Police are looking for a man shown in a video footage walking and running in shorts, bare-chested on a beach road on Koh Tao on the night two British backpackers were murdered hoping that he may provide a clue which may help resolve the case.

Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen, commissioner of Region 8 Provincial Police, has ordered the video footage to be shared out among the media in order that members of the public may be able to identify the man shown in the footage.

Analysis of the video footage by experts show that the unidentified man, about 160-170 cm in height, bare-chested and shoeless was caught by a CCTV camera in front of Good Health shop running toward Oceanville hotel at 3.45 am and returning at 4.49 am. He was expected to be around the hotel for about 45 minutes.

    What height is Nom Sod?

What height are the two Burmese?

  2. Police seeking former village headman's son who fled islandPolice are looking for the son of a former Koh Tao village headman in their pursuit of the killers of two British backpackers on the night of September 14, after learning that the man left the island the following morning.

A police source said the man they want to find landed on the Surat Thani coast and disappeared. Police say they want to interrogate him first.

I wonder why they didn't "interrogate" him when they found him in Bangkok?

  3. Mr Montriwat, a brother of Koh Tao subdistrict village chief Voraphan Toovichien, was interrogated for almost three hours. He submitted to a DNA test before he was allowed to leave at 1.50pm.

Mr Voraphan, who also owns AC Bar, arrived at police headquarters shortly after his brother began to talk to police. He too submitted a DNA sample for testing.

Meanwhile a police source said the police are also looking into the cooperation of those who helped to arrange the suspect to escape. They also will be arrested.

  4. NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

X-ray results on Myanmar suspects show no traces of assaults

BANGKOK: -- Latest X-ray results on the two Koh Tao suspects found no unusual indications, said Dr Nirund Pitakwatchara, National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) member said Monday.

However, the results were not unexpected, he said, as the suspects were arrested on October 1 and the x-ray took place on October 13 and 20, many days later. "Therefore, it is difficult to find anything unusual," he said.

Police yesterday did not show up to meet NHRC members who invited them to discuss about the police investigation into the Kho Tao murders that resulted in arrests of two Myanmar nationals.

Nirand quoted police as saying that they could not meet the commissioners because they have to ask permission from public prosecutors first.

Nirand said police are misunderstanding as his agency did not want to discuss about the details of the case but it has to look into the suspects’ claims that they were violated of human rights and police assaulted them.

The NHRC will invite police again to meet it again on November 3, he said.

There seem to have been rather a lot of misunderstandings in this case.

  5. Man this is so obviously an admission of guilt and the x-rays were always going to come back with nothing. They are not exactly stupid enough to leave broken bones or cigarette burns are they, there are may methods of torture that leave no traces but are brutal, and one is mental torture, another is suffocation and I will bet my house the police know every technique in the book.

They are however, very stupid to hide behind this lame excuse of the investigation being in the hands of the prosecutors which now must make them completely shielded from torture accusations. They are completely different things. But i a way I am glad they took the stupidity route on this issue, because they just succeeded in making themselves look not only imbeciles, but as guilty as sin also.

I hope the USA are watching.

Apparently, one method of torture used by RTP in the past has been to put a thick book, such as a telephone directory, on the desired confessor's chest while they lie on the floor. The desired confessor's chest is then hit using something like a baseball bat. No marks, but apparently painful and thus effective.

Another alleged method is to put a plastic bag over the desired confessor's head to make them think they are about to be suffocated.

I think almost everybody would confess to having committed almost anything under those circumstances.

  6. Jdinasia is actually right for once. The semen found in/on Hannah's body could have been as a result of necrophilia rather than rape. It certainly does not prove that it belonged to the murderer(s). Maybe jdinasia knows more than he is letting on? He lives on / spends a lot of time on Koh Tao. Perhaps he knows some "top" people there?

Now answer this jd / johnthailandjohn / pattaya46 etc.

    http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/one-tourist-murder-suspect-now-arrested-another-run/

Eighth Region Police Command commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen identified the first suspect as Mon.

He is the brother of a village headman in Koh Tao.

He was arrested after evidence which police collected were examined and proved he was involved, he said.

He also said another suspect is also a son of that village headman. But he has already to Bangkok.

He said both suspects were captured by CCTV cameras and the police have gathered enough evidence to implicate them in the murders.

He said the southern police were coordinating with the metropolitan police to hunt him down, and expected to apprehend him today.

Why was he not hunted down and apprehended? What happened?

    I won't hold my breath

  7. "Pol Maj-General Warawuth Thaweechaikarn said Palmgren lived in Pattaya and ran a bakery. He said the suspect had entered Thailand via the Malaysian border."

looks like he made of DOUGH.

The CRUST of the matter is, he has been LOAFING about for so long, at YEAST they got him in the end.

Crumbs. This post really takes the cake.

Palmgren mustn't have kept many people in the loop about his whereabouts, only telling them on a knead to know basis. Probably just the way he rolls.

Why did the police arrest him after 17 years? Did he run out of donuts? Maybe they were just tired of the hole thing.

    Anyway, now he's toast.

  8. UK summons Thai envoy to raise concern of backpacker murders

    10-14-2014-9-52-11-AM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Britain has summoned the Thai charge d'affaires in London to raise concerns over the police investigation into the murder of two British backpackers in Thailand, the Foreign Office said on Monday.

But Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Somyos Phumpanmuang reiterated Monday that no scapegoats were arrested and no one was assaulted to make confession.

The summons of the Thai diplomat in UK reveals that the police investigation has placed a considerable strain on relations between the UK and Thailand following the murders on 15 September.

It comes 48 hours after Thai police insisted they had concrete evidence linking two Burmese migrant workers with the brutal killings, following reports the suspects had withdrawn their confessions.

The Samui Provincial Court is scheduled to hear testimony from a key witness to the murder case Tuesday. The witness is a foreign tourist who the court wants to hear accounts from the tourist who have to leave the country and would be inconvenient to recall him back again.

A British Foreign Office statement on Monday said that minister Hugo Swire had summoned the diplomat to express his concerns about how the investigation has been handled by the Thai authorities.

“He said that it was crucial for the investigation to be conducted in a fair and transparent way,” it said.

Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were found dead on a beach on the island of Koh Tao on September 15. Miller, 24, had died from drowning and a blow to the head while Witheridge, 23, died from head wounds.

Police in Thailand have defended the arrest of two Myanmar men over the murders amid concern the pair may have confessed under duress.

Thai police say they have concrete evidence linking the men to the killings.

The two suspects, named as bar workers Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, could face a possible death sentence after being accused of murdering Witheridge, 23, and Miller, 24, on the island of Koh Tao.

However, last week the suspects reportedly withdrew their confessions and alleged they were beaten during interrogations by Thai police. Other witnesses have also said they faced police brutality, such as scalding with boiling water.

Recently Swire, the Foreign Office minister and Tory MP for East Devon, raised his concerns with Thailand’s deputy prime minster, Tanasak Patimapragorn, shortly after the allegations of police brutality first surfaced.

“Mr Swire emphasised how important it was that the UK and Hannah and David’s families received regular updates on the investigation’s progress. He also noted his concern about the way that the police had engaged with the media on the case and reiterated that the UK police stood ready to assist with the investigation and subsequent legal process, ” the foreign office said.

Human rights groups including Amnesty International have also called for an investigation into the allegations of police torture.

A spokesman for the Royal Thai Police, however, said the claims were false. “We had them checked by a doctor before and after the inquiry because we thought the accused may claim they were tortured,” said deputy police chief spokesman Colonel Kissana Phathanacharoen.

“The accused persons can say anything they want. They can withdraw their confessions if they like. We have concrete evidence, including DNA evidence from Hannah’s body which matched the two suspects.”

The British media said the Thai police have vigorously defended their investigation into the killings, despite coming under repeated scrutiny over the long delay in tracking down suspects and for staging a bizarre reconstruction of the murders in which TV reporters played the two British victims.

The authorities have also denied claims that the two Burmese suspects have been made scapegoats for possibly higher-profile culprits. Police said investigators relied on witness testimony, CCTV evidence and DNA tests – particularly evidence taken from cigarettes found at the crime scene – to come to their conclusions and that their investigation was by the book.

Postmortem examinations found Miller, from Jersey, died from drowning and a blow to the head, while Witheridge, from Great Yarmouth, died from head wounds.

Poorly worded and therefore not clear, but could this be Sean McAnna?

Admin and fans of CSI LA are giving Nom Sod and his lawyer 24 hours to bring forward proof of the following:

    1) Video footage of CCTV from Nom Sod's dormitory/apartment

    2) Video footage of CCTV from the convenience store

    3) Video footage of CCTV from Bangkok University showing he was there on the date he claims.

    4) Nom Sod's exam results.

If they fail to comply with these demands, our fan page will go to crowd-sourced reviews page and give a bad review on his dad's businesses.

    The deadline is midnight.

  10. 2 Canadian female backpackers visited KT this year , got hooked up with Sean only a friendly basis , were introduced to a couple of his Thai mates , got invited to a late night beach party , got drunk , somewhat stoned , and the last thing they can remember was falling asleep there.

Next thing they wake up , clothing partially removed , both sexually assaulted , and one of them was robbed ( her bag cleaned out ) phone stolen , and her diving watch removed.

Very ashamed they left KT that day , on Samui they contacted the tourist police who advised they had best return to KT and initiate a formal complaint with authorities there first ...Seems correct and in procedure .

Their parents advised them both to leave immediately and then they did.

They have tried to contact Sean since to verify why he left them on that beach with approximately ( they recollect at that time ) 7 thai guys and disappeared stating he was going to get more drinks and another guitar ??? but to no avail he won't correspond .

Due to embarrassment and one of the girls with episodic mental issues they both decide to waive the event and move on , regarding themselves lucky !

Oh and the ironic thing with no reference to direct blame or responsibility to Sean or any current suspects they found one used condom , ( only 1 ).

Also the both vaguely remember a caucasian was drinking with them , but they cannot remember his name or whether he hung around , he was travelling from New Zealand and was leaving the island soon.

My next door neighbour in AU is related to one of those girls , and i met her recently .

She continues to receive counselling , cannot concentrate at work , terminated her engagement to her long term boyfriend and has become paranoid and almost reclusive .

I'm sure if innocent Sean has sympathy and understanding for these 2 innocent women who didnt expect to be drugged and pack raped.

Im sure this happens all the time and i don't suggest the current suspects or two burmese are responsible , but i think Sean Mcanna knows who they actually are , and probably not what they actually did .

I ask posters here to consider if one of these two innocent women were related or a love one .

if Sean Mcanna knows anything about the current case , he should talk to the correct authorities and it may just be possible he can save 2 more innocent lives ( The 2 burmese currently on death row ).

I don't vindicate or have any personal ill feelings to anyone and i humbly respect all poster here and their opinions , but i think the whole world knows quite well how Thailand works and how it has been run for many years.

Unfortunately the corruption is both systemic and systematic and almost impossible to wipe out.

When dangerous people are above the law , it puts everyone at risk !

It seems like Sean is not the guy you would expect to do the right thing, though, is he?

Do you think this is a push knife on his person?

  11. I will never visit that island(nor any other island) .

Just out of protest, hope many thousands feel the same .

5000 illegal immigrants and a dodgy police force on Koh Tao ,

i think the other islands are same same .Stay away, not safe.

Visited Koh Tao and Koh Phangnan recently. You get a nasty feeling arriving on both as soon as you see the horrible characters lurking around the pier to fleece tourists and find the taxis (rusty pick-up trucks) are all controlled by the mafia and charge at least B1,000 for a 5 minute taxi ride. If you have ordered the hotel car to pick you up, it will wait for another couple of ferries until it is full, forcing you to take the mafia taxis. Service in many hotels and restaurants is often very poor because it is provided by untrained illegal immigrants who are obviously poorly paid, treated like shit and can't speak a work of Thai. Better call them slave islands than paradise islands. Such a pity given the natural beauty of the islands. Stay away and spend your money elsewhere.

I was a regular visitor to Koh Pha Ngan during the last decade. At first, I liked the less-developed, friendly, laid-back feel of the place. Luckily I only ever passed through Had Rin.

Every time I went I saw changes. There were more and more tourists. There were more and more resorts. The existing resorts became bigger and better resorts. Shops and restaurants sprang up, even some Italian and Indian food in Thong Sala! Prices went up.

The increasing number of tourists saw a lot of expansion and more substantial investment in the island regarding infrastructure, better roads and better connections to the outside world. This influx of money obviously attracted Thais from elsewhere,

There was a deterioration in the attitude of the locals. The songthaew drivers at the pier were less friendly and greedier. The people who worked at the resort that I frequented weren't as friendly.

It had become a different place.

    I stopped going.

  12. Mr Banana Pancake the Rohingya 'interpreter' who participated in the beating and confessions in action from the Irrawaddy FB page.

    https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=853663321344488

At 4:00 Mr Pancake asserts that that Wyn started off the killing spree by hitting David over the hit with a large wine bottle. So that's another murder weapon. He also says Hannah and David were having sex, in spite of no DNA evidence supporting that theory.

He speaks Thai with a heavy Indian accent. I wonder what his Burmese sounds like and how good is written Thai was to read back and translate the Thai confessions they were forced to sign. I also wonder what his work permit and visa look like, since Rohingya's are stateless.

So that's an iron bar, a wooden stick, a hoe and a wine bottle. Wow. But no push knife. Amazing.

The time stamp on that video is 23:15, but it's bright daylight outside. Was Mr Pancake taken to Bangkok University for that interview?

  13. hang on a second.

Sean is a musician and a singer songwriter

He doesnt need an excuse to post music on the internet

He is sharing his soul when he does that, and, shouldnt be condemned for it

I have no argument with that Steve and am not condemning him for sharing but, his friend was buiried last week and Hannah will be laid to rest today.

Posting on a website that is dedicated to finding their killers is insensitive to say the least.

Instead of sharing his soul perhaps he could answer a few direct questions?

At this present time he has not displayed anything other than self preservation and now, seemingly, promotion.

Cryptic lyrics are not what is needed, answers are.

No offence, I just think he is full of it.

Allegations are being made about him and he needs to address that issue at least, given his past criminal record.

ok, you make a few points, but,

I wasn't aware that he was posting on a thread dedicated to Hannah and David,

I thought it was his personal account on sound cloud?

And, about his past criminal record; this has been bothering me also, but not in the same way as others,

No one knows what that case was about, only the conviction,

and because he is young, and this was in his past,

who is to say he didnt have a picture of himself and two girls in a threesome and one of them was 17?

until it is brought to light about what exactly constituted "child porn" then, I am not buying this as a reason to denote his character.

I personally know people who have had their nightclubs shut down and fined because girls used fake ID

and, I was recently told a story whereby a man was with a "professional sex actress" who had a fake ID also, and he was sent to jail

The USA is currently using "downloaded illegal" porn files that people didnt even know they had on their computer, because they opened a spam email, which was sent by their political enemies

I don't doubt for a minute that Sean was involved with drug activity and even was the occasional or serial date rape drug rapist, as both he and some of his friends don't look like the type that like girls saying no to them,

but Sean doesnt have that look to me,

while, there are some others whose names and pictures have been posted all over the internet, do look like rapists

anyone that will rape will also kill

I read up on him just after the Daily Record published their story on him. A while ago now. Apparently Sean downloaded some pictures of teenage girls. That would make him an ephebophile, not a paedophile.

More pertinent is that he worked at the AC bar for 18 months previously (and had just come back to Koh Tao). He obviously indulges in the drug scene on the island. I wouldn't like to say where I think he gets his drugs from. (I would really...)

  14. wow where are the rtp apologists today, clutchclark, sicophanticsteve, police chiefjtj, stutteringparrot, please come on here and tell us how this is usual procedure.

I'm tired of seeing these guys clutter up each and every thread with the same inane questions over and over that have already been answered.over and over and repeating the police statements over and over, again and again as if that was the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

    Please stay away.

  15. I got one thing to say....These arnt the only murders

Koh Tao Thailand beach death: Parents convinced son murdered – and his killing on new years day covered up to protect tourism. http://1clicknews.com/thailand-beach-death-parents-convinced-son-murdered-and-his-killing-covered-up-to-protect-tourism/

    stick that in your revival.

    Wow. Just wow.

When the family, of the Mickleover suburb of Derby, brought Nick’s body home a week later, a post-mortem revealed he had drowned. The coroner opened an investigation, on the grounds it was a suspicious death.

Tracy said: “Nick had no broken bones which seemed strange for someone who’d fallen all that way. The postmortem report said the possibility he was assaulted before death could not be excluded.” Their demands for answers are being backed by British police who are working with the Foreign Office to try to question the Thai authorities ahead of a UK inquest in December.

Well played, Englishoak. Well played, indeed, sir.
