  1. I have a new Binai (cheap China) 15.6 laptop. Beautiful screen colors and resolution.

That's why I bought it because I like watching VDO at night outside.

On certain YouTube VDO the sound shifts randomly from earphones to speakers and back.

Just particular VDO types like with the series "Catching a Predator" and "The FlightChannel".

I've spend time Googling for an explanation and a fix but no luck.

Any guru out there can explain?

I'd tend to suspect the way some YouTube contributors encode their downloads.

But then there must be also a problem with my soundcard.

I've bought a USB soundcard but don't use it yet. The majority of what I watch on YouTube is no problem.

At one time I considered this long stay at over 70. It is now becoming impossible unless you are willing to pay the price of a car or house for health insurance. This is now on top of the TM. 30, which you re-do if you travel anywhere in Thailand. Plus endless 90 day reports. I have seriously researched to go else where. Such as Costa Rica with 90 day on arrival Visa, a $60,000 deposit in a bank with local currency which you can spend immediately and not have to keep there permanently. Initial Visa is $200 for 2 years ( NO 90 day report ) a one year Visa extension is $100, upon which you gain residency after the 3 years. Minimum income requirement is $1000. After a couple of years you get all medical care FREE. Unlike Thailand you  can own land or property freehold. Many of Hollywood's Elite own property here and they don't even consider Thailand's Elete Visa. "AMAZING THAILAND" THE PRISON DESTINATION FOR TOURISTS. The west coast of Costa Rica here I come. The Cool season not as cold as Chiang Mai and Hot season average about 34C not 40C. Insurance is supposed to be about risks, but insurance companies nowadays take no risks it is all about their guaranteed profits.

When I was still in my early 60s and already retired in Thailand I seriously considered relocating to Ecuador.

I had vacationed in South America before and speak fairly good Spanish.

Unfortunately other than checking flights to Quito I didn't pursue the idea.

I cannot say I regret totally not to have gone live in South America because I have a good life here now with my newly-wed Thai wife.

But it's certain I'd now discourage any farang (US or EU) to retire in Thailand.

Costa Rica is ideal for US but I'd consider also Argentina (Bariloche) and peaceful Uruguay.

If you are able to do it on-line I would suggest you continue doing so - even though you don't need to at this time.

One problem I could foresee is that once they lift the requirement NOT to do it, there'll be many more people synchronised to continually repeat it around the same time - which COULD lead to the offices being very busy each time.

By doing it on-line, you should avoid being in that busy period if you do need to visit the office in future..

    JMHO..

Yes. Have they thought about this?

They could avoid a 0iAUG20 90-Day pile up by giving like a two/three week leeway.

Of course after the initial reporting the usual two weeks/one week will kick in again ...

  4. Reminds me of a similar attempted scam on me some time ago.

Just off the plane in Brussels and proceeding to the airport city rail station.

This guy came to me, said he was an Austrian businessman.

His flight cancelled. Needed to buy asap an international train ticket to Vienna but had no cash with him and no CC.

Could I please "loan" him money.

He'd reimburse me as soon as he got back home.

Promise! I just had to give him my address. My address!!  Not his. ????

He was persistent, I was encumbered with a heavy suitcase and it took me a bit to shake him off.

The part I really like is the "You give me YOUR address".

Not the only time I've been asked for emergency $$ help by alleged stranded persons.

Best to be a cold-heart Cheap Charlie with these scammers.

This said I find the OP's account very hard to believe ... ????

I've had the iPhone 11 since it was released in Thailand.

    Very happy with it.

    An all around great phone.

The TGF was very happy with her iPhone X 256GB until three days ago when she put it on the car, got started and it fell under the wheel.

    Crack. Crunch.

She rushed yesterday to the iPhone office in Ubon (their store at Central is closed).

Total loss, of course, plus it's locked and they couldn't even get the data out.

    Bought the 11 256GB. THB 39500.

Happy again but complains that the 11 is bigger and heavier than the X.

Before the X she had the Samsung S5 that she too put on the car roof. That one survived a short trip to the market (rubberized protective cover).

The S4 before the 5 fell from her purse. Kaput.

But I have seen her X hitting hard ground several time with no apparent damage (it had a nice protective shell)

And who buys these unfortunate smart phones?

    One guess ...  ????

    I'm trying to get married.

The required official documents, and translations, took longer than expected and I missed the close down by a day.

As an O-A leper I need to change from retirement to marriage extension. Age and medical difficulties preclude me from even dodgy insurance, and similar reasons prevented travel to change to O.  Money is not a problem, I comfortably self insure.

Yes, I should have done it earlier, however, there were other extenuating circumstances that slowed this, and I didn't anticipate a government shutdown.

Lucky me I have a long time NonImmO so no immediate one-year extension insurance problems for me.

Still I want to get married to my LT TGF because I suspect they'll hit the O visa holders sooner than later.

Being married to a Thai national should keep me safe. Like a Stay Permit Insurance  LOL

I'm way too old to qualify for any of these scam insurances.

I was due to get my Consular Marriage Approval Certificate the very day the Belgian Consulate closed down for normal affairs on 18MAR with only a warning by email the night before.

Manage to get it because I insisted it was pre-arranged a week before. I was the only "customer" that morning.

Now we're trying to get that document translated in Thai. I think we'll get it.

But with Amphoe closed it looks like our marriage will have to wait.

  7. I did order the THB11k Binai laptop I wanted from Banggood on 10JAN.

Paid with PayPal. To be sent to my POB in Ubon.

    Immediately advised it was shipped.

    Never arrived.

After 60 days I complained and was told the package had been "refused" and returned  Not by me that's sure.

Anyway they rrefunded my money to my PayPal account immediately when I asked for it.

Looks like a good company but what happened with my missed shipment.?

  8. I had a good working Win10 new Lenovo desk computer until a major update a few months ago.

That update made my Google Chrome and Opera browsers crash every few minutes for longish periods.

Since then successive updates have progressively diminished the frequency of crashes to leave only the occasional "not responding" freeze followed with black screen.

Situation acceptable now but not perfect.

Ordering a laptop like this sounds a bit risky. Is the saving so much better than say a COD order with Lazada?

I'd rather buy from lazada or a store but what I want is not available here.

15.6" screen with IPS FHD 1920-1080 at a good price.

  10. I live in Thailand and I want to order a laptop (12000 Baht) from China via Banggood.

Can somebody tell me if rhey can send this laptop to a PO Box in Ubon and how I'll have to deal with Thai import duties.

I have asked Banggood customer service via their FB messenger but received a non-informative reply.

  11. I came to stay in TH on 14NOV97 with a NonImm O visa. Yes, I'm a very senior!

Thee months later, with THB seasoned in the bank, I received a Stay Permit to 13NOV98 that has been extended ever since.

I'll ask for the GrandFathering stated in the Jomtien note next extension.

BTW There is a misprint in that note. It's not 20k in the bank three months before applying, it's 200k.

I've maintained over 1m on my savings account perennially as it is my only active account so it's not the reduced blocked THB that concerns me but the silly BankBookShow every three months.

Anyway i talked to a graded IO yesterday in Ubon and after showing her the original Thai Police Imm new order in Thai she agreed with me that I don't have to come and show a bank book every three months since I don't have to have anything in it until next extension.

I suspect that not many retirees are eligible for that GranDad rule like me!!! ????

  12. I had my simple Will (everything I own in Thailand goes to my TGF, mostly a couple bank accounts) done four years ago in Pattaya at a Law Office advertised on TV.

Done in English and Thai. Two staff lawyers for witnesses. No mention of Amphoe registration.

    Paid 10k baht.

An Amphoe registered Will is altogether different from the one I did.

And so is a hand-written holograph Will.

I choose the Will done by lawyer. More expensive but easier to do.

You should be careful making long term plans to live in Thailand without insurance. They can at any time change the rules and require all retirees to have insurance.

I made the bad decision to retire in Thailand many years ago. At the time it seemed OK.

Fortunately for now I'm on extensions from an original Non O visa so no scam insurance needed for me right now.

I have invested in two houses, land, car for my TGF.

I'm too old to get the scam insurance if they insist on it in the future.

I have a pension and still some money in the bank so my Plan B is to go back to Belgium if I cannot stay here anymore because I cannot get a forced scam insurance.

I've lived in Thailand for 30+ years and I'm very happy with my TGF but I have to prepare for the worse.

I have started looking at Senior Homes in Belgium.

I've not lived there for over 50 years.

Not the retired life I had envision.

My advice : DO NOT MAKE PLANS TO RETIRE IN THAILAND.

    Me I'm stuck here.
