  1. the only weapon you need is a rolled up magazine use it in a stabbing motion not a swinging style believe me it really hurts ,nobody realises its a weapon including the mugger ,when in a safe place you can always read it .roll one up and and punch it into your chest it feels like a lump of wood ..in the eyes of the police its not a weapon ,so while walking round at night you see people with magazines you know theyve been reading thai visa (*_*)

Anything which keeps the tourists away is good in my book.

Sorry, but that is a pretty parochial view.

    No tourists means

No hospitals except Nathon and it was pretty basic only having to serve 20xxx locals

    No 7/11's or Familymarts

No Makro, Big C, Tesco, Calibri, Choice Foods, All Star etc etc

Mama Pap shops selling ,ilk/bread etc well past its sell by date

    No Airport

Worse infrastructure (no tarmac roads, bigger and better pot holes, shixxy drains and more floods EVERY time it rains)

Cruppy internet and telephone system (six months for a telephone line if you are lucky)

Only two ATM machines on the island

No taxis - just unlicenced and uninsured private cars who charged todays prices 12 years ago or songthows (in some areas)

Car hire - Suzuki jeeps or the occasional truck (no cars or automatic scooters)

No fresh bread - unless you stayed in a big hotel, and there were not many

All commerce and bill paying had to happen in Nathon

More frequent power cuts and water shortages

But hey - the beaches were empty (and dirty - no one cleaned them)

and you did not have to queue in a restaurant.

    I remember 3 ATMs

Mean the 'stoked' expansion of tourism.

Up until 1999 there was just the one International ATM on all of Samui - in Nathon. (There was another one in Chaweng but only taking internal Thai ATM cards . . . and there may have been others, but only the one in Nathon would take international credit/debit cards: people used to make weekly trips over from KPG just to use it.)

  5. it's a sad reflection of beers in Thailand if folk are getting excited about Carlsberg :(

Not knocking Carlsberg, I'll probably be drinking it once it's available.

btw, anyone know where I can get Federbrau by the case? Only shop I've seen it in is Tesco, but only by the bottle.

    rimping meechok and rimping riverside

  6. well i haveonly had my business open in chiang mai6 months so i dont know what other years are like ,but this november is far far better than the 17 novembers i spent in samui with the exact same business ,i know samui in november is rain season but here i almost doubled what was taken in any november in samui,so if its quiet here all i can say is roll on the busy season (**)

  7. running out of beer in some peoples minds is fine ,but when you run a bar or club paying huge rents and employing lots of staff ,how are you suppose to pay the rent and staff wages when you cant sell anything, this could force bar owners to either shut up shop or lay off staff ,which in turn hurts the landlords who rent rooms to these staff as they wont get paid and they in turn cant pay there mortgages to the banks and so on and so on ,not a good time ahead for a lot of us farangs or thais im afraid....

  8. so the guy has no papers ,he has got acopy of the original owners ID card all the keys and some signed paper saying he bought it (dont think official )just signed paper
