  1. Before leaving the States to retire here in Pattaya I bought a Cyberhome 1600 DVD Recorder works same as a VCR but burns on to DVD blanks and it is 110/240 volt so no converter needed and the price was the best part 89.00 US on sale at Target Stores in the US.

You must have missed out a digit there. $89 jing jing?

bloody good deal if it is the right price. All I want now is an idiot proof VHS / DVD recorder combo to convert all my old tapes. ( guess who is the idiot :o )

  2. Would have thought they will keep it as is.

After all it is near some big hotels and a major road and the river boats ( for up and downstream ) so a lot of people use it.

There is enough space, from memory, after the station for the lines to go back to double track.

  3. Heres the story on ananova.

Man jailed for fake Rolex watch

A Belgian man has been jailed for six months for wearing a fake Rolex .

A court in Dendermonde heard that the man, named only as Gunther R, 33, had been spotted by representatives of Rolex wearing the fake watch and they complained to authorities.

The judge ruled the man had knowingly bought the fake and sentenced him to six months in prison under laws for handling counterfeit goods.

He was also ordered to pay a £700 fine for breaching brand name registration laws.

Sounds more like he was trying to pass it off as genuine and selling it.

  4. bloody ######. no way in ###### am i going to carry my passport just in case i want to use an internet cafe!

isnt italy a schegen country where people from the other member states arent required to show their passports at borders? i can just imagine a jolly german crossing the border with no passport only to be told he cant make a phone call or log onto www.bossygermnburds.com without his passport!

  5. Simple question - have you still got the box and manual that you got from true? If so, look there.

I think they only give out a couple of models, one of which is the huwei but it has the name and model number on the top of it, so i presume you havent got that one.

Here is a good site about forwarding that was recommended to me. It lists lots of different models. I havent yet tried to open up the ports yet though.

( the doofus that i am forgot to include the link doh! )

  6. I took a flight out of BKK on Cathay Pacific.

The tickets (2) were purchased online about 8 days before travel. The charge had already been processed by the time I checked in at the airport.

For the purchase, I used a unique credit card number (generated online by my credit card company, a different number for every purchase). Of course, I didn't know that I had to show the credit card until I looked at my confirmation, after purchase, where it said that you MUST present the same credit card when checking in. All I had was a print-out of the online card. Never mind my passport showed the same name, along with the original card from the credit card company (which I never actually use in Thailand), and the fact that the online purchased had already been confirmed and deposited into their bank account.

Speaking to the reps and then the manager, I was told that there was no way I could board the flight without showing the same credit card that I used to purchase the ticket. (Those who do not have their credit card "go back home", the manager said. Nice guy, but it was a stupid thing to say...)

So, I ended up purchasing the same 2 tickets AGAIN with cash (I don't like using credit cards in Thailand). It'll take a few days before the charge is reversed on the card, but this has to be the stupidest check-in policy I've ever heard of. When I finally checked in, they didn't have any record of my reserved seats or vegetarian meal.

Needless to say I will NEVER be flying Cathay Pacific again. If one doesn't have the exact same credit card you used online, pay for it again or just turn around and GO BACK HOME.

um, why didnt you have the card with you? Surely you dont have that many cards that you leave the majority behind or do you just use cash abroad?

Its not that an unreasonable request as others have said to help try and prevent fraud.

  7. Folks, at the moment Lufthansa are doing some great deals from

Bangkok to KL, Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta for only 3000B, 4000B 5000B and tax return til 30 November.

But you do have to be a member of their Miles and More frequent flyer scheme. Your Star Alliance card wont work.

  8. well, the british photo driver licence is international - its valid across europe.

4 years living here and 3 years of holidays here and never been asked for id. during the apec crackdown, always was waved through without any check but my thai girl de nuit was asked for her id. inthe space of thhose 2 months i worn off the gold cover of the passport, so now its a plain purple cover :o no writing at all is visible.

  9. I am not sure if he sold Bobby's Arms but about 10 or so years ago Bobby DeCrozier landed the Food concession at International School Bangkok - which has got to be a goldmine.

He still owns it and the concession. It hasnt changed hands but he definately takes less interest in it than he should. the latest plan was the section where the kitchen is was going to be turned into a cafe / coffee place more suited to the gay crowd. the main bar would be a gay bar and the actual pub moved to the pizza place beside foodland.

But when or if that happens is much like asking when the airport will open.

There has been no live music for years now. The restaurant bit upstairs is almost always disserted partly because there arent any staff upstairs.

...odd couple of renegate expats you would want to go out of you way to avoid propping up the end of the bar shouting their heads off like loon...

one of them wasnt shouting TUUNE! at the top of his head to the music was he?

Still a good place to watch 2 different footie games at the weekend with 75B long island ice teas on happy hour ( or brain cell killers as i call them ) :o

  10. yeh, they are great about protecting thai movies from piracy - thats why a lot of the new dvds dont have english subtitles :o

anyway, back to the point. i dont know about doing anything to the company but you can write to google and the other search engines and get them to remove the web site from their results and replace it with your complaint.

of course you have to have some proof you were online before they were.

  11. This tired old "farang make four or five times more than Thai ajarns" refrain is yet one more myth which needs to be consigned to the dustbin, along with the equally false notions that Thai schools are laid-back, friendly places to work, and work permits are a cynch to obtain if you have the right paperwork.

as you say experiences may vary so just because it isnt true in your place doesnt mean its a myth.

  12. Spot ON..by these insightful Thai students... Wouldn't it be nice to have a class of these types of eager and fresh faces...

Little by little in the LOS.. YET.. the people who have the power to make the changes, do not.. and those who want the change have not..

The next M of Education is off to another.. Rile em up.. tactic.. BUT let's remember.. High Tech, low touch  DOES NOT WORK  Always.. and with this crowd. the approach is suspect...... with this crowd.. They'll create.. excellent RAKANOK Players..

THE OLD FASHION WAY.. is best. FACE TO FACE..  High touch  low tech..

YET.. The ADM folks are hooked on.. another stream of thought and economics..

For those students who take an active role as English language learners.. THEY DO FIND the way.. inspite of the challenges from their on MOE..

      GO DO..

huh? what the ###### are.....you on? why can you never post...... in proper english.... why DO ... you have POST.... this way? can write you in english?

Tyree - just who has too much emphasis on grammar? I will lay a bet now and say it isnt us.

As for the Thai teachers not being able to speak english despite having majors in english, well it doesnt surprise me.

just look at the last thread about not needing native speakers. i cannot believe that people are still saying that we are not needed and thais should hire phillipinos and indians because they are just as good as us. total and utter bullshit. it the same with thais. any mistakes they have are multiplied down to the learners and multiplied again. i can barely understand a lot of the indians and pakistanis who have lived in my home country for 30 years so god know what the effect is if they tried to teach english to thais and then the thais tried to spak english.

  13. just downloaded limewire this afternoon and have started downloading stuff. but the download speeds are total rubbish 1,2kbps at best, even from people that are shown as having a t1 line.

i have had a look at the download settings and they seems to be ok. is there some small trick to getting faster speeds? Most of the files seems to have only 1 source ( and what does need more sources mean? surely if there is 1 onlne thats all the system needs. )

i have got the 1mb package from true if that helps.

( Iif you think this question is stupid, just wait until i try bit torrents :o )
