for OA visas issued after October 1st of this year.

The best option in my opinion is to get rid of the OA visa entry by leaving without a re-entry and getting non-o visa.

Is it possible to apply for a Covid extension Visa before an OA Visa extension is about to expire?

It's something I'm considering, as I may not want a full year stay in Thailand considering the way things are heading.

Alternately, could phuket immigration then consider letting ex-OA Visa holder who switched to the covid extension, then apply for an O Visa for retirement inside of thailand, without exiting the country?

This part reminds me clearly of my experience:

Renewed my retirement extension ( from an OA ) Sept 25th 2019 and traveled to the U.K. for a couple of weeks in early Oct 2019.

The 40/400k insurance was already nailed on for new OA’s and rumours were abundant as to whether it would affect retirement extensions also. This would have been the ideal time to change to an O visa but i had just got my extension for another worry free year and after all i was planning to revisit the U.K. in March 2020, I could do it then …………. ☹️☹️☹️
I had little option but to pay the cheapest LMG premium with a deductible ( 6,000 baht ) for 2 years and accept it as a passport to obtain a retirement extension rather than any worthwhile insurance.

Sept 2022 , for me , should have been an increase to 7,700 baht , instead I am probably facing a 25/35k bill !!

Of course, I have time to plan for my conversion to an O visa but whether that means a trip back home for a couple of weeks or a simple border run remains to be seen.

I just had an insurance agent offer me probably the same insurance package, as it was also 6,000 baht....  and only meet the 400/40 k insurance requirement.

Of course they wrote that if it cannot be used to extend the OA Visa, they are not liable, and no refund is available... Even though I specifically requested quotes, so that I could extend my OA Visa in Thailand.

Anyone here managed to switch from an extended OA Visa, to a covid extension Visa?

As I'm honestly not sure how long I need to stay in Thailand, or want to stay in Thailand with this ridiculous insurance requirement!!!

There are two different requirements depending on what visa/extension you require.  The 3m baht covid insurance and the 400/40 in/outpatient one.  This is not new any more.

How can it be that their are two different requirements? What are each of the requirements for specifically?

And what's the the amount required in a health insurance package, if it's NOT AN OA VISA APPLICATION, but for an OA VISA EXTENSION in thailand?

  7. And what specifically are the health insurance requirements, in order to extend an OA Visa, at the Phuket immigration office?

I was there today, and was shown this handwritten list of requirements, by the student helper who was speaking with the staff inside at the immigration office desk (see attached image).

However, she was not able to tell me what the health insurance requirements figures were specifically... !?!?!

Can anyone here quite us on the specific figures please?

Or better yet, provide a link, to an official Thai immigration page that details the requirements... Or is that impossible to find on the great world wide web? ????

  8. Hi Retirees, I went to Phuket immigration today to inquire about extending my OA Visa.

The student who was helping at the office, and speaking with staff inside the office, showed me this handwritten set of requirements.

However, when I asked her what specifically are the health insurance requirements, all 3 of the staff there could not give me an answer... ????... They would just keep repeating that I need health insurance. At one point, one of the girls said any health insurance... !?!?!

So I'm here to try to find out exactly what are the minimum requirements? Has anyone found this out & extended successfully?

The link here technically is for (NEW) OA VISA APPLICATIONS... Not stated for OA VISA EXTENSION...Please comment if this is incorrect...

    Thanks in advance...

That is a very simplistic comparison.

Extensions retirement have other requirements, money in bank for example.

Pretty rich for anyone using ongoing covid extensions made available by Thai government and flipping it to being about Thai are lucky to have them.

I would be extremely happy with the covid extensions if I were needing them.

I extended last year 2020 in Dec... At the time, an insurance policy was needed to apply for the extension of my retirement Visa.... which cost me about 13K ฿...

Is this insurance policy still required at this date for retirement visa extension?

I'm also considering to go off the retirement Visa extension, and INSTEAD, apply for the CoVid EXTENSION visa... considering the cost of the:
    - retirement Visa 1900฿
    - 800k in the bank, and
    - 13K for price of insurance policy
...versus the CoVid extension for 60 days until end of January seems to be a much lower cost (1900x6 = 11400 for 1 year)... granted at the hassle of having to renew every 60 days...

Is it even possible to change from a retirement extension to a covid extension?

In my case, I'm also not sure if I plan to stay the full year in Thailand. Though I might. Depends on covid restrictions and regulations.

    what's everyone's thought on this?

what do you think are the advantages and disadvantages?

  11. yes... i got many of the same warnings online... even before i could submit any info.

Now i'm past me 90 day reporting window... & i was out of Bangkok (my home location)... so is my only solution now to go to Immigration Office in Bangkok to submit my 90-day reporting in person?

Which location? Cheang Wattana building... or the one past MungThongThani?

Still possible to book in advance even though i'm late reporting now?

    Many thanks for any responses...

Hi Peter Denis, i"m in the same situation as Moon0205.

I would like to find out how is it possible to extend my current :

    - Retirement Visa

    without having to leave Thailand?

This was applied for and granted in Ottawa, Canada. It was issued with a validity from:

    - 9th of July 2019, with multiple entries.

I exited Thailand and returned on:

    - 5th December, 2019
and now I have a valid stamp to stay until:
    - 3rd December 2020

    Many thanks, W

  13. Hi Everyone, Just as an update report.

I just did a 90-day reporting this week in the afternoon. I use the very efficient online booking schedule here ????:
    http://203.151.166.132/immigrant_queue/booking/

On arrival, 30 mins before my scheduled appointment, they had the full booking list, with names & times & found my booking immediately.

Once they received all my forms needed, I was put in the lineup with about 8 in front of me. From the time that I completed my all my forms, to exiting the building with everything completed was about 30-40 minutes.

Getting there was more challenging, as most Taxis don't know that immigration has split to that location.
Better to tell drivers the POLICE STATION... Which is what it's known as for long time already.

    Hope this helps other...

  14. Any one have experience with late reporting of 90 days stay in Thailand??

I missed it by about 1 week. So i'll have to go to Cheang Wattana immigration i guess... ????

Oh WAIT... I Just found this online, is this true? Anyone have any comments?
    https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2020/04/22/govt-extends-foreigners-stay-to-july-31-halts-90-day-report/

& i just tried reporting online link... Didn't work this time.. (did for the previous 90 days reporting)

Are they strict? Is the 2000 Baht going to happen for sure???

  15. Hi everyone, ???? There seems to be rumors going around that foreigners are not allowed on the government buses yet.

Does anyone have an official link for this news?

    Or have heard similar news?

We are looking to visit Pattaya from Bangkok… & it seems it’s only the Ekkamai buses going…

As well, anyone knows if the minivans are running from MoChit2 terminals? …& if foreigners can use them? As well as their hours of operation?

    it was approved at 12:55pm.

So from 10:29 to 12:55, it is roughly 2 hour 30 mins. Few months before it was 2 hours. So you get the idea!

This is the email that you get. And, you can go online to verify the approval directly and also to print the notification slip. Only Internet Explorer is stable. (Chrome works, but pdf etc. not work).

    url: https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do

type in the Ref. Number... it will show STATUS from PENDING to APPROVED. and you can print the pdf from "view" screen. (use IE)

Just the answer I was looking for...

For everyone else, I did mine just in Feb 2020 & worked fine online here:

    90-day Immigration reporting & verification:

    https://extranet.immigration.go.th/fn90online/online/tm47/TM47Action.do?cmd=acceptTerm

NOTE:  I tried it 15 days before, and you cannot get past the first page...And neither does it report to you what the error is. However, when I tried it 14 days before, everything worked fine ????

  17. Hi everyone, I'm still a bit confused...

So even if my retirement visa (see the attached image) already has a MULTIPLE entry printed - circled in red - in the passport visa, I still need to get a re-entry permit?

    Is that correct?

Does anybody here know what time the reentry permit office closes at Don Muang airport ? ... 90DE7A0C-46F3-49FF-B3B8-B16B3E84806C.jpeg.40153ddd792e4ab2404b4c07824c181f.jpegMy next flight is from their departure in at 8:30 PM... Wouldn't want to miss it...
