  1. If this post was about the government representative failing to show up for the meeting and a mob of their supporters were trying to force their way into the building to put up posters supporting a democratic election, I bet we would have over a dozen pages of reply's / rant's already. Won't mention the posters who were recently praising Abhisit for being such a big man and agreeing to attend. Just saying ........

  3. Interesting observations from the OP about the differences between the Thai sexes...............I long ago came to the conclusion that Thai males do, indeed, come from an entirely different planet to Thai females.

I've never before experienced, in any other country, such a marked difference between the two sexes in temperament, personality, (apparent) depth of character, social graces - you name it.

In any social situation my wife and I find ourselves in, I'll always join her in the "ladies group" for a far more enjoyable and fun time than the terminally boring macho posturing that Thai men only seem able to exhibit when they've had a few beers.

Have you ever been to Australia?

I resemble that remark !! Don't worry about the Aussie women mate. They can handle themselves well enough amongst the men folk..

  4. "$60 dollar in aus, ok, but that is for massage with an extra"

Not so, I have 2 massage places near me on the sunshine coast, $65 an hour, both with middle aged girls. They massage,in an open area of their shops, men and women pay the same price

    "... middle-aged girls ..."

For heaven's sake ... So what would that make them? 10 years of age? Stop being so patronising - they are women, not girls.

Don't be so pedantic. English is a flexible language. An example used in context, "I'm off for a night out with the girls."

  5. The soft target is Nana - full of westerners, a fairly closed environment..... surprised it has not already been targeted.... In Europe or North America the soft target might be a train station, but here it would be that location.

Believe they will very much appreciate your valuable input - is there a better word for "moron" ? Yupp: Cacruden, whatever that means... Quite sure also all Nana lovers will certainly buy you a beer for this idiotic pointer...

Am thinking the word you are trying to find a better meaning to may just apply to your good self. Cacruden has put forward a valid point. You have not sir.

I've long thought that mate and avoided the place accordingly. A single entrance U shaped plaza, all it has (the last time I looked) to prevent vehicles entering is a single flimsy fold down metal pole. A disaster waiting to happen should sinister minded people wish it to be. On a busy night it would dwarf the tragedy that took place in Bali a decade ago.

Been saying the same thing myself for many, many years now. Numerous persons of the particular faith that loves blowing people up live just across the road. Is one of the reasons I stay away from there at night when transiting through BKK. Many other options these days.

  7. Ahh, the Mandela of the East at it again.

I see some people are time travelers again and can predict what people will think of him in 50 years time.

I might do some time traveling too. I see a savor of Thailand that will have brought reform to a country desperately needing it. The writing on the plaque under his statue in the North might well read. "This man, that freed the majority, that let them live without fear or intimidation for what they believed in and for showing us that there are 14 more principles to democracy" That big cheesy grin imprinted onto a 25 foot Bronze statue in the Chaing Mai inner city park.

Plausible? Well it is as plausible as saying "he won't be remembered" UNLESS you have a time machine.

  8. Just relax and go with the flow. If you trust her, your gf will get it sorted. Give her the money. Probably pay for a family party. Good food and drink is number one. The lads will most likely get blind drunk, but that is no different to back home. When you feel you've had enough, quietly say goodnight to mum and the missus and sneak off to bed. Not a big deal saying goodnight/goodbye here. In the morning you will be a champion. Cheers.

  9. Another quality farang tourist arrives. sad.png

I keep posting this comment, can I have it "pinned"...........clap2.gif

And the mystery deepens as to why Thais don't think of farangs as role models to emulate. Haven't finished this thread yet, but I'm sure someone will blame his behavior on Thais and Thailand.

I blame it on the man in Dubai !!

  10. Very convenient to request proof from us when you know it's the police's job and they rarely catch any culprits of the many attacks on PDRC supporters.

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Who are the "us" you are referring to?

Do you know something "we" don't?

    wink.png

The "us" would be the majority of posters on the "Thai News" forum who take the anti-government line. Is why I stopped posting on here. If you write anything even slightly positive about the elected government you will immediately be labeled as a redshirt and Mr T lover then be shouted down by the same bunch of bitter old men.

  11. Don't be so quick in accusing the driver of the car. When designing a road, one of the most important factors to take into consideration is sight distance based on speed, vertical and horizontal alignment and line of sight. Gives the driver time to pull up if a hazard is sighted on the road ahead. I'm not saying the guy was not speeding, but if the road here was not designed to cater for sight distance he would not have been able to pull up in time. Mostly only new roads cater for sight distance requirements. Old roads were constructed to different standards.

  12. Too many old Dinosaurs on here. We need vision for a better future. Will not happen if we bury our heads in the sand. Be more positive you lot. Always looking at the negative side will never achieve anything. Nothing will ever be built if we don't invest your time, effort and money. There are numerous international people involved in the planning already. Its not just a Thai project as most here suggest. The SE Asian high speed rail network will be a huge boost to the economy. Not just for Thailand, but for the whole region. Bring it on I say. Cheers you lot. "Don't worry, be happy" "Always look on the bright side of life"

  13. Maybe China could extend their rail down here. But, that might bring more Chinese tourists. tongue.png

Actually, that is part of the plan. It's all part of a bigger plan to connect the majority of SE Asian nation states to a common transport network. Rail and road. Similar to the high speed rail network in Europe. Might not happen in our lifetime but will happen eventually. Big money needs to be invested now on planing. Route selection and land purchase along the preferred corridor is the major cost. better to purchase now than in 20 years time at 10 times the cost. Preliminary design etc are also added costs. Is how any engineering project evolves. Is a long term strategy. I'm involved in the industry so have some understanding of how it works. Guessing a lot of the loan guarantees would be coming from China.

  14. sorry but this topic is linked to alcohol not Australia.

The guy could have been Russian, Thai, a Brit teen, a Finnish, etc.

    Could have, but wasn't.

This is alcoholism, coupled with the mores of a country that does not have a tangible, identified "culture", outside sport, barbecues, self importance, arrogance, alcoholism and insensitivity. Sport is most important in Australia because it has little else, other than an indigenous population who are on the nose, as we call it. They had culture. We did everything we could to destroy it.

I know fantastic people in Australia, but I am talking here about the media fed self image for the masses.

A country that is easy on crime. Easy on disgusting behaviour and easy on alcohol and violence on the streets.

Loud and obnoxious, all too often the voices you hear raised in Asian countries are Australian. The capital of the "king hit" killing.

Walk up to someone you don't know in Australia, kill them with a hit to the head and you get some community service penalty, because

you were drunk. This is a fact.

    Its a joke.

My Indonesian ex-wife, knowing I had two passports, British and Australian, never introduced me as an Australian in her own country.

Guess why? Here you see it, in its pristine glory. This tolerance is brought about by an obsession with political correctness, from which unrealistic tolerance breeds this sort of socially acceptable behaviour in Australia. They find it amusing.

Easy solution. Hand back your Aussie passport and go live somewhere else if the place upsets you so much. No need to keep putting yourself through so much stress living amongst them all the time.

  15. Most people up my way (Thais), could not give a s**t about the PDRC protests down there in Bangkok. You guys can argue to and fro all night. The consensus here is that once the protests are over and another election is held, the country's most popular party will be in power again. The Dems need to change their whole character and become a proper opposition so the peoples north of Bangkok have a real choice of who to vote for. No choice for them at the moment especially when the largest opposition party boycotts he elections. They can eventually win if they play the game fairly and not keep trying to cheat through the courts. They just have to except the fact they will not win the next election. If they play their cards right they may win the one after that. Use the next 4 years to try and connect with the opposition supporters and offer them some real hope for their financial future and inclusion in the political sphere. They can do it if they really try.

  16. Road infrastructure is crucial to a nations development. Both sides of the fence agree with this. Before you comment, remove your yellow/red glasses.

A meaningless statement on your part. I doubt anyone is denying that road building is an important aspect of a nation's development path. But, how "crucial" is it to increase road width from 4 lane to 6 lane to 8 lane highways, often in locations where the roads are not fully utilised at present? Then there is the issue of quality? If roads are being built that crumble and crack-up in 2-3 years (sometimes less), again how is this a "crucial" part of Thailand's development? This is not a matter of lack of technical knowledge, budget or ability, but purely revolves around deep and widespread corruption in said Highways Department and the political establishment, which needs to be exposed by the Thai people themselves (especially those that pay tax, rather than evade it or hide income in offshore bank accounts) and made more accountable to the nation. There is also the question of need, in an increasingly oil constrained society and likelihood that private vehicle transportation will decline in future decades.

Ok. You are bringing corruption/politics into the equation. I was trying to leave that out and talk purely from the engineering/development side of things of which I am closely associated with. To quote yourself "in an increasingly oil constrained society and likelihood that private vehicle transportation will decline in future decades" True, but not in your or my lifetime. In the meantime, how do you think all of the furniture in your home arrived? Not by bicycle I'm guessing. Another quote "increase road width from 4 lane to 6 lane to 8 lane highways" Nobody is suggesting that. It's all about improving the existing infrastructure to cater for increasing industrial production. Need to get the goods from point A to Point B efficiently.

  17. If anyone thinks or believes that my hero Kuhn Suthep will allow another election before the reforms are put in place dream on cos it ain't goin happen!!!!

The mad man is your hero???

with your avatar picture and you make a post like that..well done..clap2.gif
