I am so glad you do not need plastic surgery at age 28, I did not either, so we have something in common.

Fact is at 28 I am sure you have your entire life in front of you, and I sincerely hope you find if you have not already a fine Thai lady to spend that life with.

I truly believe they can offer a male much more than their Western counterparts and if paying a dowry is that price, I guess when it comes down too it the price is not so high after all. I just think that dual pricing is unfair, I mean what does a Thai man pay in relationship to a Westerner? I wonder if anyone knows that one? It seems the dowry is really from a time far gone, maybe the culture needs an update or at least fair pricing, minus the daul pricing.

What is a troll, a troll is someone who says things just to get a response? Sometimes those things are not meant to be personal, just kidding or maybe there is a little truth to it.

But obviously this does not apply to all you nice gentlemen that purchased your Thai wives via dowries. The upper class of Thailand, sorry if I ruffled your all features, but until now this post was dead.

The reality of it all is not who your wife was before you married her ..  of no avail, it is what she is now! I do respect Thai ladies from all levels of social standing. The bar girls unfortunately come from poor families, did not have opportunity to become educated, sometimes going to the city looking for jobs that they could not get and ended up working in a bar to survive.

To register them is a sin, because many of these ladies make the best wives and to stop them from leaving the country is totally back woods, like many of the Thai policies.

It is true meeting outside the bar is much better, but for me I need a Thai lady that speaks English. On my last trip to Thailand last June 2003, having two black eyes from my hose job, seems the pressure of the operation even pooped a few arteries in my left eye, no problem with the chin implant, anyway after my second week of sitting around the hotel room watching movies, sometimes in Thai and sometimes in English, Thai movies on cable are so fun. Really, who knows what their saying?

I ventured out walking for miles, in and out of the side walk shops. The road side foods are great, love the meat sticks. I walked by some Thai ladies, they looked like teenagers, to my amazement one of the three says in perfect English," I love you!" For the first time ever I turned red in the face, matched my black eyes really nicely. When I saw their ages, or what I thought their ages were I kept walking. Seems getting involved with under age ladies in Thailand is a quick way into the detention facility or simply called jail time.

Ooops! Not a nice place to recover from surgery. Yes, there are friendly Thai's out there, at the dentist office the girls seemed fascinated, maybe a Western male was new to them. They all gathered around my chair, four or five, while the female dentist did her work. The entire second floor of the dentist office, every lady on the floor was standing around me at my dentist chair, was the attraction all my cavities! Never mind the black eyes, at the reception desk I made eye contact with the girl who booked me the appointments, she could speak some English so hence, we did do a few things together minus any serious romance, just really nice simple walks, a few lunches, really nice lady.

To Dutch and you all,

I believe the Buddhist ceremony is used in lieu of a legal marriage, when for some reason the farany or Thai male is not willing to go legal yet. It shows the family that both male and female are serious and living together, even having a child together is therefore approved. Dutch is correct this has no legal obligations. That is why so many Thai ladies have children, then the Thai male gets another wife and has children leaving his first wife usually now late 30s or early 40s penny less.

Sometimes the husband .. if gainfully employed will take the children as a help. I know one nice lady this happened to .. her Thai Army Major now has three wives. His income is about 20,000 baht per month. Yet a farang staying in Thailand from American with a wife must show an income of at least 40,000 baht per month, in such non immigrant type "0" marriage, the American needs renewal each year, but does not have to do the 3-month border runs. But that type of marriage must be registered and legal.

As far as letting the lady take away all my senses, well thoughts on the subject are such.

1-the Internet or email correspondence is only an introduction to someone, not matter what is said seriously about the actual relationship starts after meeting face to face,

2-once you meet your friend or if more select who you want to zero in on, the chemistry thing, attraction between the two of you,

3-spend time living together, renting an apartment, do a PI background on her to make sure there is not a husband and making sure she is actually divorced, no dowry if paid to parents if she has kids from a prior marriage, if must pay dowry it must be reasonable for single lady, many parents do not even require such any more,

4-after about one year together, and if all is well about her background, perhaps a legal marriage is in order if you both still want such,

5-beware of women who move fast, get you in the sack and play on your lust for them, think with you head not what is between your legs,

6-always look highly towards a lady that offers to remove her ad from the Internet because she has met you, if she is always emailing you and is honest, if she shows you a full length photo and not just photos of her face only, actually a lady may try and hide the fact she is over weight or has legs that are a little fatish, but if she is honest about all these things, she is probably the one who will stay the course, being honest about any of what she thinks would be disclaimers, shows herself well,in my book a lady like that gets to my heart much faster than a lady who is plastic, hides the real her whether it be physical or emotional,

I have developed some interesting little tests of loyalty, it seems my soul mate has as well. After the dust settles the real lady will emerge, I am not yet convinced she is the real lady, but I am convinced that it truly will take time. I put the suggestion out that it might be better if I did not meet her at the airport .. not until after my minor surgery and I had time to start feeling good enough to tour, seems now she is my tour guide and has half of Thailand she wants to tour.

Whose getting married on the basis of email, email gets you the introduction minus seaching the bars, marriage intro services, hitting on the nurses at the hospital while having plastic surgery or in your case maybe something else. Yes email searches have some merit, but it is usually the Thai ladies who try to finalize things over the email. When you have half the world between you and you want more than just a taxi ride to your hotel, I guess by emailing, pen paling with or even talking serious matters over the internet is just bad taste for you conservatives .. fat old men having to pay these ladies, their families, for their email and excuse me what makes these respectable ladies any better than the bar girls getting the money the hard way on their backs. Contemporary, innovated Thai families should not ask for money. And running a background check is not so unheard off. How many guys have read about scams and dowries on this very site, I have only been reading these posts a few weeks and it has come up twice! Before I would ever marry anyone I would do a background check, live with her at least a year and get to know her family personally on a regular basis. Perhaps then I would pay a fair dowry, but really this old trandition is becoming just an excuse for helping a family who is starving, or needy. Sell their daughter to the highest bidder, ues that is so upper class.

Years ago I once was in a position where bar girls, called entertainers with health cards updated weekly in South Korea were a major part of my professional as an Army Officer, I was assigned the Western Corridor, Soul to the DMZ. I had 400 Korean owned and run night clubs, about 12,000 prostitutes, some of the bigger clubs had 100 girls or more. It was my duty to put any club making trouble for American GI's off limits to American GI's, the reason I sometimes put a club off limits or out of business was a high VD rate, all VD was reported by each GI, the name of the lady and the club he got it from. When one club got many reports, or the girl within the club was IDed numerous times. Myself, my interpreter, my driver who as well spoke the language showed up at the club. We had conference with the club owner, usually in the back room drinking Korean rum, eating, the girls would actually put the food in our mouth for us, kind of feed us. After dinner we would walk the club checking some health cards on each lady seeing which were up to date. After all GIs left, they had to report back to base by 12 midnight, we had ID allowed us out all night. Well the party started at Midnight, more than one lady in our rooms was often the case. Visiting clubs nightly becme a way of life, they told me I had the best job in the US Army and the Korean Club owners spoke so highly of me I even got promoted to Captain, so the message from this expereince with bar girls is that yes a relationship with one is definitely worth while, good loving, great company for the night or even in a relationship and sometimes advancement on the job.

Get a business VISA, if you have the initital funds in the Thai bank for the required income monthly for the business. Have all your commissions posted as company income, thus subcontracting or working with the corporation as the legal enity, the corporation is considered, however corporate taxes must be paid to the Thai Government. At least your legal.

Ok, pay it. But realize that minus a background check, he has left himself kind of in the dark. I once dated a woman from Palm Beach, she was older and certainly very well of, she ran a background check on me before even dating me. I would assume it to be proper, that this gentleman do the same. You made some dum statement about he should know her and her intentions, well I guess he should. What better way to know for sure than simply hire a PI in Bangkok and do a check. I am surprised a veteran of Thailand like yourself has never heard of the dowry scams going on. Nice looking ladies who could charm the skin off a snake. I guess you paid a dowry and did not get scammed, good for you, but statistically what is the probability, if no probability or scude off the scale, maybe he is safe, but maybe the few hundred necessary for the PI is reassuring. Why doesn't he just rent an apartment, legalize himself for being in the country and live together for 6-months. If she has not left or the other guy shown up, maybe by that time you can look everything over, check papers. But really unless your thinking of taking her home .. what are you worred about? You really cannot purchase anything in Thailand anyway. Fact is it all goes in her name if you do, so I would advise renting. If she leaves what have you lost, if he shows up kick him out you pay the rent. If she does leave replace her, that should take all of two days. Maybe if you spend three days you can get one without a kid .. just kidding .. but believe me the country is flooded with available women .. from the type class you getting.

It seems to me you do not know this lady well enough or her family to be even thinking about handing over all that kind of cash. Have you done a background check on her, was she ever married before, does she have a husband now? I can honestly say that I have talked extensively with ladies via email, some wanting farang husbands badly. I never had any ask for money for anything, it seems kind of peddy you have to even pay for her email. If I had to pay for all the email I got from ladies, even at 100 baht per day I would be stone broke. You may be getting set up, and you probably will recover nothing. It seems to me your a very naive guy and a very easy mark.

Ok, I deserve the hits. I am hopefully on the correct path. I have turned over a new leaf. I have a lady who I hope will prove all you are wrong about me. I will be moving slow and carefully. I will behave myself and be a perfect gentleman.

Actually Michael Jackson would of looked better had he used a Thai Doctor, Thailand has it all great doctors, beautiful ladies.  Within the last year I decided to try and look younger, I am not that old please, most who see me in person judge me much younger, but as we all know age is just a number in Thailand. I guess some of you feel that having upper/lower eye lids, full face lift, nose reduction and styling and chin augmentation and hair replacement in Thailand since 1978 did not work out well, but  I have had some compliments believe it or not from people who have seen me up close. I am not a vain person, just a guy trying to make some conversation and learn from others.

It is not uncommon for males to do plastic work, many will not every say they have had any. I will never tell again. I guess being honest is one of my virtues. LOL

Actually I live quite modestly, my life style is that of the rich and famous as their Captain l live as they do while on tour to exotic ports of call, like Bahamas, Bermuda, and Key West, Cuba and the Carribbean. But that is only as long as they are on voyage. Then it is Mr. Average Joe Buddy. She knows this and she as well does not expect anything more than an average life style that most working in Thailand enjoy, not an expensive Western style, just common, people enjoy some stability, nothing more.

As far as the three sum, well I never had her in mind. I highly respect her, my thoughts along thoughts lines were if in fact she and I did not work out and it has been a long time since I enjoyed that situation, last time was in South Korea and I had so much rum I cannot remember what happend, but Ma Ma Sun told me the girls said I was great.

Right now Hurricane Isabel, my mother's name has all Captian and Crews land locked, that is why I have time for these interesting conversations.

She personally I do not believer is all that computer savie, but she has a lady friend who is a computer programmer and does the complicated translation work for her, she once said she has many friends who do many things for her, she always replies to every English sentence I give her with complete understanding, even my thoughts, never missing anything from translation. I believe many mates have been sent by by, because they got nabbed by one of her friends on email after making advances, only to have her read their email while having tea with her friend or friends. I had one Thai lady go on AOL and IM me, that is a chat box direct to you on your email. For days she chased me, at first I talked to her only to learn more about Thailand, wages men get, why so many divorced Thai ladies with kids and husband married to other ladies having more kids, these conversations lasted sometimes four (4) hours, after a few days of this I started breaking down, she sent photos, more talk, more serious talk, an email too her saying love .. next day got an email from my lady, replied checked time status, the love email I sent to her alleged friend came in about the same time, then the soul mates email address goes default. So I wrote a letter to soul mates friend and she emailed me her new changed email address then this warning letter about if you love anyone else the sunshine is gone, so both she reads this site and/or she had me probed via email from her friend(s) is possible, one thing is sure .. I got nabbed, but got a second chance with warning, so two things are possible, she either set me up for entrapment with her friend breaking me down over time, which is really not fair, but if she wants her man, no holes bared faithful, then she will go to know end to make sure he really is .. if she is hooked into this site and reading my posts, at least she now knows I will commit to her if she is for real and not a gold digger.

Also, she is not the gold digger type, I have dated a few Jewish ladies who come out and ask your what your worth before they even go on a date. First I want to apologize for addressing you D80 as male, second I have a much better picture of everything as you explained it all so clearly. I guess Mali needs an apology as well. I will say that boys will be boys whether in Thailand or America. The American culture is that of never heard of a chaporone and if the chemistry is right your insulting the lady if you do not show her complete fore fillment. It is true I grew up in America, but things have changed since then too. Like wise things have changed in Thailand, and I believe my most recent three long visits within the last year kind of gives me a little insight into what is now going on. By the way those three were only my recent visits I have been there in the past as well, matter of fact back in the days of Nam Thailand was the only place you could go, quote "GI have good time" without fear of not waking up minus your favorite tool or having a granade cocktail in the middle of the night. Many GIs loved those Thai ladies so much back then they are still happily married to this day stateside.

Sometimes I am a troll, in other words making a statement just to get a response. In this case I guess I was bluffing, because I presently do not know such a lady. But then again I have a long list to ask. If all goes well for me at the airport, I need not use any one else on that list. I will say that a few ladies on the list have tatoes, and one even admits having a child as a result of her profession being a massage lady, actually two like that, so prior entertainers make go for the three sum. I think you are really nice lady, and 54 is not old considering that Asian women never age as fast as American ladies. You must still stand out as a beautiful lady, your husband must be very fortunate to have you considering what same aged American ladies look like. Certainly your well educated and well shown. I think telling us about your background is important, it is your signature, knowing ones history or profession is important in any discussion. The person putting you down for it told us his own age group and that he and his Thai girl friend were living together and college students, even what area in Bangkok, wow what a hipocrat he was. But I got to agree with him that your prespective is off, the reason is your background and generation. I am your generation but single and not in aggreement some of your views. Even single Thai ladies in their 40s think casual sex is part of what happens on a date or between two adults with chemistry. Even talked about over the email, so really Mali try to take it from the horses mouth, there are few virgins left in Thailand over the age of .. well young. The Thai ladies are not that much different from the American generations, that is one part of both societies that is almost equally the same. Sometimes just the fact that I am American and western may create a fantasy for an Asian Lady, vice versa I am crazy about them.

I have real experience with women being sold into prostitution in South Korea, you see for one year I was the US Army Captain that handled all Civil Affairs between the Korean Government and the US Army. My biggest job was the night clubs, thus 400 night clubs and over 12.000 prostitutes. I had the power to put them off limits to American GIsif the STD rate was too high at any club, if this happened they were out of business, maybe for a month, maybe forever, depending on my recommendation too the Commanding General Officer. She emails me about twice a week or more. Her most recent email is not all about being married. She talks about respect and hopes I will, she as well talks about hurt, how I will not hurt her again. I do not know if she thinks I hurt her or disrepected her or if she had been in the past? I assured her I would respect and not hurt her. I am being honest about this, I have several Thai ladies who had given me their addresses and phones, but I am zeroed in on her only. Unfortunately for me some of these ladies are still emailing me, I try talking to them as a friend and have put off having them pick me up at the airport or drop by the hotel as several have offered, another problem is I had given them all my hotel address in advance. A problem which bothers me are some of these ladies may be her friends or has she asked any of them to email me and see if I am receptive or not, I noted an email from a lady, same server yahoo.com as hers that came in just before I got her email each time. I immediately told that lady I was seriously involved with someone and was not available. Maybe she did the same only because my friend who I had try to hit on her was as well on AOL like me, but somehow I feel see is sincere. I advised her I had some email friends from before I decided she was my dream come true. She actually is .. I always carry a VISA Card for ATMs, usually large amounts of monies for say my plastic surgeon in VISA Travelers Checks, all covered if stolen, I do exchange some working cash in baht at the airport exchange before heading out to Bangkok in a cab, this time I have two ladies taking me to the hotel. Her friend is a chief in a major hotel and owns her own car. She gave me the name but I forgot it. I need minor corrective plastic surgery a few days after arrival, she wants to stay with me over night, climb into my hospital bed and hug me all night. Wow, I think that means at the hotel as well?

I have concluded, maybe she is not lying about not having much or as she said no activity in 5 years since her divorce, maybe she has tested me with having a friend ty to hit on me via email and somehow I got lucky and passed the test, maybe she liked what I said to her in email, maybe she just has not had it in so long she is over due and sees me as a physical relief and knows I will respect her for it and not hurt her after and truly believes if all goes well she will have a husband? Dispite the way I flirt, I am just a flirt with these ladies and in reality would not disrepect her, so maybe she knows me better than I do, so she succeeds in her mission for a husband after all the dust settles, but I need time and if she is who I think she may be she has no worries. I am not a butterfly. Besides luckly I am not thinking old style dating habits like Mali preaches or what your preaching. Some of my longest relationships here in American started out with taking the chemistry and the moment, that moment being by the next morning.
