  1. Billy Connolly, I hope you are happy now that Ken Bigley has now died.

For those of you that dont know, the alledged comedian Billy said live on a British stage last week that he hoped "the kidnappers would just get on with and kill him" as he was bored with the story. He was booed by a couple of people in the audience but he told them to "###### off". I liked Billy but not now.

I hope he never works again for those comments.

  2. As to 'spitting in the face of a policeman', it is likely that the Brit man did not know that he was facing a policeman. It was early hours of the morning in the accused restaurant. I would think that he was wearing typical of duty policemans leisure wear, probably a T shirt with 'POLICE' emblazoned upon it!

If the guy was off duty then he wouldnt have been wearing a tshirt with POLICE on it. It would have been a plain white t shirt.

Even so, if a person was just wearing brown trousers and a plain white shirt with POLICE on it, a regular tourist would more likely to associate that with the POLICE fashion brand rather than a policeman.

  3. “I meant to kill the man, but I accidentally hit her.

“I feel devastated that my good intention has turned out like this,” Somchai said.

Oh thats ok then. He had good intentions and didnt mean to shoot anyone or run them over and drag them underneath his car.

Settles it for me. Not guilty.

The Daily Record has slightly different version. Seems like the so called foreign correspondents from the papers are just cutting and pasting from Reuters and AP etc and putting their own byline on it.

  4. Next month I plan a visit to a few other S.E. Asian countries - is there any possibility that these old stamps in my passport could cause probems?

Do you mean you will not be visting Thailand?

If so CMON! Think about it man. Do you really think Lao, Vietnamese...... officials are going check to see if all your stamps to Thailand are legit?

If you are coming back to Thailand, why not get a new passport if you are concerned. As the other folk above have said, it would be 98% safe unless you got a really concientious Thai official with a good eye and memory.

  5. Another thread got me wondering about the list of programs running when you do the CTRL ALT DEL combination.

I got my laptop about a year ago (runs on XP ) and as always have loaded lots of stuff deleted lots of stuff. The result is I am sure I have got a lot of unwanted and un-needed junk that clutters up the memory/cpu etc. Some of the names are easy to recognise like Explorer, rundll but others I havent a clue about LSASS.EXE QTTASK.EXE anyone?

So the question is, is there a way of easily finding out what everything is.

Perhaps even someone could list all the stuff that should ( windows os junk ) and shouldnt ( spyware etc ) be on there - make it a sticky and update it ?

  6. How can this put things in perspective?  You all can talk as much as you want about the 10,000 baht being the "equivalent of" $10,000 and $100,000 in a group BUT the whole point is that it isn't $10,000/£100,000 is it! It is merely $250/$2,500 in all. What is this if you are wanting to live in a country that is not yours as a tourist?  If you dont have the money go home and earn some and then come back. Failing that, I suppose you all could rob some tourists with money now, just wait at the border crossings and join the Thai robbers that you all are so worried about!

    Falcon

Lets say this very slowly and careful so you finally get the point.

Yes it is ONLY 10000B to us ( 1 person ) but it is A MONTHS WAGES to potential robbers.

Multiply that up for a minivan, 8 people - 80,000B. That can be an entire familys' income for a YEAR Imagine the incentive for some country bumpkin to get rich quick.

Now do you see why people are reluctant to carry that amount of cash? It is not the problem of having the money it is the increased risk involved of carrying it.

  7. Was good to see finally Schumacher getting some bad luck.

But once again he got away with murder on his attemped pass on the Jaguar. Coultard did the same thing later on Ralf and was then immediately palced under investigation by the stewards.

Seemed to be a decent track from what I saw on tv and finally overtaking!

  8. The link works for me but here it is for everyone else.

Phala Beach Cruises Co. Ltd. introduces:

    Visarun in 6 hours

Every Friday. Pick-up 11:00 am at Foodland, central Pattaya and back at 17:00 pm. Transfer to the Yacht, cruise in International Waters, all you can eat BBQ and softdrinks included. Immigration will stamp your passport on the boat.

2950 Baht All-in. Deadline Wednesday evening. 2 Copies of your passport required on booking (foto-page, current visa-page and TM card)

Immigration will stamp your passport on the boat. ??? So, you go out into international waters float around for a while then come back in and the friendly immigration man along for the ride will stamp you out and back in. It sounds like a good alternative to Poipet but have to be honest, it sounds really dodgy from a legal viewpoint.

It would be interesting to see how long it lasts and immigrations view on this.

  9. Not sure on the history but from memory of my mother when she talked about her teaching years all she needed was a degree and then the PGCE came in and then the Ed degree. ( may be wrong though )

^ Actually I know older teachers (50 plus) from the UK that didn't even have a degree, but rather a teaching certificate/licence of some kind (I'll try to find out more) probably comparable to a degree but not a degree (as at least one of them had problems obtaining a TL) per se.

Quite probably true. It was just that she had a degree.

Andyadam - what is a NQT ? A newly qualified teacher?

  10. our serviced apartment in bkk is one all inclusive price per mth..covers power, water, broadband internet access, phone, continental breakfasts, full laundry service, excellent security etc.......

maybe u should try this kind of scenario.

I am guessing here but maybe you are paying 25k plus in rent ?

my company pay for it.Price is in USD.

Thought so. All the inclusive deals are rip offs.

99% of the time, the people who get them arent paying for them themselves or for some reason dont want the hassle of getting a monthly bill.

Either way, I havent heard of one instance yet where it is cheaper than paying things seperately.

Apart from anything else it just encourages you to use far more electricty than you normally would, why not have the air con on 24 hrs? You dont pay any more - not a very ecological or lets face it economical ( for the country ) thing to do is it?

( not getting at you personally but just a general point )

  11. Just use your vote in a responsible way so that you can be happy at least you did what is right to the mankind.. World is watching and you know the opinion of over 80% of people and 99% countries in the world. Choice is yours!

YES, You are absolutely right, how could we be all so stupid not to realise it before? The whole world should vote for the american president, not the americans themselves.

They should be banned as they are too close to the subject matter. Anyway, you know you cant really trust them to do the right thing.

  12. I think most of the drink/drunkeness problems in the UK are caused by outdated licensing laws where bars etc have to close at 11pm.... people "run" to the pubs and drink as many drinks as they can in the alloted tim

N0, the drink /drunkeness problem in the Uk is due to the yob culture that has developed over the last few years. One can tinker aroun with licensing hours (and I agree this would help to some extent) but the root cause is the disgusting proletarian culture now dominating the UK.If you want a butchers closer to home have a look at the average UK expat living in Pattaya.

Do you honestly think that drunkeness was only invented in the last 5 years?

I fortunately just missed the hopelessly moronic UK laws where pubs opened for 2 hours at lunch then 4 hours in the evening. Pubs actually had pints lined up if they were near big offices / factories to save pouring time - the rush and crush time they called it.

That was real binge drinking - not just pouring it down your throat because you want to be drunk but drinking it fast because you only has a very limited time to do it in. You left the pub ok - because your body just had not enough time to absorb the alcohol - and were legless by the time you got home.

The UK now seems to be having a much more adult approach to it all and letting pubs and local councils decide from a broad band of times. Not just a lets close the city at midnight and have thousands of drunk people of the streets looking for the 3 remaining taxis because its now raining attitude.

You demean the Proletarian culture then you say " take a butchers..." Hmmm.

Thailands attitude? Lets double the amount of tourists by restricting bar hours, shopping malls, cinemas ( anyone know if they are included if they are in shopping malls? ) - my arse.

  13. Thailove - this is not uncommon. At most you should be paying 5 or 6 baht a unit for electricity. ( If you have your own direct bill I believe its only 2 something )

As a rule of thumb, if you cant see the meter, you are going to be screwed.

As for the changing of the monthly rent, its normal to try and ask for as much as you think you can get - especially here. If you move to another place and see a farang, ask them how much they are paying. It gives you at least an idea of value.

  14. The fact that few Thais speak English is absolutely no problem to me as it means I have to become more profecient in their language!

Nothing more irritating & arrogant than the archetypal Farang who's attitude demands everyone speak English.

Err, I hate to break this to you but not every farang is from an English native speaking country. What about the rest of Europe? The Dutch, Swedes, Germans, French.....

The poster who works on the new airport sums it up.

You have a Ukrainian, a thai, a japanese and a brazilian in a business meeting. What language are they more likely to use? Hint, it isnt going to be Thai.

For those people that live here, certainly it is their interest to learn the language. But as Thaksin wants to double the number of visitors to Thailand surely that doesnt apply to the Indians, Japanese, French, British, Indonesian, Singaporean, Malaysian tourists? Isnt the logical step that Thais learn more English?

But then since when are thais ( or the farang thai lovers who want to shoot anyone that has a hint of criticism of anything Thai ) logical?

  15. So many expats (?) here proudly display their national flags on their cars and houses. Particularly the English (the mirrored Danish flag) and German flags all over the place. What's the big deal? What causing people who left their home country to start a new life in Thailand to hang on to their old nationality? If it was so great why leave?

    :o

Just because you move to another country it doesnt mean you should forget where you come from. Especially one that doesnt allow you to integrate as much as this one.

What do you think about all the thais who have stickers of the stars and stripes and union jack etc ? Are they american or british wanabees or simply expressing their like for that country?

  16. kwizz117 - congratulations. You are the winner of the ###### thread of the month.

Any sort of sympathy someone might have had disappeared after the 2nd line of your xenophobic bigoted hate filled post.

Why cant you follow the middle path?
