  1. Interesting story

I will be going to Jomtien tomorrow to visit friends. Is it still 30 baht they charge you from the bus terminal ?

Not sure what you mean. From Pattaya North road where the Bangkok bus comes in? If you mean the Pattaya Tai queue, it's only 10 baht to Jomtien.

BTW, I forget to mention that my "special friend" the drunken old coot made a point to harass me AGAIN when I did board the next bus. He was screaming at me to move in from the rear seat of the bus but within moments a guy just walked in and filled the space, so he was frustrated a second time. Like I said, hope he's not a regular.

Yes Pattaya North road , if I remember correctly it was 30 baht with the baht bus, It's the same system with queues there, never had any problems with them so looking forward to a "smooth ride".

From Pattaya North Bus Station the charge is 20 baht only. Don't ask the price or it will be inflated to 30-40 baht.

  2. I am genuinely interested in your story. I take the baht bus from Pattya Tai to Soi Chayapreuk about 2-3 times per week but always 10 am-12 Midday.

What time was this aggressive situation?

Sometimes if I am carrying bags I also refuse to stand on the back of a baht bus (and wait for the next).

I think you were unlucky to encounter a loony. I have to be fair, in 9 years I have had only 2-3 problems with these Songthaew from Pattya Tai-Jomtien BY DAY.

  3. For Acid Reflux, purchase a PPI from any pharmacist. LOSEC or OMEPRAZOLE.

Beware of the cheaper Indian fakes. (Cheap green cardboard packet)

I insist on OMEPRAZOLE by 'March Pharmaceuticals co Ltd' in a blue box, most pharmacies stock this. 100 Baht for 14 tablets.

  4. Some newspapers quote debts of a mere one million baht. However my sources reveal that the debts were closer to 30 million baht.

Even so, it is a very tragic event and after so many years for them both living comfortably in Thailand (15+ years I am informed) the financial ruin approaching was too much to bear.

Regarding the dog: If the dog had been on the other side of the doors, it surely would have become noisy and alerted neighbours to their home and their suicide attempt. Ideally the dog would have been taken elsewhere and given a trusted friend for keeping until after the events.

Condolences to friends and family, of which there are many.

  5. Has anyone noticed this new bar, presently under construction on Soi Buckhaew? They have already erected a huge 'Golden Lion' high above the bar. Does anyone know more about it or when it will open?

It is located exactly opposite Soi Honey on Soi Buckhaew and is contiguous to the Indian/Pakistani restaurant called 'Tikka Centre'.

  6. Hadn't seen the replies but just come back from the shop with some .5 mg tabs of Alprazolam AKA Xanex.

Never taken this before so will see how I get on.

Says you shouldn't drink with them in the Internet?

One or two drinks with 0.5mg Xanax will just strengthen the effects. Remember it is a fast acting drug and the effects only last about 8 hours.

Don't take more than 0.5mg if it's your first time.

  7. Yesterday the British pound rose to a 11 month high against the US$ so I decided to change GBP 5K today in Pattaya.

I checked all the Thai Bank websites this morning and the best two rates for buying were:

    KTB: 50.27

    Bangkok Bank: 50.38

The SCB, TMB, KASKORN, AYUDHYA etc all offered 50.1 or less.

However by pure chance I walked past a U.O.B. FX Booth and got 50.48

So my advice would be to change GBP at U.O.B. booths.

The difference between GBP 5K at Bangkok Bank & U.O.B. was 500 baht!

  8. Buses from the North Pattaya station are safe when it comes to your luggage. No reports of theft.

ive been robbed on one, my bag was missing from the luggage hold when i went to collect!

What did you do about it? Did you complain to the baggage handler when you got off in Bangkok. Did you make a report to the police?

Considering the Bangkok bus only makes a few stops before the bangkok bus station, a baggage handler would remember who he handed out luggage early to!

  9. Some farang friendly banks:

    KTB: Pattaya Tai

    Kasikorn Bank: Pattaya Tai

    TMB: New Central Shopping Centre

Siam Commercial: Jomtien half way down Beach Road

Bangkok Bank: Forget all Pattaya Branches

    Bank Ayudhaya: Villa Market Complex

Pattaya Most unfriendly farang bank: Siam Commercial next to Walking Street.

  10. i bought a Sherman DVD player in Carrefour a few months back for 790baht. does all the MPG, AVI, MP3, VCD, etc...

I bought a Sherman DVD 7 today at Carrefour. Cost 1,290 baht. Multi Region and it plays everything and has a USB.

Good picture. very happy with it.

  11. If you are tall; 6 feet or more, then Elite Class on their direct flights to-from London is very wise. There is enough legroom to be comfortable. I am not impressed with the recline on the new 777 though, it is not comfortable. It could be comfortable if you bring extra cushions for your lower back, but the style of recline in these 777's is like the Cathay 'shell seat' where the seat moves forward and you are in a 'break-back' posture. I was more comfortable with a slight recline and sleeping with my head hanging forward like a drunk.

I don't think there is any difference with meals and drinks. You will be lucky to get a few glasses of cheap red/white wine, I did not see spirits or beer served at all.

All things considered, I would prefer a stopover in the Middle East and fly with Emirates, Qatar or Etihad in Economy 7 hours then 6 hours and stretch my legs halfway.

  12. Now at Carrefour a DVD - MP3 - USB ( AClass) ThB 690 instead of 829

Sounds good. Today at Tuk Com the cheapest multi-play region was 2,000 baht which I thought was expensive for a crap brand make, made in Thailand.

    Any more suggestions?

  13. Are these cheap DVD players multi-region ie. do they play region 2-4 from the U.K. ?

    Anyone know?

Or I might ask, where is the cheapest place to buy a multi-region DVD player in Pattaya?

    Thanks!

    Hi Syd,

I have owned a couple of cheap dvd players bought here. They will play dvd's from the uk but will often stall when playing cheap copies from the market.

When you bought them did you know they were multi region?

  14. I went to Bake 'n' Brew today because of the recommendations here. It is as good as everyone says. Lovely food, well presented, great servers, very clean. I had the 99 baht brekkie: 2 eggs (fried or scrambled), sausage, bacon, baked beans, mushrooms, 2 toast and marmalade. Plus you get the choice of tea, coffee (freshly brewed as the OP said) or orange juice. I chose the coffee, with an orange juice as an extra. The OJ was delicious, with plenty of pulp, but slightly expensive at 55 baht.

Overall, though, I would highly recommend this place, and no, I have no connection with it whatsoever, just a happy customer.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm always on the lookout for a good English breakfast, so I will be trying this place out this weekend and report back, with photos. Thanks.

  15. The pound is exactly 50=Thai baht now.

I expect over the next few months the pound to get upto 1.6 to the US$ which would equate to Thai baht 51.50 anything better than that, forget it.

Obama is making no effort with the economy, the dollar is dropping, I expect $1.8 to the pound this year, so I stand by my 54 bht prediction.

I hope you are right 1.8 = 1 pound but I can't see it happening unless there is a major USA problem.

  16. If you go to Friendship Supermarket on Pattaya Tai on the lower shelves below the small 50 baht kidney bean tins you will see the huge 2kg catering tins of kidney beans priced at 180 baht.
