  1. Watched it on BBC news and the impression my wife(Thai) and I got was she was calling for the Govt to 'get out'. Sent from my GT-I9003 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I watched it and I thought they were chanting to get out, get out to indicate Yingluck get out.

Of course they are, it's an anti government protest. They want the Government to 'get out' - not some reporter who they've never seen nor heard of before.

This thread is merely a diversion from the real issue.

  2. You don't need to go anywhere near downtown Bangkok where the protests are being held.

You can get a taxi directly from the Airport to Hua Hin or one of the new luxury buses which also go straight to Hua Hin from the Airport. I would recommend taking the taxi.

I'm in Hua Hin right now, nothing's going on here, it's business as usual from what I can see.I was in Bangkok a few days ago before the new protests popped up along the Sukhumvit / Victory monument area but that was the middle of last week and things appear to have been stepped up since then.

This is what I would do :

You can leave the airport and head for Highway 9 (Bangkok Eastern Outer Ring Road - Toll Road) which leads to Highway 35 (Rama 2 Road) - from there you head West past Samut Sakhon (you're already well clear of Bangkok at this stage) and further on past Samut Songkhram all the way to the Phetkasem road where you turn left - then you continue on the same road until you get to Hua Hin avoiding going anywhere near downtown Bangkok at all.

  3. For those who are into bitcoin or want to learn more, this is a great primer on it http://t.co/zGjwyUl3WD It's very long and a lot of annoying sounds of dinner in the background but this guy does a great job.

For those who consider bitcoin the second coming of tulips, don't bother.

no experienced investor would call it "second coming of tulips". more likely that he calls Bitcoins "392nd coming of tulips".

I don't know what the situation was back in the 'Tulip mania' era but we do know for sure that Tulips alone are still a billion dollar a year industry today....

  4. I got a one year driving license in Cha Am yesterday. I didn't fill out any forms, they did that for me when I was there.

You just need copies of your old driving license (front and back), passport ID page, entrance form which is attached to your passport, entrance stamp and current visa.

I believe it has to ba a non immigrant visa so a tourist visa won't allow you to get a driving license.

  5. I saw a minibus driver waiting outside Hua Hin immigration for is customers who must have been inside last week, he was smoking one of these electronic cigarettes.

He said he'd tried to give up smoking many times before but always failed, now he's swapped over to these and they work just fine.

He was a Thai guy in his late 50's to 60's by the looks of it.

They're catching on so much that even Phillip Morris, the last of the 'hold outs' in big tobacco has announced that they will be producing a line of electronic cigarettes. Until only a few months ago they were releasing statements against electronic cigarettes.

You can't get much bigger than Phillip Morris and they would not have acted in this way unless they felt they had to. They can see this massive change looming on the horizon and they want their cut.

  6. You are asking predominently White caucasian people what Asians think of Thais ?

Why not ask what Africans think of Eskimos ! ?........wierd man......sorry

Exactly right. We get that a lot on this forum. And you can bet your right nut that some bozo will provide the answer (negative, of course) without having the slightest clue.

If you look at the link I posted it tells you what other Asians think of Thai's including a snippet from a Thai newspaper on the recent discussion.

  7. Serious question. (I don't have any bitcoins!)

If you have bitcoins and you used something like btc-e to buy and sell coins. How would that in practice go.

Say that you bought bitcoins for $800 and the moment it hit $1200 you want to get USD's again.

How much time goes by, and do you sell 'at that moment' or is the trade being 'worked on'.

How long does it take to settle, who takes the risk when the prices fluctuates?

Heard stories that it sometimes takes days, even weeks to settle a buy/sale.

It's instant. The USD gets credited to your account immediately and without any kind of delay.

You can then buy another listed 'coin', wait for the price to fall and rebuy or make a withdrawal to your bank account via a SWIFT transaction.

I had them wire me $10k earlier in the year and it arrived in my Kasikorn account about 3 working days later.

EDIT : Of course you can only sell if there are orders at your sell price othewise it will stay on the order book until the correct price is reached for the amount of coins you're selling

  8. Also, assuming you believe all the hype about bitcoin being the only real crypto then why are all the minor coins rising along with Bitcoin? you can't have it both ways.

A good point. The alts I purchased for a few cents each only a couple of months ago are now selling for more than $2 (nearly $3) worth of Yuan on a chinese exchange.

I'm using the Yuan to buy Bitcoin and move it elsewhere.....

I only need the Bitcoin to facilitate the transfer of funds between exchanges. The actual price of Bitcoin doesn't matter.
