  1. I also read a lot, fuelled by Dasa books and Canterbury Tales in Pattaya. I get The New Yorker and read it and work on the crosswords. This forum is helpful, particularly Sheryl on healthcare; she must be very kind. The expat credo: no generousity/no reciprocity is pretty evident here. I taught school in Mandalay, almost 3 years away from family. Those are very caring and giving people. It is gutwrenching to see that destruction. Looks a lot like natural forces are pushing back pretty hard on human development. Sorry to go on with a parade of thoughts. Hope we've learned we will need to help others....
  2. From what I have read, US social security recipients MUST report to a SS office in April or risk loosing their benefits. Thailand is supported by the SS office in Manila Phillipines. They support Americans in 43 countries. Appointments are available through mail only.
  3. way better to take 3 tbs of honey on a range top and cook it with your cleaned and free of stems weed. Empty small jar and a spoonful when you want.
  4. Went to Sametivej in Bowin and for 640 baht got vaxxed. Didnt swim for 2 days, slept a lot -- but no problems. Plus the people there were super nice, albeit English free.
  5. Makkro Wagyu beef steak is quite good. Unless you're talking El Gaucho with US and Japanese beef DIY is better. Australian beef has almost no taste.
  6. Fanispan mountain in Sapa was fantastic. Hotels reasonable, food OK, nothing great Night train from Hanoi gets to Sapa area early am.
  7. Best cover version ever of this great song. Everyone was laying down some riffs and then Prince started shredding the place. He was better dressed than everyone else (maybe thats why he got the solo). Love Harrisongs....as Lennon said.
  8. CharlieH' -- Very well written summary and open minded regarding the outcomes that are possible. Long term love, drama and hatred, children, money troubles writ large. Thanks for taking the time.
  9. Ajarn.com is the best source of teaching jobs in Thailand. If the school likes you, better to stay where you are liked by the admin people. The labor dept doesnt care about visas....IO determines how long a visa you get. Good luck in any case
  10. Nong Kai and Khon Ken are both worth checking out.
  11. Yes, saw that on CNN -- why New Jersey of all places? Why so big and why so many?
  12. Schools always need English readers 10 of the same book; Sinbad's voyages, Sherlock Holmes, Alice in Wonderland. I taught in Mandalay for almost 3 years, great place. White Board markers and refills always appreciated as is chalk. I took my class on tour of the (then) new airport run by Mitsubushi and a great way to make friends there.
  13. Just enjoy life and you're having a good ride.
