  1. Although there were injuries to Mr Stewart's face and head, Thai police have stated that they are not treating his death as suspicious.

What they can't be bothered to do a real investigation.... A fairly young man dies with injuries to his face and head, and police find nothing suspicious about it?

The injuries could be nothing but a simple drunken fall, or they could be from some one harming him..... I think the police should do their jobs and at least look into it and rule out the possibility of foul play.

    RIP

I agree that it does seem a little suspicious, but it's hard to feel any sympathy for this guy considering he beats up pensioners. Not exactly the "high quality" person that the Thailand is trying to attract.

I agree he deserves no sympathy, but if foul play did exist, then the perpetraters :o are still at large mmmm!

  2. If at first you don't succeed etc etc.

Thought I would add my experience here as I now have a good bore supplying our needs.

Last year we had a local driller come in for a "no water = no cost deal, he was very confident of finding good water at a fairly shallow depth, we are in a river valley. Everything was fine for 10 metres or so then he hit granite, that granite went for 50 metres until he ran out of drill string. They worked pretty hard for no real result and I would have paid for fuel but they pulled the PVC casing and scurried off in the night never to be seen again.

We decided to try again this year as the village supply is next to non existent now and the gardens are suffering etc. We engaged a bigger drill rig also on a no water = no pay deal, the contractor picked the spot to drill and away they went. It wqs exactly the same scenario as the first attempt, 15 metres of clay then granite for 40 metres until they also pulled up casing and started to pack up.

I offered to pay 5000 baht for fuel and time so far if they had another go further down the block.

They spent a lot of time water divining and picking the next spot and started again. This time they hit shallow water, 10 - 15 metres I think, they pushed on and then a lot of small river pebbles started to come up with the drill returns ( an old river bed I am thinking) the pebble returns lasted for a couple of metres then hit granite and stopped. total depth about 40 metres.

He supplied a 1 HP Franklin / Shaefer submersible pump for 14000 baht (later seen for 11800 baht :o ) and we pumped for 8 hrs at 4000 - 4500 litres per hour with loss of volume or pressure. I was very happy. The water was a bit murky for the first couple of hours of pumping but gradually cleared up. It tastes good and doesn't smell so that's a bonus.

I now pump that into a 1500 litre header tank which gravity feeds through a charcoal filter into our 20,000 litre storage tank. An on-demand Hitachi pressure pump then draws on this tank for domestic use.

    Cost of drilling : 35,000

PVC, Electrical cabling , pump ,valves etc: 22,000

    Incentive: 5000

    As a footnote:

I was reluctant to draw power from our domestic supply as we only have a 15 amp supply as it is. The wife arranged another 15 amp supply from the power mob which was connected yesterday for 6000 baht, this included the meter deposit

(2000 baht) The same deal you get for temp power when building a house. In this case we told them we needed it for water to farm a few acres.

Just a final comment, When we were trial pumping the builder who is building a small shop for us came and said "water finished' I groaned and my heart sunk until he explained it was our domestic storage tank....no problem fill it up from the bore..talk about timing :D:D:D

I live about 30 kms from Chum Phae, Khon Kaen. Does anybody know where I can get water tested just to see what I have got?

    Khun Andy

OK nuff of this i'm bored. lol :D

  3. Incidentally, as I'm sure you all know, the Yellow Shirts want to remove the vote from the individual and instead bestow the responsibility onto 'appointed experts'.

Come on, give me a break.

The airports being closed is utter <deleted> and plainly demonstrates to the rest of the sane planet either how little the PAD cares for it's country or monarchy's international image or more likely, how stupid and short sighted they really are. PAD as a flash in the pan and it is simply a matter of time before they get a severe kicking.

You should have stopped before this, instead you've gone on to confuse and distort the facts and blame the PAD for everything. By the I mean you seem to have missed the part where the government should have done their jobs and resolved this issue months ago before it exploded into the situation we have now.

I don't agree with the PAD however I know they don't want to remove people's votes this is a lie often reported by their opponents.

Also, yesterday it was reported that the PAD had broken into the control tower at Suvarnabhumi. Turns out to be wrong, they've only ever been in the terminal building.

How come your an advanced member after so few posts? :o

  4. Without reading all the replies:

Sometimes they slip drugs into those free cokes.

Also, if you put your laptop, game, wallet, etc under the bus or ANYWHERE where you can't feel it being taken from you, well then you deserve what happens to you. Travel safe and use common sense.

I disagree, don't get me wrong, I would never condone what these low life thieves have done, but, if they want something bad enough they will get it anyway and if you happen to be one of the many people who are not confident enough to stand up to these people, then I would argue, its better to lose your laptop than your hand, arm, eyes or maybe even your life. I don't know why nobody woke up but perhaps it was a blessing in disguise. Someone recently walked into my apartment and while I dozed on the armchair he casually walked out with a laptop, taken from 12 inches away from me, if I had woken I dont know how badly I would have beaten him, but if my wife had walked back in the room, what might he have done to her?

I personally believe that as long as we continue to give soft punishment there will always be plenty of crooks to fill the niche. We have to learn to make them regret their actions, only then will they realise that STEAL & MURDER = MUCH PAIN & SUFFERING & MAYBE DEATH. Oops I'm starting to go on a bit and my blood pressure is rising. :o

  5. Perhaps instead of a gun, why not find a protection dog?

The dog is a deterrent, an alarm, a friend, a protector and works even when no one's home.

Just requires food and love and might just warm your heart a little.

    Much better than a gun.

Great idea, and then if they hurt the dog................then you buy a gun and shoot them

  6. Here here,

Get rid of the scum !!!

how do you define scum old chap?

Are people who sell alcohol to others in the same boat?

Is hilltribe farmer who knows know better way to feed his family, scum?

Are the legal fag dealers, the ones who target kids, scum?

Yours is the typical base reaction,

You simply cannot class everyone the same way. I might call people who makes simple spelling errors moron,s.

    Uneducated, low class fools.

But they,ve probably suffered something in life to prevent them from getting it right.

By the way, you should of been ' hear, hear.

    See, we all makes mistakes.

You should check your own spelling (You simply cannot class everyone the same way. I might call people who makes simple spelling errors moron,s.)

"is a hilltribe farmer who knows NO better......................................... :o

Manchester City's billionaire owner Thaksin Shinawatra is changing the club's crest... to remind him of home in Thailand.

It means City's golden eagle could be replaced by an elephant or even a mythical half-bird half-human garuda, which are both national symbols in Thailand.

"No one can believe that a chairman can just come in and change our badge," said a Man City source. "What about the club's tradition? The fans aren't going to like this one bit. Just because somebody owns the club does not give them the right to come in and change everything."

Yet Shinawatra, Thailand's former prime minister, believes he can do whatever he wants after buying the club for £82million and giving new manager Mark Hughes a £200m transfer chest to match the success of bitter rivals Manchester United.

Designers have already been drafted in to work on the new crest by Shinawatra, who is now living in exile in Britain after being ousted in a military coup two years ago.

The current eagle design comes from the official badge of the City of Manchester, while the three diagonal stripes signify Manchester's three rivers - the Medlock, Irwell and the Irk. But the three stars which also make up the design are purely decorative.

Shinawatra, 58, who's known as Frank in Manchester, believes a new Orientalstyle club crest will make Manchester City more popular in Thailand where there is a huge market in Premiership club shirts.

He is determined to make City one of England's big four clubs and has the money to do it, even though £1billion of his assets are frozen in Thailand. He enjoys a flamboyant lifestyle in the UK with a five-bedroom, £4.5million mansion in Weybridge, Surrey, and he also has a apartment in London, where he answers to the title "Your Excellency".

As well as football, his favourite activities include golf and karaoke, performing with Sarunrat Visutthithada, known as Lydia, queen of Thai R&B.

The club source added: "Who knows what the badge will be in the end, but if it's reflecting Shinawatra it could be a Thai man dressed in golf gear singing karaoke. It's ridiculous."

I agree, people will not be happy about it, but if he owns it outright, surely he is entitled to make those changes if he wishes. :o

  8. Explosion at an NGV gas station injures a man in Samut Prakarn

SAMUT PRAKARN: -- A public bus was damaged from an explosion when it was refilling NGV gas at a gas station in Samut Prakarn province, injuring a gas station boy on Friday.

The explosion shattered window glasses of nearby vehicles lining up for their turns at the station.

Police said it was lucky that there was no passengers on the bus.

Initial investigation showed that the blast happened after the refilling of gas was nearly finished.

A station staff was about to remove the gas pipe from the vehicle when the explosion happened. The staff suffered from wounds at his legs.

Police said the bus operator has not yet obtained permission from the provincial authorities to operate the bus equipped with NGS gas tanks.

Sounds like a tragic accident, hope the boy recovers fast, must have been terrifying for all who witnessed it. :o

  9. What's even worse is the "holier than thou" farangs who take some Thai classes and then all of a sudden any one who doesn't speak Thai is the scum of the earth...telling someone else what they should or shouldn't do with their life is, IMHO, ruder than not speaking Thai.

I agree, everyone to their own, freedom of choice etc, I personally intend to learn the lingo but will not think less of those who choose not to,

  10. so i understand that there are obvious benefits to becoming fluent in Thai my question though is do you think it is rude to Thai people if you stay here long term without learning to speak Thai fluently? I think it would be embarrasing to meet your child's teachers and tell them you have lived here X years while not speaking fluent Thai.

I have a hard time making time to learn Thai. For awhile I had it in my IPOD, but then I realized Id much rather listen to music. I would not call it an enjoyable hobby. Yeah, I was thrilled when I went from noob to intermediate, but going from intermediate to fluent seems to have very limited benefits besides face/bragging rights.

For those who have been here many years without speaking fluently, are you embarrassed about it? Is your wife embarrassed about it?

I so want to speak the lingo, but not sure if i can take it all in :o

  11. I think that tourism in Thailand may change over the next few years, but it will not come to a halt. Perhaps less less riff-raff and more family holidays. Perhaps new riff-raff from countries who haven't in the past produced large amounts of visitors to Thailand. I think increases in aviation fuel will cull a lot of the no-necks.

You'll have lots of high brow sorts such as yourself to debate why the no-necks shouldnt be allowed to breathe the same air as the educated chattering classes. Should be a hoot doesnt one think.

Single blokes will always have money for holidays, families have other priorities.

Correct! Last time I flew to Thai with my wife the aircraft was predominantly single males heading directly to Pattaya and practising their sawasdees with the air hostesses, lol if only i were 20 again ha ha

  12. strange. Each time we've flown, the infant under 2 has flown free, except of course for the tax, which to Australia/NZ is in the vicintiy of 7000 baht. Not sticking up for Thai in any way of course, as it isn't the best airline about. Even though I'm a gold member I'm thinking of SQ next time we go back to OZ...

    Disgusting treatment

  13. Hi everyone,

We are planning a trip to Thailand this september and early October with our 8 month old.

    1. What is the weather like? (is it the rainy season this time of year? Are certain parts of Thailand better than others during this period?)

    2. What beaches and luxury hotels/spas would you recommend? (e.g. on Koh Samui or otherwise?)

    3. What other advice for travelling with a baby in Thailand? (What to bring, hotels with babysitters or just babysitters, etc)

    Thanks.

One piece of advice - postpone the trip until your child gets older.

ere ere stupidest thing i ever heard of

Could you not leave the child at home with mom/dad or maybe wait a few years for your trip, make sure of air con if you do come with little one :o

  15. I'm going to be travelling around Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia from December-March. I'll really want to see my team, Hull City, on TV whenever I can. What are my chances in each of these countries? Are the games shown live (ie. UK afternoon = Asia middle of the night) or in full on a delay (so the whole 90 minutes is shown, just not live so it's on at a reasonable time!)? Or both? Will it just be when we're playing against Man United and Chelsea that we're on TV, or are a range of games shown? What kind of places will show games on big screen TV's? Bars? Sports bars? Hotels?

    Thanks,

    Andy - Tiger on Tour

Great chance mate, keep your eye on ESPN, easy to watch, not so next year though when they are back in the championship, although I wish them well, best luck from K u H :o
