Just to add my tuppence. Was in the Silom branch of Bangkok bank to get a new passbook for my Be1st card and i asked about their credit card.
They said no, you cannot get one unless you open ( in their words ) a guarantee acount of the credit limit.
In other words, I would have to leave 50k in one of their accounts - which i cant touch - to get a 50k credit limit.
I have had the account with them now for almost 4 years.
Central wouldnt even give me a Central card never mind a Central Visa.
Siam Commercial - from the same branch that my school deals with refused me as well.
Just waiting to hear back from Tesco. Bet thats a no as well.

....Don't you think that the students will learn better if they are taught by native Thais?? Some teachers are from UK, some from US, some from Australia and some from some other country, all having completely different accents!! How do one expects to learn with such a confusing environment?
......
How many English teachers can speak or even know basic communication in Thai? And how do they (non Thai speaking teachers) expect to teach students English? Somebody gave the example of Indians/Phillipinos/Africans having better English, the difference is that instead of teaching the accent they emphasised on teaching the language itself. Accent can be corrected once you know the language. And there are so many accents in English these days that its no more relevant......
To the 1st point Thats how the thai english is such a mess it is at the moment. It was left to soley thai teachers who "spoke" english
2nd point
As others have said the native language is genreally not used by the teacher in the classroom. Why when you only have 1 hour ( or 2 or 3.... ) in a week do you waste that time by speaking in the native tongue that they hear the other 167 hours?
Also If you want to learn a language you go to the original source. Think of it like copy a recording on a tape, after a while the tape is unintelligible.
Who would you like to learn French from - a frenchman or a quebecois or a cajun?
Same with English. Learn from those countries where it is the national / legal / majority / spoken at home language. Not Indian / Phillipines / Malaysia etc.
I am not saying that there are good teachers only from UK / NZ / US etc etc and there are only bad ones from the rest of the world but the best teachers are at the end of the day native language speakers.

The real Teachers are making real money in their home country's
Hmm. Funny how I know some real teachers making real money here - 100K plus. Gives them a damm site better standard of living than at home.

Thailand has Asian neighbours that speak english. It would be cheaper to recruit a Indian, Malaysian, Filipino, Singaporean with a bachelor degree in teaching English.
Hello this is own problem of stpid Thai people. They strongly believe only a White Skin Farang can teach English, what ever may be the their qualification. Do you think they will hire Asians though they are over qualified for teaching ? Never. Until they change this mentality even after 200 years, still have to look for backpackers to teach English.
If their standard of English is like yours, then I would NEVER hire them.

How is a degree in History or Geography or Literature helping someone working in a office or factory environment?
Get a degree and find out!
I have got a degree mate. I still fail how a degree in history is going to help someone maximise their capacity when they work in an office.
"Pass the stapler Smithers old chap."
"Of course, back in the middle ages, they didnt have staplers they used pine needles."
"Fine. Now pass the bloody stapler."

At the weekend, I was out reading at the pool for a couple of hours. Before I went I slapped some sunscreen on.
When I came back down to the room I had a shower and because my skin felt unusually warm I started to slap on some Nivea After Sun cream. Normally this does the trick for me and cools down any redness and tightness.
But this time it hasnt helped at all, after a couple of days I still feel sore across the shoulders and the skin is warm to touch. The Nivea cream doesnt seem to be getting absorbed into the skin like normal and just leaves my skin feeling slightly greasy.
Can anyone recommend any other sunburn creams that work? Did I just get a bad batch, is it too old to work properly? ( the bottle is about 3 months old )

... But if I had gone to university or some other college to earn my degree, why would anyone be using it in Thailand?....
Why the ###### shouldnt we go where we want to after we have graduated?
If I had a degree I would be putting it to good use in England or America or any country where it would serve its purpose to the max, I just think Thailand is being so stupid with there policy on qualifications. So you think going to a uni for 4 years, getting a BA in Business Admin and then finding out just about the only job you can get is working is a call centre serving its purpose to the max? How is a degree in History or Geography or Literature helping someone working in a office or factory environment?
Its funny how the people without a degree always say the Thais are being so unfair in wanting their kids educated by someone WITH an education. You know, people who actually know the difference between there and their.
What do you think?P.S Anyone that has a degree and is using it in Thailand, I have big respect for you on this, as you are giving Thai Students what they really need, and if you have married or have children then living in working in Thailand may be the only solution, but if I had no commiments I would be where the money is and that clearly isn't in Thailand!
For someone who claims that he has the highest respect for people already teaching here, so many of your posts have sly little digs at teachers. Why is that?

Rangers 2-0 Anorthosis Famagusta
Thomas Buffel (left) opened the scoring for Rangers
Match reaction
Rangers win 4-1 on aggregate
Goals from Thomas Buffel and Dado Prso eased Rangers into the group stages of the Champions League after a 4-1 aggregate win over Anorthosis.
But Famagusta player-coach Temuri Ketsbaia gave the Glasgow side an early fright by striking the post and forcing two good saves from Ronald Waterreus.
Buffel chipped over goalkeeper Antonis Georgallides for Rangers' opener.
And Prso curled in the second after the break, after which Nacho Novo came close to extending the lead.
Peter Lovenkrands and Fernando Ricksen had replaced Alex Rae and Marvin Andrews in Rangers' starting line-up following Saturday's defeat of Celtic.
Anorthosis midfielder Marco Haber returned from suspension, while captain Nicos Nicolaou recovered from injury.
But their preparations had been hit by former Manchester City playmaker Georgi Kinkladze's decision not to take part as he intends moving to Russia.
Yet the visitors from Cyprus were by far the more dangerous outfit in the opening stages.
Ketsbaia, booed constantly by Rangers fans for pre-match comments, was the inspiration and struck the inside of the post with a superb 30-yard effort.
The former Newcastle and Dundee midfielder next burst into the box and forced goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus to block clear.
Ketsbaia gathered the loose ball and Julien Rodriguez cleared in front of his own goal after the head of Nikos Frousos connected with the cross.
It was 28 minutes before Rangers seriously threatened, Prso bursting along the edge of the box before firing a drive a few yards wide.
The Croatian then somehow managed to head wide from four yards following a Barry Ferguson free-kick before Rangers made the breakthrough after 39 minutes.
Buffel gathered a flick-on from Novo before powering into the box and clipping the ball over the advancing Georgallides.
Ketsbaia's early threat had been somewhat nullified by fatigue and now being man-marked by Ian Murray.
But the veteran forced another fine parry from Waterreus, with Rodriguez just managing to clear from in front of goal despite pressure from Frousos.
Novo came close to extending the lead when he rounded the goalkeeper and rolled the ball across the face of goal.
The Spaniard was first to threaten after the break but side-footed the ball over the bar from six yards following a Ricksen cross.
Rangers sealed the tie when Prso turned his marker inside out before curling the ball into the corner of the net from the edge of the box after 57 minutes.
Haber forced Waterreus into a save at full stretch with a long-range effort, but Rangers were now dominant and Novo and Steven Thompson squandered chances to extend the lead.
Rangers: Waterreus, Ricksen, Pierre-Fanfan, Rodriguez, Ball, Ferguson, Murray (Alex Rae 85), Lovenkrands, Buffel (McCormack 74), Novo, Prso (Thompson 66).
Subs Not Used: Klos, Andrews, Malcolm, Khizanishvili.
Booked: Pierre-Fanfan, McCormack.
Goals: Buffel 39, Prso 58.
Anorthosis Famagusta: Georgallides, Poursaitides, Katsabakis, Louka, Xenidis, Haber, Maragos (Konstantinou 52), Nikolaou, Ketsbaia (Samaras 64), Tsitaishvili (Tsolakides 72), Frousos.
Subs Not Used: Nagy, Kampantais, Markou, Parmakis.
Booked: Poursaitides.

Eagerly-awaited draw
In Monaco, the 32 clubs will go into the draw, which will take place in the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum at 16.00CET. For the purposes of the draw the clubs will be placed into four pots according to their coefficients (see below). No team can draw a team from their own nation, other than holders Liverpool FC, who are without country protection after UEFA granted them special dispensation to defend the trophy, meaning they could be drawn in the same section as English champions Chelsea FC, who they beat in the 2004/05 semi-finals.

Shearer
Its so difficult to choose. Players in the 20s and 30s now forgotten would be millionaires and more famous than Beckham. Players from the Iron Curtain in he 50s, 60s....
But, I can only go only the players I have seen on tv and in the flesh.
shortlist
Cruyff, Maradona, Platini, Zidane
Platini - just.

1. Conversation type classes.
2. Lesson plans provided (i.e., he doesn't have to create courses / plans at this stage)
3. Close to a BTS (Has told me to add that this is important!)
4. Pay isn't overly important.
5. Reasonable hours.
and you think that if we knew of a place like that ( exception is no4) we would tell anyone ???

Is that dial up Ego?
I noticed at Pantip on Sunday they had something called "Super Ego" unfortunately, no one was actually able to translate it or tell me what that meant.
It wasnt a rebranding of the normal dial up as that package was still available.

I think Global also have the franchise for the official Acer dealership as the Acer shop on the 3rd floor shares the same stock and have the same repair centre.
I bought an Acer from the Acer store but it had a lead missing so they just took me to the GS shop and gave it to me.

I'm interested in knowing why people don't like iTunes. I've used it for several years and find it both easy and handy. I've ripped my entire CD collection into it (not that many, I admit) so never play a CD anymore. I love the way iTunes lets you create dynamic playlists that are updated in real time.
......
So, for those with an opinion: What is it that you don't like about iTunes?
Unless I have missed something Itunes only lets you have the Party Shuffle. It cant do like Real Player and organise a random 1 hr, 2 hr playlist and then add in additional parameters like Rock only or no rock etc or random 1 artist only.
If I am wrong please tell me!! that is my biggest bug bear.
Not found a perfect media player yet, they all fall down in one area or another.
Media Player - its Microsoft. and it doesnt recognise my make of mp3 player
Real PLayer - looks a bit clunky, the latest version is a backward step design wise
Itunes - as above. Also the party shuffle continually picks songs that have been played before. ( I have about 10Gb of music and have only loaded it on in the last couple of months. but out of odds of maybe 5000 to 1 it finds favourites and brings them up intot he playlist again and again - even the 2 star ones )

Normal girls give you the same amount of shit and hassle as "bad" girls do.
You just expect it with the "bad" girls.
Met a girl in Siam through a friend a couple of weeks ago. Chatted a while, arranged a date later. Went to KSR on Friday night to meet her again at 9.30. 9.40 I phone her to ask where she is. Still in taxi she says, be there in 15 minutes.
10.05 get message from her saying she is still in the taxi.
10.45 I give up and go home.
10.55 I get a message from her
"I arrive now where are you?"
I reply that I am going home as I dont wait 70 minutes for anyone
she replies "i sorry I come late, why you do this to me?"
And for the record, when I first phoned her I could hear the tv in the background. the silly bitch hadnt left yet. And to top it all, I had got a phone call from a sure thing girl that afternoon and turned her down for this "good girl" so I missed out on a happy ending both ways.
Back to the point now. Find a girl - then lable her good or bad by her actions, not area.

oh the bluebelles are blue, oh the bluebelles are blue.........
Once again Celtic show they cannot take defeat gracefully
I cannot believe some of the so called "experts" who claim the red card for THomson wasnt warranted
"Mark Guidi At Ibrox
CARD-HAPPY ref Stuart Dougal wrecked any chance of gauging which of the Old Firm sides were likely to emerge as the dominant force in the new season.
Dougal spoiled the game after only 22 minutes with a poor decision to send off Celtic's Alan Thompson for a challenge on Nacho Novo.
It was a clumsy tackle from the Hoops midfielder but the Englishman didn't deserve to be red-carded for the third time for controversial incidents in clashes against Rangers at Ibrox."
IS this really only a yellow? Not according to FIFAs new directive this year. Straight red. Similar to Ambrose last week in the EPL.

I am trying to get broadband for the next 6mths in my apartment.
( at the moment I have to go through the buildings exchange which means I can only get dial up)
From speaking to True if I get a phone line and their broadband and then cancel in 6months I will be hit with about 5000B of cancellation charges.
TOT is the same for their phone line but loxinfo do have a 6month contract but I dont get a free modem.
Anyone know of a 6month deal without all these charges?
It may have been my imagination but I am sure that a while back I saw somebody promoting a pay as you go broadband. A bit like the dial up scratch cards. Anyone know who this was/is?

With luck, thats us through and if only 1 more seed above us goes out, we will be in the 3rd pot come the main draw.
Totally pissed off with sportscentre on espn, not a <deleted> mention of the result.
Just need to get that defence sorted out, still looks shaky by all accounts.
Getting A Credit Card In Thailand
in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Posted
usual story with credit card applications. they gave no reason, just a standard "unable to approve your application at this time....". but had a WP for 2 years and salary should have been ok, main job is just under but do privates which takes me over.
