1. The moral of the tragedy is the Thai authorities/immigration/police should not allow lunatic scum to be in Thailand.

Excellent idea, all we need now is an acurate way of predicting who out of the billions of people in the world will turn into a 'lunatic scum' before they actually do anything wrong.

Do you have a plan or is this just mindless waffle ?

  2. I don't like these elephants, I find them annoying at best. I don't like it when they come anywhere near me.

The last thing I need is some great lumbering dinosaur chasing me down Sukhumvit while I'm half drunk. Someone told me he saw a full sized adult elephant do a runner down Soi Cowboy a few years ago.

I remember sitting outside a bar smoking a cigarette and an elephant was manouvered into the parking space just in front of me only for it to crap all over the road a few feet away from where I was enjoying my beer and cigarette. The jockey got down, collected the crap and put it into a plastic carrier bag and took it with him, very strange behaviour.

  3.
Are you farang?
If yes, then you should know that there are signs in Europe and foreign tourists are supposed to comply.
In Jakarta, I use to walking across the street even if there is no zebra cross nor traffic light, may I argue a London (please change "London" to any capital city of your country) policeman, who catch me walking across the street?
It's not illegal to walk across the street in London, we do it all the time, we are still allowed to think for ouselves for some things.

  4. I have purchased some land over the last 5 odd years in pattaya and I have also had deals. Also up in Isaarn where I have made a few quid quickly. Not millions of GBP but enough to put a smile omn my face!

That's amazing, can you explain how you can buy and sell land in Thailand ? I'd like to do this myself.

I was under the impression that foreigners aren't allowed to buy land and the only way to do it would be to get a Thai who you trust to act on your behalf, therein lies the problem.

  5. BANGKOK (AFP) -- Tourists in Bangkok are being warned not to buy food for street elephants or risk a 10,000 baht (310 dollars) fine in the latest clampdown on begging by owners of the animals.

    <snip>

If caught, the mahouts face a 10,000 baht fine and six months in jail.

So does this law cover both the tourists and the mahouts or just the mahouts ? It's not entirely clear to me especially as it mentions a clampdown on the owners of the animals.

I suspect something's got lost in the translation here as the fine is the same for owning an elephant as it is for simply feeding the large smelly beasts.

  6. i wish he did it on my flight... i would knock him out cold

    WITH PLEASURE

nobody fcuks with an airplane that i'm on !! unless he does it over my dead body...

sorry i overreact but touching the doors in flight is just discusting and i would kill him ph34r.gif

Haha, very good. Of course when you ultimately arrived at your destination they'd lock you up for 20-30 years for the safety of the rest of us.

  7. Did you know that (in Canada at least) that if I hire a roofer to shingle the roof and he gives me a total price inclusive of materials and I pay him for the job when finished but he never pays the shingle supplier for the shingles, who is on the hook for the bill? Yes, you guessed it, me........

I guess it comes down to who owns the goods in question and do they have the right to sell them. It's the same thing with cars in the UK, if someone sells a car which is on a hire purchase agreement the HP company will reposess it unless the loan is paid off in full - this happens all the time - people buy a used car only to find out that original seller didn't have the right to sell it, then they lose it altogether with no refund.

  8. Click here

Pay particular attention to Item 5.

This is an interesting link. I guess the deifference here is the sale of the house so long as there is no 'Right of Superficies' registered in the foreigners name then you will be in the clear.

It would seem that the guy who bulldozed his house either had one of these superficies in his name or his girlfriend didn't act quickly enough to sell the house without the superficies transferring ownership in the process before he demolished it. Maybe this is why she wants a quick sale.

This will be one angry foreigner if it is the case. However so long as there is no superficies then you would appear to have the right to screw him out of his property. Personally I wouldn't do this as I know that people tend to get irrational if you appear to con them out of their property. This is one of the reasons why people end up floating face down in the river.

  9. What was the earth's population 10 000 years ago? How many factories existed 10 000 years ago? What natural resources were being ripped from the earth & burnt at a colossal rate 10 000 years ago?

How has the earth's natural tilt changed in the past 10 000 years? I'm sure there are more things to compare.

I see, now I understand the cycles of hot / cold weather for the last 4500 millennia. Factories built in the last 200 years. :whistling:

  10. My TOT phone number is in my name in Bangkok. I didn't go to the office myself, I sent a messenger with photocopies of my passport. They installed the phone line and internet without even meeting me.
