  1. Very good info indeed. Thanks for that.

The only question is why the banks do withhold the 15% in the first place, when one is entitled to a refund anyway ??

Probably because its not the banks job to decide if your entitled to a refund !

It is the same in the UK. Tax of 20% is deducted at source by the banks on all interest earned unless you have informed the bank (via an HMRC Form R85) that you are not liable for tax.

  2. What is 'prison food' and who is 'hype'-ing it.

Bye the way. what has A-1 sauce (a very minority brand in the UK) got to do with this thread?

In fact what have your comments got to do with the OP?

'Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 314572800 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 92 bytes) in /home/thaivcom/public_html/forum/admin/sources/base/ipsMember.php on line 2780'

    Can anyone help please.

  4. Seriously how hard is it to ---- up Muesli and Fruit?

That's not even a proper breakfast.

"Seriously how hard is it to ---- up Muesli and Fruit?"

    T.I.T.!

"That's not even a proper breakfast."

    Totally agree.

If that is anyone's idea of a breakfast they might as well stay at home and eat it there. At least they don't need to watch the rest of us enjoying ourselves having whatever we enjoy for whatever reason or price laughing at them!

  5. Wild Boar on Loy Kroh is the best breakfast in the area by a long way.

Your post leaves a lot to the imagination!.

Is this an English, American or Continental breakfast or some new variation of a 'Loy Kroh' 'Take Away' breakfast.

  6. They are still 50 years behind when it comes to card matters. Back in December i had a double charge on my card at Tesco on 108 although the girl insisted that she had only put it through once. I went to customer services who were completely 'out of it' and knew nothing so i asked for a Manager. After 35 minutes waiting around a Female Manager turned up looking annoyed and telling the Mrs she was 'extremely busy'. After ten more minutes of her running around and being very vexed in her approach to other staff she finally agreed that i had been charged twice and said it would take 45 days for me to receive a refund ! I let her know calmly what i thought of the service both at till and management level and then left the store.

Upon return home i sent my card issuer an email explaining what had happened and they gave me an immediate credit for the double charge. I also sent Tesco Thailand an email with a copy to Tesco UK. I had an apologetic reply from England but no response from Thailand (nothing abnormal there then !).

They don't have a clue what they are doing with card transactions and even in the few places like Tops and Home-Pro where they actually use 'chip&pin' they still expect you to sign pieces of paper which is not required.

Of course we will get all those Thai apologists coming on saying it's a cash society and so on but the fact is that Thailand needs to try and remove itself from the late 19th century and move on !

But the fact is, it hasn`t, and Thailand has still to embrace the concept of living in a cashless society, so therefore those living here have a learn to adapt accordingly.

Firstly , I don`t have or want a credit card, for what purpose? I guess the most users are those who are living on strict budgets and need to pay upfront first on their credit cards because they don`t have the cash at hand. Otherwise their first choice would be debit cards not credit cards.

I have debit cards pertaining to all my foreign bank accounts that I keep locked in my safe, or should say; in case of emergency, break glass. Had them for 3 years now never used them yet. I have 1 debit card for only 1 of my Thai savings bank accounts. Again mostly in a case of an emergency or for making purchases online. I only keep 10000 baht balance on my card, so if the worse should happen that`s all I have to lose.

It is extremely easy to draw cash using a Thai bank debit or ATM card from the always available ATM machines located outside the large stores. Just draw the cash and pay by cash for purchases made inside the stores.

The problem is that there are those who plonk themselves in Thailand still expecting that facilities and services is going to be just like things were at home, and then become flummoxed, bewildered and frustrated when it hits them that Thailand hasn`t quite caught up yet and find this difficult to except.

The solutions are simple; learn to adapt and change your methods of doing business and making transactions here. But the main problems for some, is that old habits die hard, the long and suffering moaners and whingers.

You said ; "I have debit cards pertaining to all my foreign bank accounts that I keep locked in my safe, or should say; in case of emergency, break glass. Had them for 3 years now never used them yet"

    Quick word(s) of warning!

If your foreign cards include UK debit cards please be aware that many expire after 3 yrs and that if the UK bank a/c has had no transactions in the last 2 years it will be come "dormant" and will not be accessible without speaking to your UK Bank.

Please also note, as I have said on a number of occasions, that UK and US rules and usage of Debit & Credit cards are very different.

  8. Must be getting desperate and bringing in the big guns..

Not my style....but im sure the familys proud--as long as the baht keeps comin....

I recall a guy i knew put 10 baht coins down the girls undies....havent spoken to him since...

He is probably too busy "coining it in" giggle.gif

  9. Winniethekwai has a lot of photos, of very attractive women, that he claims to have taken on LK Road. Do you suppose that he is sneaking off to Bangkok and taking pictures in an effort to pull our collective legs?

There have been quite a few very decent looking young ladies doing their trade in the happy massages on LK recently, so I'm inclined to believe him.

Is this the correct subject area to be discussing the "pulling of legs" "collective" or not?

I hope it is not a euphemism for "you pull my leg and I'll pull yours"!

  10. I too would love to get answers to the questions you have asked and am really surprised at the total lack of any response.

Where are all these posters with their best prices/best way of getting around?

Can we please have some (reasonable/accurate) answers if anyone has any.

  11. What goes good with smoked salmon? I'm desperate for ideas as I need to eat at home as much as possible for the next three months to try to improve my blood numbers. When I eat out I have no idea what they are putting in the food, and it can't be healthy...

In my travels where smoked salmon is everyday fare, it has been presented for breakfast with scrambled eggs and baked beans (sometimes, just plain tinned pork and beans, heated. Add some fruit and you good for a robust workout.

Would that be a 'closet(WC) workout or a 'Gym' workout?

If the former then no thanks; but if the latter then maybe not so bad!giggle.gif

  12. Thank you for the reminder...both my folks were in that war - Mom enlisted (surgical nurse) - not sure about Dad (ambulance driver) - might have gotten called up.....

The movie "Pearl Harbor" was a good one - well done.....

Glad I have it and enjoy watching it about once a year......

As others have posted here I would suggest that 'Tora Tora Tora' is a much more descriptive action/factional film of the actual events rather than the 'romanticised' 'Pearl Harbor'. 'Tora Tora Tora' being the code word used by the Japanese for the 'attack'.

The Thapae Gate McDonald's is better. tongue.png

    why ?

Just joking. They all taste the same. I don't consider most fast food places to be "good" restaurants, but I can remember when - for Chiang Mai - they were about the best that you could do, for foreign food.

Even with the little ‘smiley’ attached to your ‘joke’ did you really believe that any ‘experienced’ CM TV poster would even start to think you could possibly be joking about any food theme.

Shame on you for leading Asiantravel and the rest of us on like this.

Will we ever trust your ‘food’ posts again. (Yes we will) giggle.gif

  14. I would suggest that there is something basically wrong with your computer unless you are using it out with the manufacturer’s environmental specs.

An external fan is not cooling the inside core heating problem and the internal heat is being added to by using the USB as a power source.

I think you should cure the ailment (what is causing the overheating - it will not be Firefox on its own) than apply a band aid (external fan).

  15. Oh, and get a bike. Or move to town.

Can't move as I'm living where I need to be, but the bike is definitely tempting. Watching 13-14 year old girls and boys texting while riding their motorbike should tell me it isn't as dangerous as it looks...or maybe it's the opposite, I honestly don't know! Maybe in a week when I stop looking left rather than right before crossing the street.

It is much more dangerous than it looks. Just look at the number of 'Farangs' with 'Chiang Mai Rash' That well known medical condition caused by very inexperienced drivers sliding their bare skin along a Chingmai dirt road when they come of their bike.

Do not stop looking left rather than right. That is where the 13-14 year old girls and boys texting while riding their motorbikes (and other idiots - see Chiang Mai rash above) will come from.

Enjoy CM and head chienmaijoe's advice!

  16. I just had to think about why there are only a few people interested in a spacecraft landing on a remote comet way out yonder. I think they are all too busy reading about disgruntled customers causing mayhem in McDonalds.

To what level have we been reduced?

Reading this thinking (in vain) that it might have become interesting!giggle.gif
