Storyville - Fishing for Love: How to Catch a Thai Bride

    Thought this was really interesting.
Available on BBC iplayer or for download on RARBG.

Summary: A Storyville documentary. In a small fishing community on the west coast of Denmark, over 900 Thai women are married to local fishermen. The trend started 25 years ago when Sommai, a former sex worker from north east Thailand, married Niels. She became a matchmaker for lonely Danish locals and impoverished women from her village in Thailand. At first, these stories seem straightforward: white men from a wealthy country marrying Asian women looking for a way out of poverty, but a different, far more complex and surprising tale unfolds in the film.

Over ten years, acclaimed film-maker Janus Metz and film-maker and anthropologist Sine Plambech follow four Thai-Danish couples in an intimate chronicle that explores universal questions of love and romance, while navigating wildly different cultures, and compromises that shift gradually and surprisingly from sacrifice to life choices.

I found this a sad and depressing chronicle of Thai/Farang love, far removed from the couples we know and interact with.

    Thanks for that.

    Any hotels to recommend?

Sorry, we stayed with friends the last time we were there.  Also spent a night in a tent up on a mountain top but can't recall the name of the place.

  3. While it is still cool in the early morning, afternoon temperatures are already in the 30s so expect mid march to be warmer than that.  As for nice scenery, expect the smoke to get worse over the next month or two, until we get some significant rain.  You could still have a nice trip, depending on your expectations and what you plan on doing.

  4. I had no problems with BMW in Chiang Mai over the last 5 years and really enjoyed driving my 320d.  That said, my wife and I decided our driving needs are better suited to an SUV and after test-driving several ended up buying a CX-8.  We have taken it up in the mountains a few times already, to places the BMW couldn't go, and it is really a comfortable ride with more electronic gizmos than I know what to do with.????

I did a search on Apple's site, for Chiang Rai and iPhones, and interestingly that didn't come up. Just two authorised sellers allegedly, both within Big C - Banana and Power Buy.

    https://locate.apple.com/th/en/sales/?pt=3&lat=19.9208663&lon=99.8146235&address=Chiang rai

    iStudio do sell Apple though

So are they an unauthorised Apple re-seller then if Apple don't list them ?

I believe iStudio is an authorized Apple re-seller and is located in the Central Shopping Mall here in Chiangrai, along with other sellers like you mentioned above.  The iStudio shop is a stand alone shop and has a wider selection of Apple products with more knowledgable staff.  I buy all my Apple products from them.

Are there any official Apple stores outside Bangkok ? I don't see any. I'm interested in Chiang Rai in particular.

EDIT: Ah, I think there might be:

Only iStudio in Chiangrai. Sorry for the confusion. There is only one Apple store and Thailand I believe at iconSorry for the confusion. There is only one Apple store in Thailand I believe.

  7. Up here in the north of Thailand you would be surprised how often the GPS lady sends you down the shortest route with no real awareness of the kind of vehicle you’re driving or the conditions of that road. In a car you can easily rectify the situation but in a bus that size you would have a real problem getting yourself out of trouble, being on a narrow road that you didn’t expect to be on. The bus driver had probably never been in that area before
