  1. I'm in England at the moment and I just saw a clip on the Sky News channel, it sounds like the same clip as this one. There were guys stamping on someone on the floor and at least one who was trying to get through the mob who was holding a slab of concrete about 1.5x1 foot and 4 or 5 inches thick, it was obvious he was attempting to use it on the guy who was being beaten on the ground.

Also the British Ambassador said that British people might want to reconsider their travel plans if they are going to Bangkok, I can't remember exactly what he said but it didn't sound encouraging.

  2. It was comical as if the elephant had seen the rozzers and decided to make a run for it... :o

This is funny with a small elephant, it's a bit more concerning when you have a fully grown adult elephant 'doing a runner' down Soi Cowboy when it's busy.

  3. Have other poeple had the same experience? and if so what is the best way to react?

Not me, I normally wave them off before it gets to that, if they touched me though I would brush them off. If he dug his fingers into me then I would feel quite within my rights to flatten him.

The best way to react, if someone assaults you - put them on the ground. I think you figured that out already.

Just make sure you don't accidentally kill someone, that's the hard part.

  4. We had the same problem. We bought a fridge (I believe SHARP) the door can open on both side. You don't need to change anything, there is a handle on both side and you can open from the left or the right. I'm not in Bangkok so I can't give you the exact model but it does exist.

A friend of mine had one of these a few years back, from what I remember they are not cheap, there are no hinges, there's some kind of release mechanism at the top/bottom of the door on both sides which allows the door to open from either side, I think it swings open on a bearing at the bottom instead of a hinge at the side. I was impressed by the design.

  5. Tell him everything, you have nothing to lose. He probably won't believe you and if he was a good friend h would likely avoid you but as he's not a good friend I'd give him a heads up anyway. At least this way even if he doesn't believe you he might start to notice some warning signs in the future.

  6. From what I've heard it's pretty cheap in Lima, Peru. This is on my list of places to check out at some point in the future. Overstaying isn't a problem, I think there is a $1 a day fine and you can stay as long as you like, it was either three or six month stamp on arrival and they don't care how long you stay.

There's a forum very similar to Thaivisa for Peru as well, http://forum.livinginperu.com it looks suspiciously similar.
