And who decides that opinions are "based on facts"?
The Royal Thai Police?
Constitution du Jour:
Section 34. A person shall enjoy the liberty to express opinions, make
speeches, write, print, publicise and express by other means. The restriction of such liberty
shall not be imposed, except by virtue of the provisions of law specifically enacted for the
purpose of maintaining the security of the State, protecting the rights or liberties of other
persons, maintaining public order or good morals, or protecting the health of the people. You have the right, except you don't.
Even in their constitution they use more words restricting the right than granting it.
Classic Thai.
That is almost word for word identical to the UK human rights act

This is a global situation. Thailand is part of the globe. People deny that something big is really happening don't know people that live in California or Australia.

You believe the LA times and Huffpost? Amazing!
Anyway, I think you are taking a very principled stand giving up all forms of transport (no more cars or planes) or electricity (no aircon). You'll get very fit walking everywhere - bravo!

Now that Thanachart and TMB have merged, their credit cards have stopped working and their new app seems to have lost the accounts and the credit cards have stopped working. There seems to be no way of requesting a new card or reactivating a current card.
Does anybody know what is going on?

6,000 died on Thailand's roads in 2020.
1,400 died from COVID in 18 months.

Mr Phiphat said that if Thailand can attract 20 million tourists in 2022, then some 6.2 billion baht could be generated for the fund.
That 'if' is doing an awful lot of heavy lifting.
I thought the 500 baht exit fee and the money added to your ticket price was for this.

If it was that easy then do you think they might have found the 7 year overstayer sooner?
They found him ages ago - it took that long to make the graphics

As does the driving license..
Not at the post office - they have a scanner for them.

I use it to send parcels at Post Office and as ID at the Bank and it is accepted by most hotels instead of a passport. It is also easier and safer to carry. Police and Amphur also accept it as ID. It is very useful to have considering its ease of obtaining it.

I think they'll find themselves banned in more and more countries now they have shown themselves to be politically partisan. Leaders are going to think (correctly) that they'll find themselves banned or labelled if they don't subscribe to Twitter's woke worldview while their opposite would be 'blue checked' as having the 'correct' view. Long term Twitter is screwed.

Isn't the national park commission a bunch of bureaucrats in offices in Bangkok? If so I'm curious what they intend to do with it. Funny that they never handed it over to a zoo to look after

I remember a few years ago the government here was going all out to curb teenage pregnancies. It looks like they succeeded.
Thailand really hasn't got the problems many western countries have as they need a high birthrate to keep paying pensions and other benefits to people who are living decades longer. Maybe the world could benefit from having fewer people in future.

Are we surprised that such a large number of Brits are in bad shape? THe average British city does not make room for bicycles. Compare to some cities in Spain (which the British have traditionally looked down upon), the dedicated cycle lanes are measured in hundreds of km. In the UK, cycle lanes are simply roadways that have markings on them. Same in Germany. And I believe that Ireland's cities are waking up to dedicated cycle lanes too. Cannot speak for other countries in Europe as these are the only countries I have visited recently.
So if everyone used bicycles more they'd get out of debt? Is this why there is so much personal debt in Thailand?

The horrendous fire on the junction of Petchaburi road and Wireless road in 1990 was caused by a maniac running a red light in a gas truck. He managed to kill 90 (they burned alive in their cars or in their dormitories) and horrendously injured another 121 as well as destroying a whole street of houses. The infamous scum driving was called Sutat Fackaelek (I'm normaIly pretty sabai; but in his case, I hope he had a terrible, screaming and slow death - he died at the scene) and was out of his head on yaba and booze.
It's about time they brought in stringent Heavy Goods Vehicle and Passenger Service vehicle driving licenses and harsh penalties for heavy vehicle drivers who commit second degree murder with their vehicles.
I know, I know. A man can dream can't he?

I tried the google app. On one phone it kept crashing and on another it wouldn't recognise the password. I tried the 'forget password' option and never got the reset password email.
Nice try but no cigar!

I am starting to get a bit concerned about SCB bank. Yesterday I tried to use the cardless atm and all went well until I pressed confirm at which point it said "communication error please try again later" and no cash came out. A moment later I got a message to say that the cardless atm was used successfully and the money was deducted from my account. I went into the bank and spoke to the call centre and they said they had been having trouble with the system and, finally, agreed that yes they do owe me the money and they'd pay it back "within 15 minutes". That was yesterday, 24 hours later it still hasn't been paid back - so I contacted the call centre and now they said they CAN'T pay it back until further notice as they are having trouble. Does anyone know what's going on?

I have worked in a lot of countries (even the old USSR) and after Thailand I think Malta (in the 1980s) was my favourite. The worst places were Saudi, Libya and Spain (boring - full of retirees drinking themselves to death). California was wonderful in the 70s but not now, someone once described it as 'Slough trading estate with palm trees'. I still, after 8 years, love Thailand.

It should be closed and its funds given to the underfunded public hospitals. It was never meant to suceed in the stated objectives of reducing tobacco and alcohol consumption - its funding method proves that. If it is successful then its funding wiuld be reduced and so that's a no-no. It was set up as a figleaf to disguise the fact that the government derives a significant chunk of its revenues from alcohol and tobacco taxes. And as for taking on the giants of the tobacco industry, very funny when you consider that tobacco is sold through a government owned tobacco monopoly.
