  1. Send it to Lenovo. If it is the motherboard + cpu then presumably they will quote you 20,000 to fix it (or maybe it'll only be 8,000). Or maybe they'll send you a refurbished one by return at a fixed price. Maybe they'll charge you 500 baht for the inspection. If it's 20,000 then try another independent place, but first see if you can find out the wholesale price for the part to see if it's worth bothering with.

Yeah well so many people here believe in main dealers I understand they know no better, I say let them carry on being ripped off if their happy.

I think the issue is big cars full of gadgets.

My small, old car always gets serviced at the dealer and it never adds up to much.

Once I dropped it off at 1pm on a friday for a service. At 3.30pm they called to say that the 14-year-old clutch master cylinder had just disintegrated while they inspected it, and that they didn't have the part in stock. I feared being without my car for several days. But they then said they would order the part from Bangkok, it would come up to Chiang Mai over night, they would fit it Saturday morning and I could pick up the car at 1pm.

So I didn't have to wait more than 24 hours, and it probably cost no more than 5,000 baht I imagine (nothing ever costs more than that on my car).

The alternative would be to have an independent probably not spot the issue, leaving me stranded somewhere when it breaks. Then they would probably misdiagnose the problem and replace the clutch instead. And that would probably take them a couple of attempts too. Doubt it would end up any cheaper, and certainly WAY more time-consuming.

Some EG's are modified here, but none of those pictures are from Thailand.

The car in question was travelling quickly and at high rpm. It appears that the car lost control before hitting the lady on the bike.

Almost all of them are modified. I didn't claim any of them were from Thailand. These ones are though, and again, almost all of them are modified:

"Uniquely" used by boy racers and then you link to a page showing many completely standard EGs that are clearly not boy-racer's cars?  Odd.  You don't know what "uniquely" means?

For me it shows 9 of the first 11 cars as boy racer cars. I know what uniquely means - I'll change it to 'largely' if it will help you sleep better.

Over the last few months did you get a new/renewed card?  Or maybe changed from Visa or Mastercard or vice-versa?

In the dozen or so years I've been in Thailand and having used my various U.S. Visa and Mastercard cards (mostly Visa, but a couple of Mastercards) in ATMs I have never been offered DCC at the Krungsri and TMB ATMs I primarily use and have used "many" times.  I have also used a few other Thai bank ATMs like KrungThai Bank and Bangkok Bank in a pinch but only a few times over those dozen years...and never offered DCC at these ATMs either.

It's the same mastercard as before - not a new one. Maybe some home country banks have a word and they disable the DCC option for cards from that bank?

No, unless they're trying to pull a fast one.  Mastercard "rules" are that you must be offered the opportunity to pay in the local currency.  If you aren't you should be able to reclaim any losses.  I can't see any bank imposing it as you describe.

No.  Unless you saw a screen showing you a specific rate and asking you to accept, you were not offered a DCC transaction.  You got the card-network (i.e., Visa/Mastercard/AmEx/UnionPay/etc) minus any foreign transaction fee your "card-issuing" bank may apply.

With my various US Visa and Mastercard debit cards I have never been offered a DCC transaction at any Thai ATM.  But there are no shortage of Thaivisa posts over years from folks who have been offered DCC...and it appears many are European-bank issued Maestro/Mastercard cards get offered DCC often.  It depends on who/where your card was issued from as to if the ATM will attempt a DCC transaction.

But can an ATM offer you a DCC transaction when you insert your Visa or Mastercard card?  The answer is "yes it could."  Be on the lookup....watch the ATM screens and what they ask/display....be sure not to accept any DCC offer and the transaction will continue on with the higher card-network exchange rate.

Nothing illegal about an ATM offering an DCC transaction; it's just the ATM needs to give you the option to accept or decline the offer in accordance with Visa/Mastercard policies.  The offers are often vague/confusing to many using wording geared to get the person to accept the offer.

The only way you'll get a DCC rate from an ATM is if the ATM asks you if you want the withdrawal denominated/shown in the amount of your bank's cards home currency (instead of Thai baht), and you agree to that....

What you see on the ATM screen never says anything about the term DCC or the fact that they're offering you a pi*ss poor exchange rate. It just asks if you want to see the amount shown in your home country/bank card currency, and too many people unknowingly click YES to that.

The DCC offer at some Thai banking company ATMs seems to be more common with MC logo cards, and not so much with VISA logo cards.

Here's an example of a DCC offer I saw, and declined, when making a store purchase in BKK recently.  5.9% "commission" or "margin" to have my receipt show me what the price would be in USD vs Thai baht.

Bangkok Bank always USED to give me a choice of rates. In only in the last few months that it no longer offers the third-party rate. Times must be tough for the banks, and I'm wondering why they would abandon the DCC option which presumably they made a profit on.

So because of a possible 30,000 baht cost for an extremely unlikely and largely preventable event you reject the deal.

30,000 does not seem high for theft

You don't have knowledge of or control over who has keys to the vehicle. Also check whether you're liable to pay the daily hire charge for each day it's off the road following a crash/theft.

You can contract the virus by being in contact just once with an infected person.

The advantage of being informed immediately about such a contact is that you can get tested immediately and if found positive receive prompt treatment if you should develop symptoms of Covid-19. This is what contact tracing is basically about.

It's so you can isolate and stop the spread isn't it?
